It is the closest overall match for Elden Ring’s oppressive atmosphere, brutal combat, tragic ambition and buried history. What makes a good follow-up to Elden Ring?
Elden Ring is officially described by KADOKAWA as an action RPG built around flexible exploration in a vast dark-fantasy world. Its appeal is not only difficult fights. It is the feeling that every ruined road, hostile creature and fragment of lore belongs to a much older disaster. The best manga follow-ups therefore need more than swords and monsters: they need danger, secrets, damaged people and a world that withholds its full history.

The four recommendations below approach that feeling from different directions. Berserk is the broadest tonal match. Claymore turns the power-versus-corruption idea into a focused monster-hunting system. Dorohedoro replaces medieval ruins with a filthy, surreal city shaped by magical experimentation. Elden Ring: Become Lord is the literal setting continuation, using an official comic to stay close to the game’s characters, dungeons and bosses.
At a glance: which manga should you choose?
| Manga | Best match for | World shape | Horror and humor | Completion or format advantage |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Berserk | The closest overall tone, tragic character arcs and grim medieval fantasy | An expanding epic fantasy world driven by violence, ambition and enormous lore | Extremely violent and horrifying, with dark comedy | Berserk Deluxe Edition manga hardcovers collect three regular volumes per book |
| Claymore | A finished saga, female warrior leads and structured monster hunting | A society threatened by Yoma and protected by half-human, half-monster warriors | Monster-focused horror with a serious, tragic mood | The original serialization ran from 2001 to 2014; a Claymore Complete Box Set is available |
| Dorohedoro | Surreal worldbuilding, body horror, mystery and black humor | The Hole, a polluted city targeted by sorcerers conducting black-arts experiments | Grotesque violence balanced by abrasive comedy | Dorohedoro Vol. 1 offers a direct entry point |
| Elden Ring: Become Lord | More of the game’s setting, imagery and terminology | The Elden Ring world, with a Tarnished adventurer, dungeons and bosses | More accessible than the harshest choices here | Released in vertical-scroll, print book-comic and ebook formats |
1. Berserk — the closest overall match
Why it follows Elden Ring so well
Dark Horse describes Kentaro Miura’s Berserk as “violent, horrifying, and mercilessly funny,” an evolving epic that can stand alongside adult fantasy in any medium. That combination explains why it is the strongest first recommendation for an Elden Ring player. Both works make brutality part of the setting rather than an occasional shock, and both connect personal suffering to powers and histories that are much larger than any one fighter.
#1 Best Overall
- Easy to read text
- It can be a gift option
- This product will be an excellent pick for you
The match is especially strong if your favorite moments in the game involve oppressive landscapes, cursed bodies, morally compromised characters and lore that has to be assembled from scattered evidence. Berserk is not a light adventure and does not soften its violence. Its emotional force comes from watching people pursue ambition, loyalty or survival while the world repeatedly makes those goals more costly.
What kind of reader is it for?
- Choose it for the nearest tonal equivalent to the Lands Between’s bleakness.
- Choose it if tragic character arcs matter as much as battles.
- Choose it if you enjoy demanding artwork and a story that keeps expanding its mythology.
- Choose it if dark comedy can exist beside extreme horror without breaking the mood.
How to buy it
The physical starting point is the Berserk Deluxe Edition manga. Dark Horse’s deluxe hardcovers collect three regular volumes in each book, so a single purchase provides a substantial opening portion rather than a thin sampler. Stock, regional editions and prices change, so check the current listing for your country before ordering.
What may surprise an Elden Ring player
Berserk offers the closest broad atmosphere, but it is not an adaptation of a game structure. You are following a sustained character epic rather than choosing routes through an explorable map. Its mysteries accumulate through the lives of its characters and the consequences of their choices, not through item descriptions or optional dungeon paths. Read it when you want the emotional and visual darkness that Elden Ring evokes, not a page-for-page recreation of its systems.
