Use the settings below as a conservative starting point, then adjust sensitivity and deadzones to suit your aim and controller. The figures are recommendations from published guides, not independently tested or guaranteed to improve performance.
Start with these Black Ops 7 controller settings
A July 11, 2026 uSync guide recommends this baseline. Set the options in the controller and aim menus, then refine them in a private match before taking them into ranked play.
| Setting | Starting point | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Horizontal and vertical sensitivity | 1.00–1.05 | Begin here if you want controlled turns; adjust both in small steps if your aim repeatedly stops short or overshoots. |
| ADS sensitivity multiplier | 0.90–1.00 | Change this separately if hip-fire movement feels comfortable but aiming down sights feels too fast or slow. |
| Target Aim Assist and ADS Aim Assist | On | These are the guide’s recommended starting toggles. |
| ADS behavior | Hold | Choose this if you prefer to aim only while holding the button; other behavior is a comfort preference. |
| Left and right stick minimum deadzone | 5 each | Raise a stick’s value one point at a time if the character moves or the camera drifts while you leave the stick untouched. |
| Stick maximum values | 99 | The uSync guide recommends this value for both sticks. |
| Trigger deadzones | 0–3 | Use the low end only if your triggers register reliably and do not activate unintentionally. |
| Field of view (FOV) | 100–105 | A practical middle ground to try; wider views show more surroundings but make targets appear smaller. |
These numbers come from one guide, and other published recommendations differ substantially. Treat them as a repeatable baseline rather than a universal optimum.
How to tune sensitivity and deadzones
Change sensitivity in small steps
- Play a private match with the baseline sensitivity and observe whether you consistently stop short of targets or swing past them.
- If you stop short, increase sensitivity by 0.05. If you overshoot, decrease it by 0.05, following the uSync guide’s adjustment method.
- Change the ADS multiplier on its own if hip-fire turning feels right but aiming down sights does not. Avoid changing both values at once, so you can tell which adjustment helped.
Keep deadzones as low as your controller allows
A low minimum deadzone makes a stick respond to smaller movements, but a stick that drifts when untouched can move your aim or character unexpectedly. Start at 5 for each stick, then raise only the one that drifts, one point at a time. There is no reason to increase both if only one stick needs it.

- Compatible with Windows and Android.
- 1000Hz Polling Rate (for 2.4G and wired connection)
- Hall Effect joysticks and Hall triggers. Wear-resistant metal joystick rings.
- Extra R4/L4 bumpers. Custom button mapping without using software. Turbo function.
- Refined bumpers and D-pad. Light but tactile.
Choose a layout that suits how you move
Controller layout is about where movement inputs feel natural and whether you can keep your aiming thumb on the right stick during an action.
- Tactical: Moves crouch and slide to the right stick, letting you use those actions without lifting your aiming thumb. Try it if that arrangement feels comfortable.
- Default with back buttons or paddles: Keep the familiar Default layout and map movement actions to the rear controls, if your controller has them. This is an alternative, not a requirement to buy a different controller; check platform compatibility for any specific model.
- Default Flipped: Consider this if you prefer firing with the bumpers. It is a control preference, not a guaranteed competitive advantage.
Balance FOV and ADS transition for visibility and control
FOV: peripheral view versus target size
A wider FOV shows more of the surroundings, but targets occupy less of the screen. The uSync guide recommends 100–105, while Beebom recommends 105 and says 100–110 may work for many players. These are guide suggestions, not a tested ideal for every display or viewing distance. If distant targets are hard for you to see, try a narrower value; if peripheral awareness matters more, test a wider one without assuming the maximum is best.

- PRECISION PERFORMANCE — Stay on target with a hybrid D-pad and textured grips on triggers, bumpers, and back case for improved accuracy and handling.
- SHARE BUTTON: Seamlessly capture and share content such as screenshots, recordings, and more with the new Share button.
- VERSATILE CONNECTIVITY — Connect via USB-C for plug-and-play on console and PC, or quickly pair and switch between supported devices with XBOX Wireless and Bluetooth support.
- BUILT-IN AUDIO SUPPORT — Plug in compatible headsets using the 3.5mm audio jack for direct voice chat and immersive in-game sound.
ADS transition: instant versus gradual
Published recommendations disagree: Beebom recommends a Gradual ADS transition, while SCUF recommends Instant. The guides also differ in sensitivity and other options, so there is no supported basis here for declaring one transition best. Try each available option in a private match and keep the one whose change into aiming down sights feels more controllable to you.
What Black Ops 7’s aim-assist notes say
In its November 2025 preseason patch notes, Activision said it adjusted rotational aim assist at short and long ranges after the beta, and added a right-stick tracking requirement for full rotational strength. Its exact explanation was: “With this update, the player’s right stick movement must be tracking an enemy target for Rotational Aim Assist to activate at full strength.”

- Multi-Platform PC Gaming Controller: Working with Switch, PC, Android, and iOS devices via Bluetooth, wired, and wireless dongle connections.
- Hall Effect Joysticks: Delivering enhanced recentering performance for smoother control and superior anti-drift capability. Plus, with anti-friction rings.
- 2-Way Trigger Lock: With trigger stops, gamers can toggle between short and long pull positions. Additionally, gamers can activate hair trigger mode by pressing M+LT/RT (triggers must be in the long pull position).
- 1000Hz Polling Rate: This ensures that your inputs are registered almost instantaneously, minimizing lag and maximizing your performance during competitive play.
- Mechanical Circular D-pad: Designed for quick reactions and accuracy in every direction, this D-pad elevates your gaming experience with superior responsiveness.
Activision also said its observations found similarly skilled controller players slightly favored at close range, while keyboard-and-mouse players were favored at long range. That is the studio’s stated analysis, not an independently audited statistic. The practical point is that aim assist is not a substitute for keeping the right stick tracking a target.

Activision’s November 20, 2025 accessibility article describes optional Advanced Motion Control HUD anchors: a horizontal line, dot grid, border, or vignette, with adjustable appearance. It also lists Low Motor Strain and visual settings among returning options. These are comfort and accessibility tools, rather than aim settings; consider them if motion or visual effects make play less comfortable.
