Start with Deus Ex (2000) or Prey (2017) if what you miss is Bloodlines’ immersive-sim freedom: stealth, exploration, powers, and several ways to solve a problem. Choose Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 for the closest continuation of the World of Darkness setting, Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong for dialogue and vampire politics, Vampyr for moral pressure around feeding, and Vampire: The Masquerade – Redemption for an older, more linear lore trip. No single game reproduces Troika’s original combination of first-person role-playing, urban gothic mood, branching conversations, and systemic spaces, so the best follow-up depends on which part of Bloodlines you want to preserve.
Quick picks: which game is right for you?
| Game | Choose it for | What carries over from Bloodlines | What changes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Deus Ex (2000) | The closest overall systems match | First-person RPG structure, skills, stealth, exploration, and consequential choices | Science-fiction setting instead of vampire noir |
| Prey (2017) | The strongest modern immersive-sim successor | Dense environments, powers, stealth, and multiple solutions | Science-fiction horror rather than urban gothic role-play |
| Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 | World of Darkness continuity | First-person vampire role-playing and setting lore | A new production, not a restoration of Troika’s exact design |
| Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong | Dialogue, investigation, and vampire politics | World of Darkness identity and narrative decisions | Less emphasis on first-person combat and immersive-sim traversal |
| Vampyr | Vampire identity and feeding dilemmas | Playing a vampire, investigation, morality, and personal cost | Action-RPG structure rather than a first-person sandbox |
| Vampire: The Masquerade – Redemption | Historical World of Darkness context | Vampire lore and role-playing | Earlier, more linear action-RPG design |
The order above is based on the kind of experience each game preserves, not on a claim that one is universally “better.” A player seeking an immersive sim should begin with Deus Ex or Prey; a player seeking licensed vampire fiction should begin with Bloodlines 2 or Swansong.

Why Bloodlines is difficult to replace
Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines combines several design traditions that are usually separated. Steam’s official listing presents it as a traditional role-playing game blended with first-person action combat, while its tags emphasize vampires, single-player play, supernatural horror, atmosphere, story, stealth, and immersive-sim design. That mixture explains why recommendations based only on “vampire game” or only on “RPG” often feel wrong.

PC Gamer’s description highlights the specific loop that makes the game memorable: you feed on non-player characters, move freely through environments, use vampiric powers, and confront the personal-horror consequences of becoming a vampire. The useful comparison is therefore multidimensional.

- Systemic freedom: Can you approach a problem through stealth, exploration, abilities, conversation, or direct action?
- Branching role-play: Do skills, dialogue choices, and identity alter how situations unfold?
- Vampire or World of Darkness setting: Is the licensed lore itself the main reason you are returning?
- Gothic and noir atmosphere: Do you want the same sense of secrecy, horror, and urban unease?
- Modern availability: Is a current console or PC release more important than mechanical similarity?
The recommendations below identify which of those elements each game delivers and which it leaves behind. That distinction matters: Deus Ex and Prey are the strongest structural successors even though they are not vampire stories, while Swansong and Redemption preserve the setting more directly without reproducing the same first-person sandbox.
Deus Ex (2000): the closest systems match
Why it fits
Choose Deus Ex if you remember Bloodlines primarily as a first-person role-playing game in which your build and your decisions shape encounters. Its skills, stealth, exploration, and player choice occupy the same structural territory. You are not simply moving from one combat arena to the next; you are looking for routes, information, and solutions that reflect how you have developed the character.
That makes it the best recommendation for the phrase “an immersive sim with better role-playing” when the reader means a game that lets systems, spaces, and character choices interact. It also suits players who enjoyed exploring side paths and testing whether an unusual approach would work instead of following a single intended route.