2. Claymore — a completed sword-and-monster saga
The central idea
VIZ describes Claymore as a world where Yoma prey on humans and “half-human, half-monster” Claymores fight them while resisting their own savage impulses. That premise turns one of Elden Ring’s recurring tensions—the price of power and the fear of losing yourself—into the foundation of an organized warrior system.
Rank #2
Instead of an open-ended pilgrimage through ruins, Claymore gives you a clearer monster-hunting structure. The warriors have a defined purpose, yet every victory raises the question of how much humanity can be surrendered in order to win. This makes the series a good choice when you want the grimness of Berserk but a more concentrated plot and a more consistent focus on combat against named supernatural threats.
Why completion matters
The original serialization ran from 2001 to 2014. For readers who prefer to begin a long story knowing that its original run is complete, that is a meaningful advantage. VIZ lists a Claymore Complete Box Set, making it the most convenient one-package option among these recommendations.
Best for
- Readers who want a finished long-form story rather than an ongoing epic.
- Readers drawn to female warrior protagonists and questions of identity.
- Readers who prefer a recognizable monster-hunting framework to a deliberately chaotic setting.
- Readers who want to collect the whole series at once through the Claymore Complete Box Set.
How it differs from Berserk
Claymore shares the severity and body horror, but its world is more institutional. The central conflict is organized around the Yoma threat and the warriors created to oppose it. That focus gives the series a cleaner forward drive than an epic built around many competing powers and histories. If Berserk is your choice for maximum tonal breadth, Claymore is your choice for a disciplined, completed monster saga.

3. Dorohedoro — grotesque, surreal and funny
A different kind of dark fantasy
VIZ places Dorohedoro in the Hole, a dismal city where sorcerers abduct people for black-arts experiments. Caiman, a man with a reptile head and amnesia, and Nikaido hunt the sorcerers responsible. Their investigation eventually pulls the Hole and the sorcerers’ world toward war.
Rank #3
This is the recommendation for an Elden Ring fan who values bizarre factions, filthy environments and unexplained transformations as much as medieval grandeur. The setting is not trying to look like a conventional kingdom in decline. Its identity comes from magical abuse, physical deformity and the uneasy coexistence of people who should be enemies. The result is body horror that can turn suddenly comic without becoming safe or wholesome.
Why the mystery works
Caiman’s reptile head and amnesia give the story an immediate question, but the larger mystery is distributed across the relationship between the Hole and the sorcerers’ world. You learn about both places through pursuit, violence and unstable alliances. That makes Dorohedoro a strong fit if you enjoyed entering an Elden Ring area with only partial context and gradually realizing that its strange inhabitants are connected.
Best for
- Readers who want the strangest setting in this list.
- Readers comfortable with extreme body horror and dirty, unsettling environments.
- Readers who enjoy black humor in the middle of violent scenes.
- Readers who prefer mystery and chaotic relationships over a traditional heroic quest.
Where to start
VIZ lists Dorohedoro Vol. 1 as the official entry volume. Start there if you want to test whether its combination of grotesque imagery, absurdity and violence works for you before committing to more books. It is less useful as a substitute for medieval dark fantasy than Berserk or Claymore, but it is the best choice when the appeal of Elden Ring lies in discovering something genuinely hard to classify.

4. Elden Ring: Become Lord — stay inside the game’s universe
What it offers
KADOKAWA announced ELDEN RING Become Lord as a comic about a Tarnished adventurer pursuing the Elden Lord goal, meeting characters, exploring dungeons and battling bosses. It is the most literal answer to the question “what should I read after Elden Ring?” because it retains the game’s setting, terminology and visual identity instead of translating those qualities into a new world.
The comic is distributed in vertical-scroll, print book-comic and ebook editions. That range matters if you normally read digital comics or want a physical volume to sit beside your game collection. Edition availability can vary by territory, so confirm the format sold in your region.
Who should choose it first?
