Which gun is best up close?
The Gnasher is the clearest close-range choice. In Danielle Partis’s Xbox Wire article, The Coalition describes it as “the close-range king”; GamesRadar+’s campaign review-in-progress also reports that it is devastating when fired close without aiming. Those are qualitative role descriptions, not published damage or time-to-kill measurements.

For Horde Siege, the Breacher class is built around close-range damage, according to The Coalition’s official multiplayer overview. That describes the class’s role rather than establishing a universal best weapon for every close-range fight.

What is the best long-range weapon?
The Longshot is the strongest-supported pick for deliberate precision at distance. Xbox Wire says it “still rewards patience and precision at distance.” PC Gamer’s preview contrasts it with the Breechshot, noting the Longshot’s scope and headshot potential.

That makes the Longshot a better fit when you can take time to line up a shot. It is not a claim that it wins every encounter: enemy combinations, positioning and the space available all affect weapon choice. Xbox Wire describes E-Day combat as a “combat puzzle” of enemy combinations, tactical weapon choices and reading the battlefield.
Is the Breechshot better than the Longshot?
They serve different ranged roles. PC Gamer describes the Breechshot as a hard-hitting bolt-action rifle that can be considered over a Lancer, but says it lacks the Longshot’s scope and headshot potential. Choose it when you want a forceful bolt-action option; choose the Longshot when scoped precision is the priority.

How campaign modifications change weapon choices
Campaign upgrades can alter how a weapon works, so a weapon’s basic role is not the whole story. TechRadar reports a full-auto Gnasher modification and an upgrade that replenishes shells while the weapon is stowed. GamesRadar+’s reviewer reports that Gnasher slug rounds can extend its usefulness to several meters; the same reviewer describes a Longshot modification that swaps its scope for an over-the-shoulder reticle and another that reloads its chamber after headshots. These are campaign observations, not universal competitive recommendations.
Campaign also has specialist weapons rather than simple substitutes for the Gnasher-versus-Longshot choice. Xbox Wire describes the Gut Puncher as a grenade launcher firing armor-piercing explosive rounds with player-controlled detonation, and the Incinerator as an Imulsion-fueled shotgun. They address particular situations; the available descriptions do not establish them as better choices for ordinary close- or long-range combat.

Do campaign weapon mods work in Versus?
No. The Coalition’s Versus overview says matches begin with equal weapon and equipment loadouts and have no weapon mods. That means campaign upgrade advice should not be carried over to Versus. In that mode, make your choice around the match and your own ability with the weapon rather than campaign progression.
