OBS Studio is the best-supported free option in the available documentation for looping nature footage on YouTube Live. Use its built-in Media Source to repeat one video file, or its VLC Video source to cycle through a playlist. The single-file option does not require VLC; playlist playback does.
Choose the right OBS source

OBS lists both source types for Windows, macOS, and Linux in its Media Sources documentation, dated January 11, 2022. OBS Studio also brings scene composition, encoding, recording, and streaming together in one application. The official OBS Help Portal says it has no watermark or usage limitations and can be used commercially; it identifies the help-page license as GPLv2, while the OBS project repository specifies GPLv2 or later. VLC is free and open source as well; see VideoLAN’s About VLC page and the VLC project repository.

Open OBS Studio and create or select the scene you want to use for the live stream.

In the Sources panel, select + and choose Media Source. Create a new source or select an existing one.

In the source properties, choose the local video file. Turn on Loop so playback restarts after the file ends.

Adjust the source in the preview so the footage fits your scene. Check the preview and audio before starting the stream.
Media Source also exposes controls such as restart on activation, hardware decoding where available, playback speed, and behavior at the end of a file. These are playback controls, not a guarantee that a particular computer can stream continuously without interruption.

Loop a playlist with VLC Video

Install VLC before setting up the OBS source. Match the VLC architecture to OBS: OBS documentation notes that a 64-bit OBS installation requires 64-bit VLC.

In OBS, select + in the Sources panel and choose VLC Video. If the source is unavailable, check that VLC is installed and that its architecture matches OBS.

Add the local clips to the source’s playlist, then confirm Loop Playlist is enabled. OBS says this setting is on by default, but check it rather than assuming.

Review the scene preview and audio, and confirm the playlist plays through and returns to its beginning.
Prepare the YouTube Live stream
OBS supplies the playback and streaming application, but you must also configure YouTube Live and enter the stream key in OBS. YouTube account eligibility and recommended encoder settings are not established by the cited OBS source, and a suitable configuration depends on the channel and computer. Check YouTube’s current live-streaming requirements and OBS’s current streaming guidance for your account and setup before going live; do not assume a looping source alone makes a stream eligible or reliable.
Make sure you have the rights to the footage and audio
A nature video being publicly viewable on YouTube does not grant permission to rebroadcast it. YouTube describes possible reuse routes such as getting permission, using work under a Creative Commons license, using public-domain work, or relying on an applicable copyright exception. It cautions that none guarantees avoiding a copyright claim or Content ID match. Read YouTube’s copyright guidance and verify the rights to the specific footage and audio, including music or material embedded in a video.

YouTube says a creator may select its Creative Commons Attribution license only when the work is licensable under CC BY, and reusers must provide attribution under that license. A displayed license does not establish that the uploader cleared every element in the video. See YouTube’s license types guidance, and keep attribution details when the license requires them.

The video stops at the end. For a single file, reopen Media Source properties and check Loop. For multiple clips, check Loop Playlist on the VLC Video source.

The clip does not appear in the scene. Verify that the selected local file is correct and that the source is visible in the scene. Check the preview and adjust the source layout if it is outside the visible canvas.

The stream is interrupted or the computer struggles. The source documentation does not establish that a specific computer can run continuously. Check the machine’s performance and OBS status, and validate your setup before relying on it for an extended stream; this workflow is not a guarantee of uninterrupted service.

You receive a copyright claim or Content ID match. Recheck permissions and the rights for every audio and video element. Public availability or a displayed license alone does not prove that all elements were cleared.
