Choose by what you liked about Octopath Traveler
Octopath Traveler II combines HD-2D presentation—retro pixel art fused with 3D CG—with eight travelers who have distinct origins and skills. Its Path Actions let characters interact with townspeople in different ways, including obtaining items and bringing people along. Job and skill development, plus the Break and Boost battle systems, are also central to the series. Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake
Start here if the pixel-art world layered with 3D effects was a major part of Octopath’s appeal. The remake is explicitly an HD-2D entry, making it a natural visual neighbor. That resemblance is about presentation: don’t expect the same eight-character structure, Path Actions, or Break and Boost battles.
Live A Live
Live A Live is another option raised by players looking for games after Octopath. Consider it as a broader RPG pick rather than assuming it reproduces Octopath’s look or mechanics; the available evidence supports it as a candidate, not as a one-to-one match.

For jobs and turn-based battles: Bravely Default
Choose the Bravely Default series if building characters through jobs and making tactical decisions within turn-based combat matter more than matching Octopath’s exact visual style. Square Enix’s official catalog describes a job system and its Brave/Default actions, which provide a different way to shape turns and character roles. These are shared broad interests with Octopath, not identical combat systems. See Square Enix’s Bravely Default catalog.
Check the specific game and platform edition before buying: availability and editions vary, and the cited catalog supports the series-level mechanics rather than current platform or stock details for each release.

For a tactical change: Triangle Strategy
Triangle Strategy is worth considering if you like HD-2D-associated presentation but are ready to leave conventional party-based battles behind. Its appeal here is the change in format: it is a tactical-strategy alternative, not an Octopath-style battle system. Players have also mentioned it alongside Octopath recommendations, but that suggestion alone does not establish a detailed mechanical match.
How to make a short list
- Put visuals first: begin with Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake, then consider Live A Live as another player-suggested RPG.
- Put jobs and turn planning first: look at Bravely Default and check which entry is available for your platform.
- Want tactical-grid combat: try Triangle Strategy, knowing its battle format is a deliberate departure.
- Compare the actual systems: if Path Actions, eight distinct travelers, or Break and Boost are the features you most want, verify those specifics before purchasing; a similar art style or job system does not guarantee them.

Octopath’s sales figure is historical context, not a recommendation
Square Enix reported in August 2022 that the first Octopath Traveler had sold more than three million copies worldwide. That dated figure refers to the original game—not Octopath Traveler II—and says nothing about which follow-up is right for you. Square Enix’s announcement gives the figure.
