Elden Ring: Nightreign is a more tentative lead, cited as an analogy by one preview writer. Neither is established as a close substitute, so the useful question is what each recommendation is actually based on.
What makes Crimson Moon distinctive?
Crimson Moon is a gothic action RPG set in Gildenarch, a city threatened by undead, vampires, demons, and other infernal enemies. You play a Nephilim—a human-angel hybrid—fighting to reclaim it. The announced combat combines melee weapons with parries, finishers, angelic arts, and transformations. Its structure pairs a central hub for planning missions and preparing gear with replayable hunts that can introduce evolving challenges.
That mix matters when looking for games like Crimson Moon: a match might share the combat feel, the dark supernatural setting, the repeatable mission structure, or cooperative play, but the available comparisons do not establish that any one candidate shares all of them. Design Director Scott Brodie described the goal as “a game for players like us who thrive on improvisational and expressive combat” in the February 12, 2026 PlayStation Blog introduction.
Thymesia: the strongest comparison lead
Thymesia is the most concrete game to investigate first because Steam offers an official Crimson Moon x Thymesia bundle on the Crimson Moon Steam page. That storefront pairing is a meaningful signal of audience overlap, but it is not evidence that the games have matching combat systems, settings, difficulty, mission loops, or multiplayer options.

If you are choosing based on a particular feature—such as parries, supernatural abilities, replayable missions, or co-op—check Thymesia‘s own current listing and description for that feature rather than assuming the bundle confirms a match. The evidence here supports it as the first comparison to look into, not as a verified one-to-one alternative.
Elden Ring: Nightreign: a looser, press-sourced analogy
In a June 2026 hands-on preview, PC Gamer writer Morgan Park described Crimson Moon using roguelike and Soulslike framing, then mentioned Elden Ring: Nightreign as a personal analogy. That makes Nightreign a possible direction for players curious about that early preview’s framing—not an official comparison, a broad critical consensus, or proof of shared mechanics. The preview’s comparison is reported in PC Gamer’s hands-on preview.

The distinction is important: the source offers one writer’s impression of an early version. It does not verify that the two games share a particular combat system, setting, mission structure, or multiplayer format. Consider Nightreign only if that broad roguelike/Soulslike framing is what interests you, and consult its own current listing before buying.

Co-op, release, and practical checks
Crimson Moon is playable solo or in two-player online co-op. Its August 4, 2026 official co-op update says encounters scale dynamically and players share a communal life pool. Community Manager Alex Noon wrote, “While Crimson Moon is fully playable solo, every hunt can also be tackled in two-player online co-op.” The PlayStation Blog co-op and launch update does not establish the multiplayer modes of Thymesia or Nightreign.
The publisher’s PlayStation Blog update and Steam listing give Crimson Moon a September 1, 2026 release date; the listed platform availability is PS5 and Windows PC. Check each storefront for your region and platform before purchasing. Steam’s listing showed a $19.99 standard game and a $29.98 Deluxe Edition bundle when accessed October 4, 2026. The August PlayStation announcement listed standard at $19.99 and Deluxe at $29.99, with a $10 upgrade; its Deluxe contents included a Ceremonial Armor Set, Axe of the Gods, and access to a post-launch content expansion. These are platform-specific snapshots, not a promise of current pricing or identical editions.
