If you want the closest modern follow-up to Suikoden, start with Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes. Steam describes it as a “spiritual successor to the Suikoden series,” though it is a separate game, not a direct sequel. If you have not played the first two Suikoden games, Suikoden I&II HD Remaster: Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars is the most direct next step.
Which game is most like Suikoden?
Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes
Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes is the clearest pick if you want a modern RPG explicitly connected to Suikoden’s lineage. Its Steam listing calls it “A spiritual successor to the Suikoden series” and identifies it as a story-rich, single-player RPG. That makes it the strongest successor recommendation here, but the wording describes inspiration and lineage—not a continuation of Suikoden’s story.

Rank #2
| If you want… | Best starting point | What the evidence supports |
|---|---|---|
| A modern RPG explicitly linked to Suikoden | Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes | Steam calls it a spiritual successor and describes it as a story-rich, single-player RPG. |
| The original Suikoden experience | Suikoden I&II HD Remaster | Konami says the collection brings back the first two games and highlights their 108 Stars of Destiny. |
| A recruitable ensemble | Compare the actual recruitment systems | Konami identifies the 108 Stars of Destiny as a defining Suikoden feature; a large party alone does not establish the same structure. |
| A growing base and army-scale conflict | Look for both systems specifically | Konami names home-base management and Army Battles among Suikoden’s systems. |
| Political storytelling | Compare narrative focus separately from combat or cast size | Konami’s remaster materials establish Suikoden’s story and character premise; they do not establish equivalent political depth in every other RPG. |
How to pick your next Suikoden-style RPG
- Want a spiritual successor? Start with Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes, keeping in mind it is a separate game.
- New to the series? Play Suikoden I&II HD Remaster to get the first two entries together.
- Looking beyond those choices? Decide whether recruitment, base development, army battles, or political narrative matters most, then check whether a candidate actually includes that feature. A general resemblance to turn-based RPGs is not enough to promise the full Suikoden mix.
