“Like ROLLA” can mean several different things: horror atmosphere, dense projectiles, score attack, a top-down viewpoint, retro presentation or ridiculous monster-movie spectacle. The recommendations below separate those priorities instead of pretending that every game is the same kind of shooter.

What ROLLA is, and what its closest alternatives need to match
ROLLA is described by its Steam product page as “a B-movie inspired horror arcade destruction game about survival.” An extraterrestrial creature escapes captivity, rolls, eats and destroys its way through encounters, grows larger, mutates through power-ups and comes under attack from bullets, missiles and fire deployed by human forces. The result is less a conventional military shooter than a playable creature-feature: the monster is both the protagonist and the escalating disaster.

Those tags describe the unusual overlap that makes the game hard to replace with a single genre label. A recommendation can match the bullet density while missing the horror, match the B-movie tone while dropping the score-chasing loop, or match the overhead view while replacing monsters with vehicles.

Tyrmä Games is developing the Windows version, with Pantaloon as publisher. ROLLA is single-player and supports achievements and cloud saves. Steam showed 85% positive feedback from 35 user reviews when accessed on October 18, 2026; that small, changing sample should not be treated as a permanent score.

The best games like ROLLA
1. Outer Terror — the closest pulp-horror substitute
Outer Terror is the first recommendation when the words “B-movie horror” matter more than matching ROLLA’s exact creature controls. Salt & Pixel and VoxPop Games present it as a roguelike bullet-hell game organized as a pulp-horror anthology. Each level is a self-contained comic-book story, so the campaign has the rhythm of moving between cheap, lurid horror episodes rather than following one continuous military operation.
The combat loop adds the replayability that makes bullet-hell games sustainable: weapons and character abilities are randomized, forcing you to adapt your build instead of memorizing one optimal loadout. That structure changes the source of tension. ROLLA’s escalation comes from an alien creature growing, mutating and causing more destruction; Outer Terror asks whether the next run will give you the tools to survive its next pattern of threats.
It is also the strongest option if you want to share the chaos. Outer Terror supports both online and offline co-op, while ROLLA is presented as a single-player game. Co-op changes how you read projectile patterns and manage space: survival becomes a group problem, with players coordinating damage and movement rather than relying on one character’s mutations.

The Windows version released in 2023. Console editions for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and Nintendo Switch followed on April 12, 2024. Pick Outer Terror if your priority order is horror atmosphere, pulp presentation, replayable runs and then co-op. It is less suitable if your main requirement is a single giant creature that physically rolls through a destructible cityscape.
2. ZOE Begone! — hand-drawn arcade momentum
PM Studios markets ZOE Begone! with the compact phrase “Hand-drawn bullet-hell!” That description captures its main appeal: it keeps the pressure and readability of arcade shooting but presents the action as old-fashioned drawn-on-film animation rather than retro pixel art or a grim horror setting.
Its mechanical reference points are useful for ROLLA players. The game combines Metal Slug-style run-and-gun movement with Resogun-style infinite loops and shmup action. In practice, that points toward a game where positioning, dashing and maintaining momentum are as important as simply aiming. ROLLA’s fantasy is becoming a larger and more destructive monster; ZOE Begone! instead makes the player feel like a highly mobile arcade performer moving through a surreal animated set.
An Arcade mode gives the game a straightforward score-chasing frame. The drawn-on-film look supplies the B-movie exaggeration without relying on literal extraterrestrial horror, so it is a good fit when you want loud visual personality and short, repeatable runs rather than a sustained survival story.

ZOE Begone! launched on September 17, 2025 for PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Epic Games Store and Steam. Choose it if ROLLA’s retro energy interests you more than its monster premise, especially if you prefer run-and-gun movement and dashing to a slower, heavier destruction fantasy.
3. Shinorubi — the specialist choice for bullet-hell mastery
Shinorubi is the clearest recommendation for readers who use “bullet-hell” in its strictest sense: dense, deliberate projectile patterns, precise movement and a score loop that rewards repeated practice. PlayStation describes it as a modern shooter made in the bullet-hell tradition, with the player protecting a vulnerable ship core.
Its structure is built for mastery rather than a one-time clear. You can choose among eight ships, five difficulty levels, a boss rush and 12 arranged modes. Those options let you adjust the challenge and revisit encounters under different rules, which is valuable if your enjoyment comes from learning patterns and improving a run by small increments.
Recommended Free Tools
The trade-off is tone. Shinorubi’s science-fiction ship format does not reproduce ROLLA’s dark humor, creature growth or B-movie horror. It also shifts the camera and control language toward a traditional ship shooter, so the fantasy is evasive piloting rather than steering a monster through destruction. Pick Shinorubi when bullet density, boss practice and high-score discipline outrank narrative pulp.

