The best deck for Retro Royale depends on the event’s card restrictions and the way you like to attack: heavy pushes, fast repeated pressure, or counterpushes. The latest official rules located are for the event held March 12–26, 2025, not a confirmed October 2026 run. Check the in-game event screen before using any of these archetypes; a rerun may have different rules.
What rules did the 2025 Retro Royale use?
Supercell described the March 12–26, 2025 event as a ladder built around a limited pool of 80 classic cards, recreating a game state from before Tower Troops, Evolutions, and Champions. The announcement also specified 30 ladder steps, rewards for victories, and no loss of progress when you lost. Those are the documented rules for that run, not a guarantee about a future version. Do not mix those rules up with the original 2017 Retro Royale. That event used cards from before the March 2016 release, ended at six wins, and offered one free entry followed by entries costing 10 Gems, according to Supercell’s 2017 announcement. The name has been used for different event formats, so confirm the year and rules shown in-game.

Which Retro Royale decks are worth trying?
Deck Shop’s Retro Royale directory names several possible archetypes, but it does not provide a transparent challenge-specific ranking or win-rate data. LavaLoon: build a heavy air push
LavaLoon focuses on assembling a substantial air attack rather than applying constant low-cost pressure. Consider it if you enjoy committing to a push and can manage the risk of spending heavily; make sure the list has answers to the threats you expect to face.
Golem: turn defense into a large counterpush
Golem is another heavy-push option. Its basic appeal is concentrating resources around a large attack, so think about how you will defend while building toward that commitment. One Reddit player reported reaching Competitive mode after a self-reported 30 wins and four losses with a Golem deck during the 2025 event. Hog’Nado: apply repeated pressure
Hog’Nado is a pressure-oriented archetype to consider if you prefer attacking in repeated opportunities and defending between them. Its fit depends on whether you can keep a reliable route to tower damage while handling the opposing push.

X-Bow cycle puts more emphasis on repeated pressure and defense than a single large push. Try it if you are comfortable managing a faster cycle and adjusting your defense to the opponent. The directory names the 3.0 X-Bow cycle archetype; verify the exact list and card eligibility before playing it.

PEKKA Bridge Spam: counterpush after defending
PEKKA Bridge Spam offers a different counterpush pattern: defend, then look for a chance to apply pressure with the surviving troops. It may suit players who prefer responding to an opponent’s commitment rather than building one slow push from the back.
Giant Miner Double Prince: use a flexible counterpush
This archetype combines a Giant-led attack with a counterpush approach. Compare its demands with PEKKA Bridge Spam by considering which cards you are more comfortable defending with and how you want to convert a successful defense into tower pressure.

Other directory options
Deck Shop also lists Splashyard and Giant Sparky Rage. They are additional archetypes to inspect if their play patterns suit you, but the directory listing alone does not establish their performance in the event.
How should you choose a deck?
Start with a plan you can execute consistently, then confirm every card is legal in the live event. These questions are more useful than an unsupported “best deck” ranking:

- Tower damage: Does the deck have a dependable way to threaten towers, and can you create opportunities to use it?
- Defense: Can you answer the attacks you are likely to face without spending so much that your own pressure disappears?
- Commitment and cycle: Do you prefer saving resources for a major push, or cycling into repeated attacks and defenses?
- Comfort: Can you pilot the archetype under pressure and adapt when an opponent changes strategy?
- Eligibility: Does every card appear in the current event pool and meet its rules?
That last check matters because the Deck Shop directory includes an evolved Dart Goblin deck, while Supercell’s 2025 description says Evolutions were excluded. The mismatch does not establish that every directory list is invalid, but it is a reason to verify individual cards in-game rather than assume a page labeled Retro Royale matches the live rules.
Are any Retro Royale decks proven to be the best?
No challenge-specific aggregate win-rate figure is established by the cited sources. Deck Shop provides archetype names, not a substantiated performance ranking, and the Golem result is one player’s self-reported run. There is therefore no evidence here to crown a universal winner or compare these archetypes by win rate. Choose a legal deck that matches your play style, then adjust it to the opponents you encounter.
