It is not established here as a Paradox-style, continuous-time campaign. If you care more about real-time realm management than fantasy, Knights of Honor II: Sovereign is a useful comparison—but it is set in historical Europe. The right choice depends on which parts of Paradox games you want to keep: ruler-level politics, long-term state management, or the fantasy world itself.
What “Paradox-style” can mean
Players often use the phrase for several different pleasures: continuous real-time play that can be paused, managing a realm over a long campaign, and making political decisions through rulers, families, laws, diplomacy, or internal factions. Those systems do not always come together in one fantasy game.
Paradox’s Crusader Kings page describes real-time grand strategy centered on dynasties, vassals, laws, taxes, courtiers, and nobles. For a nation-scale reference point, the Europa Universalis V Steam listing emphasizes diplomacy, economics, military systems, domestic politics, and societal change. Europa Universalis V is a historical game, not a fantasy recommendation; Steam lists its release date as November 4, 2025.
Use those reference points to decide what you mean by “like Paradox”: campaign pacing, political texture, scale of rule, or simply the feeling of being responsible for a realm. A fantasy setting alone does not establish that a game shares Paradox’s campaign format.

Best supported fantasy pick: Age of Wonders 4
Paradox Interactive describes Age of Wonders 4 as a “fantasy strategy game”, with features including Wizard Kings and the Astral Sea. That makes it the strongest supported choice here when an invented fantasy world and broad strategy are your priorities.
It should be treated as a fantasy strategy alternative, not as a confirmed match for Paradox’s continuous-time, pauseable campaigns. The official page reviewed for this recommendation does not establish that pacing or a comparable focus on dynasties, vassal politics, laws, and court life. If those specific systems are the reason you play Crusader Kings, do not assume Age of Wonders 4 reproduces them just because it shares a publisher and a strategy label.

Real-time realm management, without fantasy: Knights of Honor II
THQ Nordic calls Knights of Honor II: Sovereign a “fresh take on medieval real-time grand strategy.” Its official site describes a campaign involving religion, diplomacy, city development, a royal court, and RTS battles. Those features make it a useful adjacent comparison for someone who wants a realm-management campaign with political and economic concerns.
The trade-off is decisive: its setting is historical Europe, not an invented fantasy world. Choose it only if the real-time realm-management side matters more to you than fantasy. Its official description supports a comparison on those systems, but does not make it a fantasy substitute.

- Put fantasy first: start with Age of Wonders 4, while treating its campaign pacing and political systems as unconfirmed by the cited official page.
- Put continuous real-time realm management first: consider Knights of Honor II: Sovereign if historical Europe is acceptable.
- Put dynasties and feudal politics first: use Crusader Kings as the closest reference point for those specific systems, but it is not a fantasy pick.
- Put national politics and societal change first: Europa Universalis V is the historical nation-scale reference; Steam lists it as released November 4, 2025.