4. Helldivers — co-op science-fiction B-movie chaos
Helldivers matches ROLLA through attitude rather than format. PlayStation describes it as a chaotic co-op shooter and a tongue-in-cheek homage to science-fiction B-movie classics. Players deploy as Super Earth soldiers, land on alien planets, fight hostile creatures and gather resources. That setup delivers the disposable-military satire and over-the-top alien warfare that ROLLA’s premise suggests, but it is built around a squad instead of one expanding monster.
The difference matters in play. ROLLA’s score-attack identity and single-player survival loop focus attention on your own movement, mutations and destruction route. Helldivers is about team positioning, shared objectives and the comic consequences of fighting alongside other players. Friendly-fire risk, coordinated attacks and extraction-style pressure are more relevant to the experience than memorizing a pure shmup pattern.
Choose Helldivers if your ideal ROLLA alternative is a group of friends shouting over a ridiculous science-fiction battle. Do not choose it expecting a dedicated bullet-hell score attack, a top-down creature protagonist or the same isometric destruction rhythm. Platform and multiplayer availability can vary by edition and region, so verify the live listing before buying.
5. RPM – Road Punk Mayhem — a vehicular top-down variant
RPM – Road Punk Mayhem is the most direct alternative for viewpoint and arcade intensity. A PlayStation Store search result describes it as a top-down vertical shoot-’em-up with intense bullet-hell mayhem, cel-shaded visuals and post-apocalyptic stages. Three pilots destroy enemy vehicles, replacing ROLLA’s alien monster with a motorized convoy of playable combatants.

