There is no final, tested PS5 settings preset for Forza Horizon 6 yet because the PlayStation 5 version has not launched. Forza has confirmed one important option: a 60FPS Performance mode. The standard PS5 release is scheduled for January 26, 2027, while Premium Edition early access is scheduled to begin January 21, 2027. Until the game ships, use Performance mode as the starting point for responsive racing, but treat resolution, HDR behavior, VRR support, ray tracing, and PS5 Pro differences as unconfirmed.
What is confirmed for Forza Horizon 6 on PS5
The official 2026 Forza announcement confirms that the PlayStation 5 version will include a 60FPS Performance mode. The announcement’s exact wording is: “A 60FPS Performance mode will also be available.” That is the only PS5 graphics mode detail that has been formally established.

| Item | Confirmed information | What is not yet established |
|---|---|---|
| PS5 launch | January 26, 2027 | Final launch-day patch behavior |
| Premium Edition access | January 21, 2027 | Whether early-access builds expose every final display option |
| Performance mode | A 60FPS Performance mode is confirmed | Output resolution, dynamic-resolution range, and frame-time results |
| Other graphics modes | Not specified in the official material reviewed | Quality mode, mode count, resolution targets, and visual trade-offs |
| Ray tracing | Not specified | Whether reflections, global illumination, or other ray-traced effects are available |
| HDR and VRR | Not specified | Calibration controls, brightness behavior, supported VRR range, and 120Hz operation |
| PS5 Pro | No official feature set specified | Enhanced resolution, ray tracing, frame-rate options, or a separate Pro mode |
PlayStation 5 also supports cross-platform play and cross-save with Xbox and Steam. That feature is confirmed separately from the graphics settings and does not establish any particular resolution or frame-rate target.
The best pre-release recommendation
Plan to select Performance mode first. A stable 60 frames per second is normally the most useful target in a driving game: steering corrections, braking points, camera movement, and traffic avoidance all feel more immediate when the game updates twice as often as a 30FPS presentation.

This is a recommendation for the launch build, not a claim that every PS5 display mode has already been documented. Forza has not published a complete PS5 settings menu, so do not treat online claims about exact 4K output, ray tracing, or a guaranteed Quality mode as settled specifications.
Why Performance is the sensible starting point
- It is the only PS5 graphics mode explicitly confirmed by Forza.
- The announced target is 60FPS, which prioritizes control response for racing.
- It gives you a clear baseline for testing image quality, HDR, and VRR after installation.
- You can change modes later if the released build offers a visual-quality option that better suits your display and play style.
When a quality-focused mode could make sense
If the finished game includes a Quality mode, it may trade frame rate for higher image quality, denser effects, or ray-traced features. None of those particular benefits has been confirmed for PS5. Consider such a mode only after checking the in-game description and comparing it on your own display. For competitive driving, time trials, or anyone sensitive to control latency, retain Performance mode unless the quality mode demonstrably remains at a frame rate you find comfortable.
Prepare your PS5 and display before launch
You cannot configure an unreleased game’s hidden options, but you can remove common console-side limitations. These steps affect the PS5 video output globally, so note your original settings if the console is shared with other players.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute- On the PS5 home screen, open Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output.
- Set Resolution to Automatic unless you have a specific troubleshooting reason to force 1080p or 4K. Automatic allows the console and display to negotiate a supported signal.
- Check 120 Hz Output. Leave it on Automatic if your television or monitor supports 120Hz; otherwise the console will use the highest supported rate.
- Check VRR. Use Automatic only when the display advertises VRR support over the connected HDMI input. This does not prove that Forza Horizon 6 will use VRR; it merely allows the console to use it when a game supports it.
- Open HDR and choose On When Supported. This prevents SDR games from being forced into HDR while allowing supported games to output HDR.
- Run Adjust HDR and follow all three calibration screens in your room’s normal gaming lighting. Do not copy another television’s values: panel brightness and tone mapping differ by model.
- Connect the PS5 directly to the display or to an AV receiver confirmed to pass the resolution, HDR, and refresh rate you intend to use. A switch, cable, or receiver that cannot pass the signal can make a game appear to lack an option.
These are console preparation steps, not confirmed Forza requirements. The final game may expose its own HDR calibration, VRR toggle, or display-mode selector, and those controls should take precedence over assumptions made before release.