- Choose it if you want more Tarnished-related adventure before leaving the game’s universe.
- Choose it if familiar characters, dungeons and bosses matter more than discovering a new mythology.
- Choose it if the other recommendations sound too severe or too strange.
- Choose it as a short bridge from playing to reading rather than as a replacement for a separate manga epic.
How it compares with the other three
Become Lord has the strongest setting continuity but the narrowest scope as a recommendation for dark-fantasy manga generally. Berserk, Claymore and Dorohedoro each build independent worlds with their own rules and histories. Become Lord assumes that the reader already cares about the game’s world; its advantage is recognition, not distance from the source.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Choose by the part of Elden Ring you miss most
If you miss the oppressive atmosphere
Pick Berserk. Its blend of horror, tragic ambition and enormous lore is the nearest overall tonal match.
If you miss fighting monsters with a clear purpose
Pick Claymore. Its Yoma threat and warrior system give every hunt a defined context, while the half-human nature of the Claymores keeps the cost of power in view.
Best Value
If you miss discovering bizarre places and factions
Pick Dorohedoro. The Hole and the sorcerers’ world are unlike the other settings here, and the mystery is inseparable from grotesque physical change.
If you miss the terminology, bosses and Tarnished perspective
Pick Elden Ring: Become Lord. It is the direct continuation of the setting rather than an analogue.
Horror, humor and accessibility
| Reader priority | Best choice | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Most severe violence and horror | Berserk | Its publisher explicitly emphasizes its violent and horrifying character. |
| Monster horror with a focused premise | Claymore | Yoma hunting and the warriors’ struggle against their own transformation keep the horror central. |
| Body horror plus black comedy | Dorohedoro | Grotesque experiments and absurd relationships share the same space. |
| Most accessible transition from the game | Elden Ring: Become Lord | The setting, Tarnished goal, dungeons and bosses are already familiar. |
“Accessible” here means familiar in premise, not necessarily light in subject matter. None of these works is a conventional cheerful adventure, and Berserk and Dorohedoro are the harshest choices for readers sensitive to graphic violence or body horror.

A practical reading order
- Read Berserk first if you want the strongest all-around tonal match and can commit to an evolving epic.
- Move to Claymore if you want a completed series with a more concentrated monster-hunting structure.
- Try Dorohedoro when you are ready for a major change of setting, surreal magic and black humor.
- Use Elden Ring: Become Lord whenever your priority is staying with the game’s universe, whether as your first choice or as a bridge between the other series.
This order starts with the closest broad match, then moves toward more specialized choices. It is not a quality ranking: each book answers a different reason for wanting a post-Elden Ring read.
Buying formats and what to verify
- Berserk Deluxe Edition manga: deluxe hardcovers collect three regular volumes per book.
- Claymore Complete Box Set: the convenient option for collecting a completed original run.
- Dorohedoro Vol. 1: the straightforward trial volume before committing to the setting.
- Elden Ring: Become Lord: available in vertical-scroll, print book-comic and ebook forms, with regional availability to check.
Publisher catalogs and retailers can change stock, prices and regional editions. Verify the current product page, language, format and shipping region before buying; the formats above describe the editions identified by the publishers, not a promise of current inventory.
Why these four cover the useful range
Together, the recommendations map the main ways a player might respond to Elden Ring. Berserk supplies the closest combination of brutality, tragedy and epic darkness. Claymore isolates the struggle between humanity and monstrous power in a finished saga. Dorohedoro preserves the thrill of unexplained places and hostile factions while turning the setting into surreal urban sorcery. Elden Ring: Become Lord preserves the original world itself.
KADOKAWA reported more than 20 million Elden Ring units shipped in its 2024 announcement, so the audience looking for a next step is broad. There is no independent sales or reader-survey data establishing a universal “number one” manga for those players. The useful ranking is therefore a fit decision: start with the book whose atmosphere, world shape, horror level or continuity matches what you actually want to carry forward.
