Choose the HyperX Cloud III if its current U.S. price is $80 or less; for wireless, consider the Corsair HS35 v3 Wireless at a price seen of $79.99, or the lighter Logitech G435 when discounted. Prices below are observed U.S. prices from August 16–18, 2026, not guaranteed current prices. They are before tax and shipping; at $79.99, tax alone can put a purchase over an $80 checkout budget.

| Logitech G435 Lightspeed | Light wireless use | 2.4GHz USB-A receiver / Bluetooth | Discount-dependent; a current price was not established | Built-in microphones rather than a boom |

| FiiO FG3 | Audio-focused wired alternative | Wired | $69 reported by Tom’s Guide | Less established gaming-headset track record |
Best overall wired: HyperX Cloud III, if it is still $80 or less
Tom’s Hardware’s current gaming-headset coverage positions the Cloud III as a wired choice with USB-C and 3.5mm connectivity, comfort and a boom microphone. That combination makes it a sensible default for someone who wants a conventional headset without battery upkeep. It is not wireless, and USB features may not be available on every console; check which connection the intended device supports. Its price varies by retailer, color and promotion, so it qualifies only when the particular version you can buy is within the limit. Tom’s Hardware’s Cloud III and gaming-headset coverage
Best wireless: choose between the Corsair HS35 v3 Wireless and Logitech G435
Corsair HS35 v3 Wireless: more connection options
Corsair listed this model at $79.99 on its U.S. store. It supports 2.4GHz wireless, Bluetooth and wired use, giving it more fallback options than a wireless-only headset. Corsair rates battery life at up to 30 hours at 50% volume; that is a manufacturer maximum under the stated condition, not a guaranteed runtime. Dolby Atmos is described for PC with the Dolby Access app. Do not assume its wireless mode works with every Xbox, PlayStation or Switch configuration: confirm support for the exact model and connection method. Because it sits at the ceiling, tax and shipping can exceed a strict $80 total. Corsair HS35 v3 Wireless specifications and U.S. listing

Logitech G435 Lightspeed: lighter, but not a boom-mic pick
The G435 uses a USB-A Lightspeed receiver and also supports Bluetooth. SoundGuys reports compatibility with PS4/PS5, docked Nintendo Switch and PC, and reports exceeding Logitech’s stated 18-hour battery figure in its own testing. That is one reviewer’s result, not a promise for every user or connection. Its built-in beamforming microphones are not a conventional boom mic, making it a weaker fit for buyers whose priority is clear, close-mic voice chat. Its fit is also less universal for larger heads; treat head shape and comfort as real selection criteria, not a conclusion you can draw from its low weight alone. A USB-A receiver may need an adapter with newer devices. SoundGuys’ Logitech G435 review and SoundGuys’ broader gaming-headset guide
Best for wired FPS-style play: Razer BlackShark V2 X or Arctis Nova 1
Razer BlackShark V2 X: conventional boom mic and simple analog connection
Razer’s launch announcement lists a 240g weight, 50mm drivers, a cardioid microphone and a single 3.5mm connection for the BlackShark V2 X. Those specifications and its esports-oriented design make it a straightforward option for players who want a light, wired headset with a traditional mic. The $59.99 figure is its launch MSRP, not a verified current selling price. The original V2 X is not the newer BlackShark V3. A single analog plug also means no included USB sound card or wireless mode. Do not treat virtual-surround software as proof of better positional accuracy. Razer’s BlackShark V2 launch announcement

- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
SteelSeries Arctis Nova 1: lightweight analog, without digital extras
Tom’s Hardware describes the Nova 1 as a roughly $60, analog-only wired headset with a retractable boom microphone. It suits players who want a simple 3.5mm option for a controller, laptop or PC, and do not need wireless, Bluetooth or USB processing. A PC with separate headphone and microphone jacks may require a TRRS splitter. The cited coverage notes that it may not have the low-end impact of bassier alternatives, which can matter more for cinematic play than for every competitive game. Tom’s Hardware’s Arctis Nova 1 coverage
Best simple multiplatform value: Corsair HS35 v3 Wired
Corsair listed the HS35 v3 Wired at $49.99 on its U.S. store. It uses a 3.5mm connection and Corsair lists PC, Mac, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch and other systems as compatible. The Xbox Series X|S path Corsair explicitly describes is connection to the controller’s 3.5mm port. It includes a boom microphone, earcup controls and 50mm neodymium drivers, but those driver dimensions do not establish sound quality by themselves. As an entry-level analog headset, its performance also depends in part on the source device. Corsair says its gaming headsets have a minimum two-year limited warranty when bought from Corsair or an authorized reseller; that policy should not be assumed for other brands or unauthorized sellers. Best for PC surround option: Corsair HS35 Surround v2
The HS35 Surround v2 combines a 3.5mm connection with a USB adapter that enables Dolby 7.1 on PC and Mac, while retaining analog compatibility for consoles. Corsair showed a $49.99 sale price on one page and $59.99 elsewhere, so treat the lower figure as temporary rather than the normal price. Virtual 7.1 is processing, not multiple physical speakers, and it is not automatically more accurate or more useful than stereo or a console’s own spatial audio. This is a reason to consider the model only if you want the option—not a reason to pay extra on its own. Corsair HS35 Surround v2 product page
Other options worth considering
FiiO FG3: wired and audio-focused
Tom’s Guide reported a $69 price and a wired design, with support listed for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PC, macOS, iOS and Android. It may suit someone who prefers an audio-focused brand and a less overtly gaming-oriented product. Its gaming-headset history is less established than HyperX, SteelSeries, Razer or Corsair, and the cited price and compatibility listing do not by themselves establish microphone or console-chat performance. Confirm those details for your setup before buying. Tom’s Guide’s FiiO FG3 review