Performance mode versus a possible Quality mode
Use the following decision framework once the PS5 build is available. The exact values in the table are intentionally limited to what has been announced.
| Priority | First mode to try | Reason | What to verify in-game |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fast steering and braking response | Performance | Forza confirms a 60FPS Performance mode | Frame-time consistency, input response, and whether resolution changes dynamically |
| Highest image quality | Quality, if offered | May favor effects or resolution, but no PS5 Quality specification is confirmed | Actual frame rate, reflections, image clarity while driving, and any mode limitations |
| Large 120Hz display | Performance first | A 60FPS target is confirmed; 120Hz output is not | Whether the game offers a higher refresh option or simply outputs 60FPS inside a 120Hz signal |
| PS5 Pro owner | Performance first | No Pro-specific feature list has been announced | Any labeled Pro enhancement, separate resolution mode, ray tracing, or frame-rate setting |
Do not infer a 120FPS mode from a 120Hz television, and do not infer ray tracing from a console’s hardware capability. Both require explicit support in the game.
HDR settings: what to do now and what to check later
HDR support and calibration controls for the PS5 version have not been specified. You can still prepare a reliable baseline by calibrating the PS5 itself and then checking whether the game adds a separate screen.
Before starting the game
- Use the display’s low-latency or game picture preset, if available, so image processing does not add avoidable delay.
- Disable aggressive automatic contrast, motion interpolation, and overscan on the television. These features can alter tone mapping or crop the user interface.
- Calibrate the PS5 HDR screens with the television in the same picture preset you will use for racing.
After the game launches
- Open Forza Horizon 6’s display or graphics menu and look for an HDR toggle, paper-white control, peak-brightness control, or a named calibration screen.
- If the game offers a calibration image, adjust until the instructions’ reference symbol is barely visible, then verify bright clouds, sunlight, and dashboard highlights during actual driving.
- Check night scenes and tunnels. A setting that preserves bright highlights can still crush dark detail if the tone curve is wrong.
- Recheck HDR after changing television picture modes, enabling a PS5 Pro feature, or moving the console to a different display.
Because no official PS5 HDR specification is available yet, there is no trustworthy universal brightness number to publish. Use the game’s own instructions when they become available rather than copying values from another platform.

VRR and 120Hz: useful possibilities, not confirmed features
Variable refresh rate can reduce visible tearing and smooth uneven frame delivery, but the PS5 version’s VRR support and operating range have not been announced. A compatible television and a PS5 VRR setting therefore do not guarantee that Forza Horizon 6 will activate VRR.
How to test VRR at launch
- Confirm the television is connected to its HDMI port designated for 120Hz or VRR, if the set has different ports.
- On PS5, verify Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output > VRR is set to Automatic.
- Start the game in Performance mode and look for an in-game VRR option or a display-information indicator from the television.
- Drive through a busy area, then through an open road, and watch for tearing, judder, or brightness changes. A television’s “VRR active” message confirms the signal state, not a particular in-game frame rate.
Do not force VRR “for unsupported games” merely to obtain a badge or status message. That system option can change behavior outside the game and cannot create VRR support that the software does not provide.
Resolution and ray tracing: wait for verified details
Pre-release material has not established the PS5 output resolution, whether the game uses dynamic scaling, or whether it includes ray-traced reflections or global illumination. Consequently, claims such as “native 4K,” “4K upscaled from a fixed internal resolution,” or “ray tracing only on PS5 Pro” should be treated as unverified until an official specification or the released build demonstrates them.

Examine thin fences, distant signs, foliage, car reflections, and shadow edges while moving; a static menu image can hide dynamic-resolution behavior. Record the selected mode, the display’s reported signal, and whether the frame rate remains stable during heavy traffic or weather. Those observations will tell you more than the console’s output-resolution label alone.