What does not carry over
Deus Ex is science fiction rather than vampire noir. Its world, conflicts, and tone are not a substitute for feeding, clans, or the personal horror of vampirism. The match is mechanical and structural: first-person perspective, role-playing systems, stealth, exploration, and consequential choice. If the supernatural setting is non-negotiable, move to Bloodlines 2, Swansong, Vampyr, or Redemption.
Who should start here
- Players who valued multiple solutions more than the vampire license.
- Players who want an older immersive sim with a strong role-playing foundation.
- Players who liked discovering how skills and stealth changed the shape of an encounter.
Prey (2017): the strongest modern immersive-sim successor
Why it fits
Prey is the best choice when you want a more modern presentation without giving up systemic problem-solving. Its dense environments, powers, stealth, and multiple solutions answer the same design question that Bloodlines asks: how much freedom can a first-person game give the player inside a carefully authored space?

Approach it as a systems successor rather than a vampire RPG. The appeal is the combination of exploration and experimentation. You are encouraged to examine an environment, understand the tools available to you, and decide whether to bypass, infiltrate, or confront an obstacle. That makes it a particularly good follow-up for readers who describe Bloodlines as “a first-person RPG where the level design is part of the role-playing.”
What does not carry over
Prey uses science-fiction horror instead of urban gothic fiction. Its atmosphere can be unsettling and its spaces reward investigation, but it does not provide World of Darkness politics, vampire clans, or the social consequences of feeding. The emotional texture is therefore different even when the underlying freedom feels familiar.

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2: the closest setting continuation
What it preserves
Choose Bloodlines 2 when the World of Darkness setting matters more than reproducing every feature of the 2004 game. Paradox’s launch announcement describes Phyre, an elder vampire also known as the Nomad, awakening in Seattle in 2024. It identifies releases for PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5, with availability listed through Steam, GOG, the Epic Games Store, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5.
That makes it the clearest answer to “What should I play after Bloodlines?” when the question really means “What is the modern, first-person vampire role-playing game set in the same broad universe?” You get continuity of setting and lore rather than a merely adjacent gothic mood.
Set expectations correctly
Bloodlines 2 is a new production, not a restoration of Troika’s exact design. Treat its connection to the original as a setting and premise continuation, not a promise that every system, quest structure, or neighborhood will work the same way. Players seeking the original’s specific immersive-sim texture should try Deus Ex or Prey as well.

Who should start here

- Players who want a modern first-person vampire RPG on current consoles or PC.
- Players willing to experience a new interpretation rather than a remaster of the original formula.
Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong: lore, investigation, and dialogue first
Why it fits
Swansong is the right recommendation for readers who remember Bloodlines for its conversations, factions, investigations, and the feeling that vampire society has rules worth learning. GOG’s vampire catalogue lists it alongside other World of Darkness titles, making it a setting-focused follow-up rather than a generic supernatural game.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Its priority is dialogue-heavy role-playing. If you want vampire politics, narrative decisions, and investigation more than first-person combat, it targets the part of Bloodlines that action-oriented recommendations miss. It is especially suitable for someone asking for “another vampire RPG with choices” but who is comfortable with a more conversation-centered structure.
What changes
Do not select Swansong expecting the same immersive-sim traversal or first-person action loop. Its value is in lore, character decisions, and investigation rather than in reproducing the original game’s free movement through systemic spaces. Verify the current platform and edition before following a retailer listing, because the available catalogue and editions can change.
Who should start here
- Players who prioritize World of Darkness lore and vampire politics.
- Players who want narrative decisions and investigation ahead of combat.
- Players who can accept a different structure from Bloodlines’ first-person sandbox.
Vampyr: vampire identity and moral pressure
Why it fits
Vampyr is a strong choice when the central attraction is inhabiting a vampire and deciding what that identity demands. GOG’s vampire catalogue lists it as a vampire game, and its appeal for a Bloodlines player is clear: feeding, morality, investigation, and the tension between personal needs and the harm those needs can cause.
This is the recommendation for the reader who asks, “Which game lets me weigh the consequences of feeding?” It treats vampirism as a moral and investigative problem rather than merely a set of combat abilities. That gives it a thematic connection to Bloodlines even when the moment-to-moment structure differs.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
What changes
Vampyr is an action RPG, not the same kind of first-person immersive sim. Its structure does not aim to reproduce Bloodlines’ combination of open-ended traversal, stealth, and systemic problem-solving. Choose it for vampire identity and moral pressure, not as a one-for-one mechanical replacement.
Who should start here
- Players who want feeding and morality to remain central decisions.
- Players who enjoy investigation wrapped in an action-RPG framework.
- Players for whom the vampire perspective matters more than first-person exploration.
Vampire: The Masquerade – Redemption: an older, more linear World of Darkness option
Why it fits
Redemption is worth choosing when your priority is historical World of Darkness context rather than a modern imitation of Bloodlines. GOG lists it in its vampire catalogue, and its place in the series makes it a useful lore-oriented follow-up for players who want to see an earlier interpretation of the setting.
It can also answer the narrower question “What other licensed vampire RPG exists?” without pretending that every licensed title follows the same design. Its value is archival and setting-focused: you are exploring an older approach to vampire role-playing, not seeking the same neighborhood-scale sandbox.
What changes
Redemption has an earlier, more linear action-RPG structure. That difference should be stated plainly because a player expecting Bloodlines’ first-person freedom may otherwise interpret the game’s design as a defect rather than a product of its era and approach. Select it for lore and historical interest, not for immersive-sim traversal.