Turtle Beach Stealth 500: only if the sale and platform version work
Comparison coverage lists the Stealth 500 at about $69.99 on sale against a $89.99 regular price. It therefore qualifies only during a discount, and support depends on the exact platform version. Compare its microphone and battery trade-offs with the HS35 v3 Wireless rather than assuming a sale makes it the better wireless buy. Tony Reviews Things’ headset comparison
Choose for your platform before you choose for sound
PC
- Check whether you want USB or 3.5mm. A single 3.5mm headset plug may need a splitter if your desktop has separate headphone and microphone jacks.
- Check whether features such as EQ, sidetone or surround processing require Windows software; they may not carry over to consoles.
- Bluetooth is convenient for general use, but should not be your default competitive-gaming connection if latency matters.
PlayStation 5 and PS4
- A headset may connect by 3.5mm through the controller or by a compatible USB receiver. Check the model’s supported connection rather than relying on a broad “multiplatform” label.
- Bluetooth support for phones does not establish Bluetooth gaming support on PlayStation. A headset may use its dongle for console audio.
- Compatible headsets can receive the console’s Tempest 3D AudioTech processing through ordinary system audio; do not assume proprietary headset processing unless the maker says so.
Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One
- A universal 3.5mm headset plugged into the Xbox controller is usually the lower-risk option.
- USB wireless support depends on Xbox certification and the exact headset version. A PC- or PlayStation-oriented wireless model is not automatically wireless-compatible with Xbox.
- For the HS35 v3 Wired, Corsair specifically describes controller-connected 3.5mm use on Xbox Series X|S.
Nintendo Switch and Switch 2
- In handheld mode, 3.5mm is the simplest connection. Docked USB or a wireless receiver may work, but support varies by model.
- Bluetooth microphone support can be inconsistent across games and configurations. The G435’s reported Switch compatibility is for docked use; do not assume that means its microphone works in every game.
- Do not extend a Switch compatibility claim to Switch 2 unless the manufacturer or a cited review explicitly confirms that model.
Phones and tablets
- Bluetooth is generally the most convenient option, but gaming latency varies.
- A 3.5mm headset needs a device jack or adapter; USB-C headsets may not work with every phone or tablet.
Wired or wireless: what the trade actually is
| Connection | Advantages | Costs and checks |
|---|---|---|
| Wired 3.5mm | No battery to maintain; broad controller compatibility; often strong value for sound and microphone | Cable drag and wear; analog quality depends partly on the device; a PC splitter may be needed |
| Wired USB | Can provide digital audio and software features on supported devices | May not work directly with every console; check port, adapter and feature support |
| 2.4GHz wireless | Freedom from cable drag; generally the more appropriate wireless link for gaming than Bluetooth | May require a dongle; console compatibility can be model-specific; battery and charging-port failure matter |
| Bluetooth | Convenient for phones, tablets and music | Latency and microphone quality can be compromises; console support is not universal |
At this price, wired models usually devote more of the cost to the headset itself, while wireless models also pay for radio hardware, batteries, charging and dongles. Wireless models with a wired fallback reduce—but do not remove—the risk that a battery or charging port failure will shorten the headset’s useful life.

What matters most in a budget headset
Microphone for chat
A boom mic sits closer to the mouth and is often the safer choice for regular multiplayer chat; the G435’s earcup microphones are a different compromise. Look for practical controls such as mute and mic monitoring if you need them. “Noise-canceling microphone” generally refers to handling background sound picked up by the mic, not active noise cancellation for your ears.
Comfort and fit
Weight is only one factor. Clamp pressure, headband support, ear-cup depth and material, heat, and glasses all affect comfort over a long session. A headset that is light but fits poorly is not a good match. Since fit is personal and detailed dimensions are not established for every pick here, check the return policy when possible, especially if you wear glasses or have a larger head.
Sound and spatial audio
- For competitive play, prioritize clear detail and controlled bass rather than a promise that a headset will reveal footsteps through walls.
- For single-player games, bass and cinematic presentation may matter more. For chat, speech clarity and the microphone may matter more than surround branding.
- “7.1” is often virtual processing, not separate physical speakers. Dolby Atmos can require software and may be limited to a platform, as with Corsair’s PC-only description for the HS35 v3 Wireless.
- PlayStation Tempest 3D is console processing. Stereo, console spatial audio and headset software can sound different; spatial audio is not a substitute for good tuning or fit.
Durability and ownership cost
Check whether the cable or ear pads are replaceable, whether a wireless headset has a wired mode, and whether replacement dongles are available. Include any required splitter or USB adapter, console-specific version premium, paid software, shipping and tax in the real cost. Marketing figures such as driver diameter, frequency range, “esports-grade” and unqualified battery life do not independently prove sound quality, comfort or durability.
How these picks were selected
The recommendations compare manufacturer specifications, U.S. prices observed August 16–18, 2026, and independent testing or review coverage where available. Prices and stock can change; launch MSRP, sale prices and manufacturer maximum battery claims are labeled as such.
