Its mid-range weapons and bonus damage while in cover support a straightforward approach, while its Sonic Disruptor can stun Drones and interrupt other enemies. If you would rather keep teammates alive, choose Medic: its Stim Vaporizer heals and revives nearby Gears.
These are role-based suggestions, not an official ranking or a tested measure of which class is easiest. E-Day’s four-class system applies to Horde Siege PvE; Campaign and Versus are separate modes. The Coalition says there is no required squad setup, so your preferred range and team responsibility matter more than picking a supposedly “best” class.
Which E-Day class should a beginner choose?
Start with Assault if you want to fight at mid-range and learn to use cover while contributing direct damage. Choose Medic instead if supporting the squad sounds more appealing than focusing on damage. Both have clear roles that a new player can build around.
The other options are more specialized: Breacher is built for close-range pushes, while Marksman focuses on precision fire at longer sightlines. The Coalition’s official Multiplayer Deep Dive describes the classes and their abilities, but does not publish a beginner ranking, difficulty scores, or class win rates.

Compare the four Horde Siege classes
| Class | Role and ability | Beginner fit |
|---|---|---|
| Assault | Flexible mid-range weapons; deals increased damage while in cover. Its Sonic Disruptor stuns Drones and disrupts other enemies. | A practical all-purpose starting point if you want a direct combat role and are willing to fight from cover. This is an inference from the described role, not a measured ease rating. |
| Medic | A mid-range revive specialist. Its Stim Vaporizer heals and revives nearby Gears, including downed soldiers from other squads; the class also has faster health regeneration. | A good choice if you enjoy supporting teammates and paying attention to who needs help. Place the ability where nearby allies can benefit. |
| Breacher | Close-range damage and frontline pushes. Its Adrenaline Injector restores health and reduces incoming damage while active; the class also has improved resistance to status and melee damage. | Choose it if you want to get into close combat. Its aggressive role makes it a less conservative first suggestion. |
| Marksman | Precision fire against high-value targets at longer sightlines. Its Pulse Drone tags enemies for the squad, and the class has increased critical damage. | A fit for players comfortable aiming accurately and holding a backline position; less suited to a general recommendation for someone still learning aim. |
The class descriptions come from The Coalition; the beginner-fit column is editorial interpretation, not developer advice or player testing.
How to decide between them
- Pick Assault for a flexible mid-range role, cover-based damage, and an ability that interrupts enemies.
- Pick Medic if you want to heal and revive nearby teammates.
- Pick Breacher if you actively want close-range fights and frontline pushes.
- Pick Marksman if precision shots and longer sightlines suit you.
Think about range, positioning, and what you want to do for the squad. The Coalition says classes are meant to complement one another, but “there is no ‘right’ way to set up a squad.” Try a class that suits your instincts, then adjust with your squad as you learn.

What beginners should learn alongside their class
Use cover and practice movement
Cover is central to combat across Campaign, Horde, and Versus, according to The Coalition’s E-Day Gameplay Updates. For Assault, it also connects directly to the class’s damage bonus. Whatever class you choose, practice reading the combat space and moving from cover to cover; the developer says onboarding options are available to learn and practice movement.
Match difficulty to class progression
The Coalition’s difficulty guidance is tied to class levels, not labeled as a beginner setting: Infantry is recommended for class levels 10–20, Commander for levels 20–30, and Allfather for max-level classes. Follow that progression guidance rather than treating the labels as a universal measure of player skill.

Know what mission completion means for Weapon Parts
Horde Siege combines objectives, squad decisions, and extraction. Weapon Parts collected during a mission are kept only if the squad successfully extracts and completes it, so extraction is part of securing that mission’s collected parts.
Expect more options as a class levels up
At launch, each class has 30 progression levels that unlock weapons, gear, and mods. Unlocking a weapon mod is not the same as obtaining it: mods must also be purchased with Weapon Parts. These are progression specifications from The Coalition’s Multiplayer Deep Dive.

Which mode uses these classes?
Assault, Breacher, Marksman, and Medic are the four classes announced for Horde Siege, a cooperative PvE mode. Xbox Wire describes Horde Siege as a four-player squad experience in its June 2026 overview. Do not assume that this class selection applies to Campaign or Versus.
As of October 4, 2026, the official Xbox product page lists the game’s release date as October 6, with Premium Edition Early Access beginning October 1. Availability varies by platform and edition; check the live listing for current access details.