PS5 Pro guidance
The available announcement does not define a PS5 Pro mode or enhancements. Do not buy or change hardware on the assumption that the Pro version will add ray tracing, a higher resolution, or a faster frame-rate mode.
If the released game includes a Pro label, test it as a separate preset rather than assuming it is automatically superior. Compare the same three things: control response, frame-time stability, and image quality in motion. A sharper picture is not an improvement if the mode introduces a frame-rate behavior you dislike, and a ray-traced effect may be difficult to see while racing at speed.
Input latency and racing control
Forza has confirmed a 60FPS Performance mode, but no independent PS5 latency measurement is available before release. You can still minimize avoidable delay:
Recommended Free Tools
- Use the display’s game or low-latency picture preset.
- Connect the controller directly to the console or use a reliable wireless connection with the controller charged.
- Disable television motion smoothing and extra image-processing features.
- Compare steering and braking in the same car and route after changing only one graphics option at a time.
- Use frame-time consistency as well as the headline frame-rate target. A nominal 60FPS mode that stutters can feel less responsive than a consistent lower rate, but the final PS5 behavior cannot be judged until launch.
Launch-day verification checklist
Use this checklist after installing the January 2027 PS5 release or entering through Premium Edition early access.
- Install every available game update before judging performance.
- Open the graphics, display, and accessibility menus and record every mode name exactly as shown.
- Select Performance mode and confirm whether the menu states a target frame rate.
- Note the output resolution reported by the PS5 and television, but do not mistake that output signal for the game’s internal rendering resolution.
- Check for Quality, 120Hz, VRR, HDR, and ray-tracing toggles. Mark each as present, absent, or unavailable in the selected mode.
- Test a repeatable route in daylight, at night, in traffic, and in weather. Watch for frame-time drops, shimmering, reflection changes, and input delay.
- If you own a PS5 Pro, repeat the same route with each Pro-specific option enabled and disabled.
- After choosing a mode, restart the game once and confirm that the setting persists.
Troubleshooting common display problems
| Symptom | Likely check | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Performance mode is missing | The game is not updated, or the menu uses a different category | Install updates, inspect Graphics and Display menus, and read each mode description rather than relying on internet screenshots. |
| TV shows 60Hz instead of 120Hz | Unsupported HDMI port, cable, receiver, or console output setting | Connect directly to the display, enable 120 Hz Output on PS5, and use the display’s supported HDMI input. |
| HDR looks gray or overly dark | Conflicting television preset or incorrect calibration | Use one game picture preset, rerun PS5 Adjust HDR, and then apply the game’s calibration if it provides one. |
| VRR indicator never appears | VRR is unsupported by the game, disabled on the display, or connected through incompatible equipment | Verify the display port and PS5 VRR setting; do not assume the game supports VRR until its menu or output confirms it. |
| Image is sharp but motion feels delayed | Television processing or a quality-focused mode | Enable the low-latency preset and return to Performance mode for comparison. |
| PS5 Pro options are absent | No Pro enhancement may be implemented, or the option may appear only after an update | Check the game’s version and official update notes; do not infer a missing feature from hardware capability. |
Cross-play and cross-save implications
Forza has confirmed cross-platform play and cross-save between PS5, Xbox, and Steam. That means your graphics choice remains a local display decision: changing Performance or HDR settings on PS5 does not change how another player sees the game or establish parity between platforms. Keep separate notes for each device if you move between PS5 and another platform, because the available graphics menus and display capabilities may differ.
Bottom line
Choose the confirmed 60FPS Performance mode when Forza Horizon 6 launches on PS5, then verify the finished game’s actual resolution, frame pacing, HDR controls, VRR behavior, ray tracing, and PS5 Pro options. The PS5 release is scheduled for January 26, 2027, with Premium Edition early access on January 21, 2027; until that build is available, any more specific “best settings” preset would be speculation.