- Compatible with Wide Screens - To ensure compatibility with the dual monitor mount, your each monitor must meet three conditions at the same time: First, computer screens size range: 13 to 32 inches. Second, screen weight range: 4.4 to 19.8 lbs. Third, the back of the monitor screen must have VESA mounting holes with a pitch of 75x75mm or 100x100mm.
- Regarding the compatibility with desks - Your desk must meet three conditions at the same time: First, desk material: Only wooden desks are recommended, plastic or glass desks cannot be used. Second, desk thickness range: 0.59" - 3.54". Third, the bottom of the desk should not have any cross beams or panels, as this will interfere with installation. We recommend carefully checking that your desk and monitors meets all above conditions before purchasing.
- Dual C-Clamp Hold - Worried your dual monitors might wobble or slip? Our upgraded base uses a larger platform plus a dual C-clamp structure to lock the dual monitor arm firmly to your desk. Each arm safely keeps your screens steady while you type, click and game—no shaking, no sliding, just a clean and secure setup you can trust every day. It also provides Grommet Mounting installation choice, both options ensure stable and secure fixation for your 0.59" - 3.54" desk.
- Full-Motion Adjustment For Comfortable View - Pull the screen closer when you’re deep in a spreadsheet, push it back to watch videos, or rotate to portrait for coding — moving everything smoothly with just one hand. The monitor stand offers +85°/-50° tilt, ±90° swivel and 360° rotation. Raise your monitor up to 15.75″ to support a healthy sitting posture. Whether you’re working from home, gaming through the night, or switching between video calls and documents, getting the screens to your natural line of sight helps relieve neck, shoulder and back strain so you can stay focused longer with less fatigue.
- Keep Your Desk Organized: By lifting both screens off the desktop, this dual monitor stand opens up valuable space for your keyboard, notebook, docking station or a simple, clutter-free work area. Built-in cable management guides wires along the arms, keeping cords out of sight and out of the way. Enjoy a tidy, modern workstation that looks as good as it feels to use.
That substitution changes the emotional flavor but preserves several important habits: read the screen from above, thread through incoming fire, prioritize targets and chase a better run. The cel-shaded presentation also keeps the action exaggerated rather than realistic. If you want a compact arcade shooter with a top-down camera and a loud visual identity, RPM is the closest structural match after Outer Terror.
It is not a horror recommendation in the same sense as ROLLA or Outer Terror. Its post-apocalyptic vehicle setting supplies danger and spectacle, not pulp-monster dread. The available description does not establish a co-op mode, and storefront availability may differ by region, so confirm both points on the current listing before committing.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How the alternatives differ on the things ROLLA players usually care about
Bullet density and the score loop
Shinorubi is the specialist: its ships, difficulty settings, boss rush and arranged modes are explicitly organized around repeated pattern practice. ROLLA and Outer Terror use projectile pressure as part of a broader survival-and-destruction loop. ZOE Begone! adds run-and-gun momentum to its bullet-hell action. RPM emphasizes vertical-shooter intensity, while Helldivers treats incoming fire as one element of a cooperative battlefield rather than the center of a score-attack discipline.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Viewpoint and controls
ROLLA’s tags identify both top-down and isometric play. RPM stays closest to that overhead readability, although its vehicles move through vertical shoot-’em-up stages. Shinorubi uses the traditional ship-shooter control model. ZOE Begone! changes the vocabulary to run, gun, dash and loop. Helldivers is a squad shooter, and Outer Terror’s roguelike combat is best understood through its randomized weapons and character abilities rather than a single fixed vehicle or creature model.
B-movie and pulp tone
ROLLA and Outer Terror are the horror-facing choices. ROLLA turns an escaped extraterrestrial into a destructive lead character, while Outer Terror frames each level as a comic-book horror episode. Helldivers shifts the reference point to comedic science-fiction militarism. ZOE Begone! gets its exaggerated feel from drawn-on-film animation. RPM uses cel-shaded post-apocalyptic spectacle. Shinorubi is the least aligned with the B-movie brief because its strongest identity is technical bullet-hell play.
Solo and cooperative play
ROLLA is single-player. Outer Terror explicitly supports online and offline co-op, making it the safest recommendation for shared horror runs. Helldivers is built around team play and therefore changes the experience most radically when played with others. The cited descriptions for ZOE Begone!, Shinorubi and RPM do not establish equivalent co-op modes, so check the current edition rather than assuming multiplayer support.
Which game should you pick?
| If your priority is… | Start with… | Why |
|---|---|---|
| The closest overall horror and pulp match | Outer Terror | It combines bullet-heavy survival, comic-book horror, randomized runs and co-op. |
| Perfecting dense bullet patterns | Shinorubi | Eight ships, five difficulties, boss rush and 12 arranged modes support deliberate practice. |
| Hand-drawn animation and fast movement | ZOE Begone! | Its run-and-gun, infinite-loop and shmup influences make mobility central. |
| Playing a ridiculous alien-war satire with friends | Helldivers | It is designed around cooperative squads and science-fiction B-movie humor. |
| An overhead shooter with vehicles | RPM – Road Punk Mayhem | It preserves the top-down bullet-hell structure while moving the action to post-apocalyptic roads. |
| ROLLA’s exact creature-destruction concept | ROLLA itself | No listed alternative combines the growing monster, mutations, eating, rolling and destruction premise in the same way. |
What to check before you buy or download
- Platform and region: release support is not uniform. Outer Terror’s console date is April 12, 2024, while ZOE Begone! lists several console and PC storefronts. RPM’s regional storefront status should be checked directly, and Helldivers’ current multiplayer support depends on the edition and platform you select.
- Single-player versus co-op: ROLLA is a solo game. Outer Terror supports online and offline co-op, and Helldivers is team-focused. Do not assume that an arcade shooter with a similar tone includes multiplayer.
- Development status: the developer describes ROLLA’s Windows build as in development and lists a demo, missions, collectibles, mutations, an original synth soundtrack and online leaderboards. Features can change before or after launch.
- What you mean by “bullet-hell”: if you want formal pattern mastery, choose Shinorubi; if you want destruction and survival with bullets as one pressure among several, ROLLA or Outer Terror will fit better.
- Storefront figures change: ROLLA’s 85% positive Steam figure came from 35 reviews accessed October 18, 2026. User-review percentages and review counts are volatile, so recheck the live page when making a purchase decision.
Bottom line
Outer Terror is the best first stop for most ROLLA fans because it preserves the combination of pulp horror, bullet-heavy survival and replayable runs while adding co-op. Shinorubi is better for players who primarily want demanding bullet-pattern practice. ZOE Begone! is the stylish movement-driven alternative, Helldivers is the co-op B-movie comedy option, and RPM – Road Punk Mayhem is the top-down vehicular variation. ROLLA remains the only listed game built around becoming a larger, mutating alien disaster, so that specific creature-feature fantasy has no exact substitute.
