Choose Brawlhalla for friends on different platforms
Brawlhalla is a 2D platform fighter built around movement, knockouts, and larger matches rather than the traditional one-on-one format. Its official site describes it as a free 2D platform fighting game and advertises full cross-play across PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android. It supports up to eight local or online players and lists more than 50 playable Legends. Those features make it the most straightforward pick here when your group wants to play together across devices.
The official site also flags in-game purchases, including random items. Check the current platform store and regional listing for details before downloading.
Choose 2XKO for coordinated tag-team matches
2XKO is the pick for players who want tag-team combat rather than a solo fighter format. On the US PlayStation Store listing, players can control both champions alone or join a friend for 2v2 combat. The listing dates the PS5 release to January 20, 2026, marks the game free, says in-game purchases are optional, and requires online play. Choose HYPERFIGHT for PC practice or local versus
HYPERFIGHT is a 1v1 duel fighter with a deliberately lean format. Its Steam listing includes local versus, online lobbies for up to eight players, arcade, training, and tutorial modes. That mix makes it a useful option if you want to learn through practice or play against someone on the same machine. The Steam listing identifies seven characters plus one unlockable character and says the game supports controllers.
Steam lists Windows 7 as the game’s minimum OS, but its listing also notes that the Steam Client has supported only Windows 10 and later since January 1, 2024. If you use an older Windows system, verify current Steam Client compatibility rather than relying on the game’s minimum field alone.

What “free” means for these games
Free usually means you can begin without buying the game; it does not guarantee that every item or feature is free.
