A useful crosshair is easy for you to see, keeps the center uncluttered, and behaves the way you want while moving and firing. Start with the current in-game settings: Valve changed crosshair sizing to pixels in September 2026, so older instructions and share codes may not match what you see now.
What is the best crosshair for CS2?
The best crosshair is a personal starting point, not a guaranteed competitive advantage. For a straightforward baseline, the independent Counter-Strike 2 Wiki settings guide suggests a medium, classic green crosshair. Its example uses style 0, size 3, thickness 2, gap −1, and color 5 with green RGB values. Treat those numbers as that guide’s suggestion—not a Valve preset or a proven optimal setup—and check how they look at your resolution in the current game.
When choosing a crosshair, consider four things: whether it stays static or reacts to movement and firing; whether its shape and center are easy to read; whether its color stands out against the maps you play; and whether its size, gap, and thickness remain comfortable at your resolution. No particular color or shape is established as best for every player.
Best CS2 crosshair settings: what should you adjust?
Behavior: static or dynamic
A static crosshair stays steady as you move, giving you an unchanging aiming reference. A dynamic crosshair moves or expands to show movement or firing feedback. Choose based on whether you prefer a stable reference or visual feedback; neither option is a universal improvement.

Shape and center clutter
Consider whether you prefer a dot, lines, a square, or one of CS2’s newer styles. A central dot can make the center visually prominent, while lines provide an aiming frame. Keep the center readable for your preference rather than adding detail without a reason. Valve’s September 30, 2026 update added a Static Quadrant style and support for negative gaps with the classic dynamic style.
Color and outline
Pick a color that remains visible against the backgrounds you encounter. If a color blends into a map, try another or use an outline. Valve’s September 30, 2026 update added outline color options. Visibility is personal, so check your choice in actual matches rather than relying only on a menu preview.

Size, thickness, and gap
Valve changed how crosshair thickness and length are measured in its September 23, 2026 update: both use pixels. Valve’s examples include a 1-pixel thickness, 8-pixel length, and 4-pixel gap, entered as those values. These are examples of the new units, not recommended settings.
The pixel values rescale when you change resolution to preserve proportional appearance. Valve’s example is a 2-pixel thickness at 1280×720 becoming 4 pixels at 2560×1440. If you switch resolutions, check the crosshair again instead of assuming the same numeric value will look identical.

How do I import a CS2 crosshair code?
Share codes are a convenient way to load someone else’s setup, but they are snapshots, not timeless recommendations. Valve changed the share-code format in September 2026 to include additional settings. The CS2 Settings pro-code compilation reflects sources through June 2026, so its codes predate that change; players may also change their settings. Verify a code in the current game before relying on it.
- Open Counter-Strike 2 and go to the in-game crosshair settings.
- Use the share-code import option and enter or paste the code you want to try.
- Inspect the resulting crosshair in the current settings screen. Confirm its style, color, outline, size, thickness, and gap rather than assuming an older code reflects every current option.
- Test it in play. If it is hard to see or feels too large or cluttered, adjust the relevant setting in-game.
If an older code does not import as expected or produces a different-looking crosshair, the format change is a reason to check the code’s age and edit the settings manually. The game’s built-in controls are sufficient; a separate tool is not required.

How should you test and refine a crosshair?
- Open the in-game crosshair settings and choose a simple style and a clearly visible color.
- Settle on static or dynamic behavior according to whether you want a steady aiming reference or movement and firing feedback.
- Adjust one parameter at a time—such as size, thickness, or gap—so you can tell what changed.
- Check the crosshair against different map backgrounds and during actual play, not only in the settings menu.
- Keep the settings that remain readable and comfortable for you; revisit them if you change display resolution.
Console commands are an alternative for players who want precise manual control, but command syntax published in secondary guides may not reflect the September 2026 changes. The current in-game settings are the clearer place to make and verify adjustments.

Valve’s Counter-Strike 2 update notes document several changes relevant to older guides. On September 23, 2026, Valve introduced pixel units for thickness and length and said the system automatically rescales pixel counts when display resolution changes. On September 30, it added outline color, Static Quadrant, negative gaps for the classic dynamic style, and a changed share-code format with additional settings. The October 2 notes include a fix for grenade crosshair rendering at 3-pixel thickness.