Choose by the part of Bloodlines you miss most
If you miss solving problems several ways
Start with Deus Ex. It is the closest structural match for a first-person RPG in which skills, stealth, exploration, and player decisions shape encounters. Follow it with Prey if you want a more modern immersive-sim presentation built around dense spaces and powers.
Best Value
- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
If you miss exploring dense spaces
Choose Prey. Its strength is the relationship between environment, abilities, stealth, and alternate solutions. It is not a vampire game, but it best preserves the feeling that the space itself is part of the puzzle.
If you miss the World of Darkness
Choose Bloodlines 2 for the modern first-person continuation, or Swansong if your priority is dialogue, investigation, and vampire politics. The first is closer in viewpoint and premise; the second is closer in narrative emphasis.
If you miss the moral cost of being a vampire
Choose Vampyr. Its recommendation rests on vampire identity, feeding, morality, and investigation rather than on matching the original’s immersive-sim structure.
If you want a historical licensed follow-up
Choose Redemption. Its older, linear action-RPG form is part of what you are selecting, so it is best approached as a setting and history experience.
Replaying Bloodlines on a modern PC
If you are returning to the original before trying a follow-up, check the current PC distribution rather than assuming that an old disc or an untouched installation is your only option. GOG says its Bloodlines release includes third-party technical fixes for modern systems and an offline installer. The listing also describes an unofficial patch as addressing serious original problems.
That does not guarantee identical performance on every computer, and it is not a reason to promise compatibility beyond the information provided by the store or the community support attached to that build. It does mean that a new purchase is not automatically required simply because the original release was technically troubled. Compare the maintained GOG build or equivalent community-supported installation with the copy you already own before deciding how to replay it.
A practical order for playing the recommendations
- Play Deus Ex first if your priority is role-playing systems, stealth, exploration, and choice.
- Move to Prey if you want those immersive-sim ideas in a more modern presentation with dense environments and powers.
- Choose Bloodlines 2 when you are ready to return to a modern World of Darkness vampire premise on PC or current consoles.
- Play Swansong if conversations, investigation, and vampire politics are more important than action.
- Play Vampyr if your main question is how feeding and morality shape life as a vampire.
- Save Redemption for a lore-focused or historical run when you are comfortable with an earlier, more linear action-RPG structure.
This order is optional rather than a quality ranking. It moves from the closest mechanical successors to the closest setting successors, then to the older historical option. Reverse it if the license matters more to you than the immersive-sim design.
Bottom line
Deus Ex is the safest first recommendation for the overall Bloodlines feeling because it preserves first-person role-playing, stealth, exploration, and choice. Prey is the better pick for a modern immersive-sim successor. Bloodlines 2 is the answer for World of Darkness continuity, Swansong for dialogue and politics, Vampyr for feeding and moral pressure, and Redemption for an older, more linear lore experience. Pick the axis you want to keep; none of these games duplicates every part of the original.
