Choose by what you want to improve

Place objects with fewer restrictions: Place Everywhere
Place Everywhere is the focused choice if settlement objects keep refusing to fit where you want them. It relaxes placement restrictions, gives you more control over snapping, and makes many normally scrap-only objects selectable and movable. It is a placement utility, not a new crafting catalogue or production overhaul.

The Nexus page lists version 1.22.1.1240, updated 22 August 2026, and requires Fallout 4 Script Extender (F4SE). The page identifies a file for Fallout 4 1.11.240, so select an archive that matches your installed game version rather than assuming that file works with every build. The author also notes that allowing water placement can remove water-placement requirements from objects that depend on water.
Strengthen the workshop foundation: Workshop Framework
Workshop Framework adds settlement-system utilities and provides a foundation that other mods can build on. Its listed features include faster, more stable workshop scripts, settlement import and export, and extra options through MCM or a holotape. It is a framework and utility layer, not a standalone visual crafting expansion.

The Nexus listing shows version 2.6.1, updated 2 October 2026. Its compatibility instructions distinguish between game builds: the page says version 2.4.0 added next-generation update support, while players on the pre-next-generation build are directed to install the Old-Gen Replacers file and let it overwrite the base files. Because mods that change the same workshop scripts may conflict, review the page, your full mod list, and its load-order guidance, including the instructions for users of the Unofficial Patch.
Get more workshop-mode tools: Workshop Plus
Workshop Plus is for players who already enjoy building and want more control over the process. Its listed tools include free movement, autosave, undo and redo, cloning, layers, blueprints, and an optional free-build mode. These features change how you work in workshop mode; they are not a factory-production pack or the story-driven settlement overhaul offered by Sim Settlements 2.

The page lists version 1.0.15a, updated 5 April 2024. Workshop Plus requires Workshop Framework, and some features require Mod Configuration Menu (MCM); the author recommends MCM for the hotkey system. Check the mod page against your current game and mod setup. One specific limitation: undoing the movement of a wired object does not restore the wire’s position, so reconnect wiring if needed.
Add factory crafting: Manufacturing Extended
If “crafting” means machines that produce equipment or process resources, Manufacturing Extended is the direct fit. It expands the manufacturing devices from the Contraptions Workshop DLC. Its described options include selecting armor parts to build, manufacturing Vault jumpsuits and energy-weapon ammunition, and extracting components from workshop inventory.

The page also describes an outfit loom, a power armor forge, melee and fist weapon forges, a distillery, an auto-butcher, and a robot disassembler. Contraptions Workshop is required. This is a production-focused choice, not a fix for tight placement limits or a better set of workshop-mode controls. A 2025 PC Gamer roundup also lists it in the settlement-and-crafting category and notes the DLC requirement.
Overhaul settlement gameplay: Sim Settlements 2
Sim Settlements 2 is the broadest option here: choose it if you want deeper settlement gameplay and story content, rather than a small building convenience. Its Nexus description highlights its settlement gameplay and improved HUD interface. Because it changes the settlement experience much more extensively than a placement or workshop utility, consider its scope before adding it to an established playthrough.

The mod page warns that using console commands to skip quests or quest stages can break the mod; it was not designed for that behavior. For context when assembling a larger load order, the Sim Settlements 2 wiki’s suggested-mods page points to workshop improvements and fixes for base-game limitations, including Buffout 4 for engine bug fixes and crash logging. A wiki recommendation is not a requirement for every setup.

- Identify your game build. Compare the installed Fallout 4 version with the selected mod archive and the mod page’s compatibility notes. Place Everywhere lists a file for 1.11.240; Workshop Framework gives separate instructions for next-generation and pre-next-generation builds.
- Confirm dependencies. Install F4SE for Place Everywhere, Workshop Framework before Workshop Plus, and Contraptions Workshop before Manufacturing Extended. Check whether you want MCM for Workshop Plus features.
- Review conflicts and load-order notes. Workshop Framework may be incompatible with mods that alter the same workshop scripts. Read its guidance alongside the instructions for other mods in your load order.
- Choose scope deliberately. Placement and workshop utilities target building workflow; Manufacturing Extended expands DLC-based manufacturing; Sim Settlements 2 changes settlement gameplay and adds story content.
- Read current requirements and known issues. Mod files and compatibility notes can change after game updates. Check the relevant mod page and selected file when installing.
Which mod should you start with?
For place objects anywhere-style control, start with Place Everywhere. For workshop-mode tools, use Workshop Plus with Workshop Framework. For factory crafting, choose Manufacturing Extended if you own Contraptions Workshop. For a major settlement and story overhaul, consider Sim Settlements 2. There is no single best choice across all four jobs; select the one that matches the change you actually want.
