The official minimum GPU for The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria is a GeForce GTX 1060; the recommended GPU is an RTX 2060. Those are compatibility targets, not promises of a particular frame rate, resolution, or graphics preset. If you already own one of these cards, try it before upgrading. For a new 1080p build, compare the RTX 5060 with the Radeon RX 9060 XT 16GB; consider an RTX 5070 or RX 9070 XT only if you also want stronger performance across a broader 1440p game library.
Official system requirements
The game released on Steam on August 27, 2024. Its published PC requirements specify a GTX 1060 at minimum and an RTX 2060 as recommended. The listings do not name a resolution, graphics preset, or target frame rate, so “recommended” should not be read as a guarantee of 1080p at 60 frames per second.
| Requirement | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| GPU | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060; VRAM version not specified | NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 |
| CPU | Intel Core i5, four cores or better | Intel Core i7, six cores or better |
| Memory | 8GB RAM | 16GB RAM |
| Operating system | Windows 10/11 64-bit | Windows 10/11 64-bit |
| DirectX | Version 12 | Version 12 |
| Storage | 20GB available | 20GB available; SSD recommended |
These requirements are listed by the Steam store page and Epic Games Store. The GTX 1060 entry does not distinguish the 3GB and 6GB versions, so a used-card buyer should favor the 6GB model where possible without assuming that the listing explicitly requires it.
Best GPU choices by situation

| Situation | GPU choice | Why it fits |
|---|---|---|
| Already own a GTX 1060 | Try it first | It meets the published minimum. Adjust settings if your experience is unsatisfactory. |
| Want the official recommended baseline | GeForce RTX 2060 | It is the card named in the recommended specification; a used one makes more sense than treating it as a default new purchase. |
| Buying a used card on a tight budget | RTX 2060, Radeon RX 5600 XT, or RX 6600-class card | Compare condition and price. AMD models are alternatives by general hardware class, not game-tested substitutes. |
| New 1080p-focused build | GeForce RTX 5060 or Radeon RX 9060 XT 16GB | Both are newer choices than the RTX 2060. The 16GB Radeon offers more memory capacity; the RTX 5060 is an NVIDIA option with 8GB. |
| 1440p across many current games | GeForce RTX 5070 or Radeon RX 9070 XT | These are broader gaming upgrades, not necessary purchases for this game alone. |
| Play only Return to Moria at 1080p | Do not buy a high-end card solely for this title | The published recommendation is an RTX 2060, not a 1440p-class high-end GPU. |
New budget cards: RTX 5060 and RX 9060 XT
NVIDIA announced the desktop RTX 5060 from $299 at launch. That is a launch price signal, not a guarantee of current retail price or stock. NVIDIA describes it as an entry-level RTX 50-series desktop card and lists DLSS 4 support at the product-family level; that does not establish that Return to Moria supports DLSS or frame generation. The RTX 5060 has 8GB of VRAM, which may be enough for this game but provides less capacity headroom than a 16GB option. See NVIDIA’s RTX 5060 announcement.
AMD lists the RX 9060 XT in both 8GB and 16GB versions. If prices are competitive, the 16GB model is the more attractive option for buyers who value additional memory capacity for textures and other future games. More VRAM by itself does not guarantee higher frame rates. Check the exact card’s price, cooler, dimensions, power connectors, and warranty. AMD’s graphics specifications list both versions; its RX 9060 XT product page is for the 8GB model.

Higher-tier 1440p options: RTX 5070 and RX 9070 XT
NVIDIA’s marketplace listed the RTX 5070 at $549, with the listing observed for this article marked out of stock; treat that figure as a listing price rather than a promise of availability. The card has 12GB of GDDR7 memory. It is a reasonable broader-library choice for someone with a 1440p high-refresh display, but excessive if the only goal is playing this game at 1080p. Check NVIDIA’s marketplace listing for current status.
AMD lists the RX 9070 XT with 16GB of GDDR6 memory, 304W board power, and a recommended 750W power supply. It is a high-performance option for a wider 1440p library, but its power demand, system cost, and cooling needs make it a poor-value upgrade if this is the only game you play. The 750W guidance is AMD’s system recommendation for the card, not a requirement of Return to Moria. Consult the RX 9070 XT specifications.

RTX 5060 Ti configurations
NVIDIA’s launch information listed the RTX 5060 Ti at $379 for 8GB and $429 for 16GB. Those are launch price signals, not current street prices. The 16GB model offers more VRAM headroom, but the game’s requirements do not establish that 16GB is necessary. Compare actual prices with the RX 9060 XT 16GB and faster alternatives rather than paying extra solely to meet this title’s recommended specification. Details are in NVIDIA’s RTX 5060 family announcement.
What to expect at 1080p, 1440p, and 4K
Official requirements tell you which hardware the developer lists, not how a card performs at a chosen resolution or preset. No reliable game-specific benchmark table is established here, so exact FPS claims would be misleading.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
- 1080p: The GTX 1060 is the listed minimum and the RTX 2060 the recommendation. If you already own a GTX 1060, try it rather than assuming an upgrade is mandatory; reduce settings if performance is poor.
- 1440p: The requirements do not define a 1440p target. A newer mid-range card such as an RTX 5060 Ti or RX 9060 XT 16GB may be more appropriate depending on settings and the rest of your library; an RTX 5070 or RX 9070 XT makes more sense when you want broader headroom across games.
- 4K: The published requirements do not establish 4K performance. Do not buy a card on the assumption that the game will hit a particular frame rate or that a specific upscaling technology is supported; check the current game version and seek testing for your intended settings.
Is a GTX 1060 or RTX 2060 still worth buying?
If you already own a GTX 1060
It is explicitly listed as the minimum, so it is reasonable to test your existing card before upgrading. The listing does not specify its VRAM variant or promise a particular experience. If you have the 3GB model, be more cautious about texture settings and memory headroom than you would with a 6GB card.
If you are shopping used
The RTX 2060 is the official recommended baseline and can be a sensible used purchase when it is cheap, in good condition, and paired with a balanced PC. RX 5600 XT and RX 6600-class cards are potential alternatives by general class, not official requirements or proven game-specific equivalents. Compare the asking price with newer cards; age, lower efficiency, warranty, and condition can outweigh an attractive sticker price.

- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
Before buying a used GPU, inspect it under load where possible. Check for artifacts, unusual fan noise, excessive temperatures, missing accessories, and warranty coverage; confirm that your power supply has the required connectors. A seller’s claim about mining history is not a substitute for checking the card’s condition.
If you are buying new
An RTX 2060 is usually a weak default for a new build when newer cards such as the RTX 5060 or RX 9060 XT are available at competitive prices. Choose it only if its price and condition make sense for your needs, especially if this is the primary game you intend to play. A new card’s warranty and current features can be more valuable than matching the old recommendation exactly.
How to compare NVIDIA and AMD options
The game’s official requirements name NVIDIA cards, but that does not make NVIDIA the only possible vendor. Without game-specific comparative testing, there is no evidence here to rank NVIDIA and AMD by Return to Moria frame rate. Compare the features that matter to your whole system and game library instead.
- Price and availability: Treat launch MSRPs and official marketplace figures as reference points, not live retailer prices. Check final cost, stock, rebates, shipping, warranty, and the exact model before purchase.
- VRAM: The RTX 5060 has 8GB; the RX 9060 XT comes in 8GB and 16GB versions. The 16GB card offers more capacity headroom, not an automatic FPS advantage.
- Upscaling and frame generation: NVIDIA advertises DLSS 4 for the RTX 5060 family, but support in this game is not established here. Do not buy based on a feature unless the current game version exposes and supports it.
- Power and fit: Compare card power requirements, connector needs, dimensions, cooler thickness, and case airflow. For the RX 9070 XT, AMD specifies 304W board power and recommends a 750W system PSU.
- Other workloads: If you use CUDA applications or value particular vendor software features, include those needs in the decision; this game’s requirements alone do not resolve that comparison.
Check the rest of the PC before upgrading
A GPU cannot compensate for every system bottleneck. The recommended specification calls for a six-core-or-better Intel Core i7, 16GB RAM, DirectX 12, and an SSD recommendation, in addition to the RTX 2060. A graphics card upgrade may not fix stutter or poor frame pacing if the CPU, memory, storage, drivers, or cooling is the limiting factor.
- CPU: A slow or overloaded processor can hold back frame rates, particularly in busy settlements or multiplayer situations. If GPU utilization is low while performance remains poor, investigate CPU load and background tasks.
- Memory: The listed minimum is 8GB RAM and the recommendation is 16GB. Insufficient system memory can cause problems that buying a faster GPU will not solve.
- Storage: The game requires 20GB available and recommends an SSD. Installing on an SSD is the safer choice for asset loading than relying on a hard drive.
- Power and cooling: Confirm PSU quality, capacity, and connectors for the specific card, and check case clearance and airflow. Large, high-power cards may not suit a compact or poorly ventilated case.
- Laptops: A laptop GPU and a desktop GPU with the same model number are not interchangeable performance promises. Laptop power limits vary by exact model, so use the laptop’s GPU power rating and independent tests rather than the name alone.
Troubleshoot poor performance without guessing at settings support
The published system requirements do not document the current graphics-menu labels or establish support for DLSS, FSR, XeSS, ray tracing, or frame generation. Use general diagnostics, and verify any game-specific feature in the current version before relying on it.
Quick Recap
- Install the latest graphics driver from the GPU manufacturer.
- Confirm that the game is using the dedicated GPU rather than integrated graphics.
- Start with the game’s recommended preset, then make changes one at a time.
- If performance is poor, try lowering shadows, volumetric effects, view distance, and resolution scale first; these are general tuning suggestions, not guaranteed menu labels.
- Keep texture settings within the card’s VRAM capacity, especially on an 8GB card.
- Use an SSD, as the store listing recommends.
- Monitor GPU utilization, VRAM use, CPU utilization, temperatures, and frame-time consistency. If the GPU is underused while performance is low, investigate CPU, memory, background tasks, or thermal throttling.
Final buying decision
| Your situation | Practical choice |
|---|---|
| You already own a GTX 1060 | Try it first; it meets the official minimum. |
| You want the named recommended GPU | RTX 2060, especially if you find a well-priced used card. |
| You are building a new 1080p PC | Compare the RTX 5060 with the RX 9060 XT 16GB at current prices. |
| You want 1440p performance across many games | Consider the RTX 5070 or RX 9070 XT, after checking price, power, cooling, and case fit. |
| You play only Return to Moria | A high-end card is not justified by this game’s published requirements alone. |
