For mainstream high-settings 1440p gaming on a tighter budget, the GeForce RTX 5070 is the more sensible buy. The RTX 5070 Ti is the stronger fit for high-refresh 1440p, demanding ray tracing or selected 4K gaming—but only if its price premium is acceptable. In a US price snapshot published October 1, 2026, the Ti listing was especially expensive, so compare live prices rather than relying on launch MSRP.
What separates the RTX 5070 from the RTX 5070 Ti?
The Ti has more listed GPU resources and memory capacity. NVIDIA’s product page lists 8,960 CUDA cores and 16 GB of GDDR7 for the RTX 5070 Ti, compared with 6,144 CUDA cores and 12 GB of GDDR7 for the RTX 5070. Those specifications indicate the Ti’s greater hardware headroom, but they do not establish a fixed performance advantage in every game.
| Specification or price | RTX 5070 | RTX 5070 Ti |
|---|---|---|
| CUDA cores | 6,144 (NVIDIA product page, accessed October 3, 2026) | 8,960 (NVIDIA product page, accessed October 3, 2026) |
| Memory | 12 GB GDDR7 (NVIDIA product page, accessed October 3, 2026) | 16 GB GDDR7 (NVIDIA product page, accessed October 3, 2026) |
| US launch MSRP | $549 (historical launch price, reported by iTechGuides in 2026) | $749 (historical launch price, reported by iTechGuides in 2026) |
| Example US retailer listing | $779 at Walmart (PC Gamer price-watch snapshot published October 1, 2026) | $1,149.99 at Newegg (PC Gamer price-watch snapshot published October 1, 2026) |
| Reported power target | 250W (iTechGuides, 2026; check the exact partner card) | 300W (iTechGuides, 2026; check the exact partner card) |
The listing prices are examples from a dated US snapshot, not current quotes or typical prices. Listings and stock change; check the seller’s live price and terms before buying. The launch MSRPs are historical reference points, not a promise that either card is available at that price.
Which card makes more sense for your games?
Choose the RTX 5070 for mainstream 1440p
If you mainly want high-settings 1440p gaming and are watching your budget, start with the RTX 5070. Its 12 GB of GDDR7 is not evidence of a guaranteed lifespan or a universal limitation: the available sources do not establish what share of games exceed 12 GB or how many years either card will remain suitable. Judge the price of the specific model against the games and settings you actually use.
#1 Best Overall
- Powered by the NVIDIA Blackwell architecture and DLSS 4 OC mode: 2640MHz/Default mode: 2610MHz (Boost Clock)
- Military-grade components deliver rock-solid power and longer lifespan for ultimate durability
- Protective PCB coating helps protect against short circuits caused by moisture, dust, or debris
- 3.125-slot design with massive fin array optimized for airflow from three Axial-tech fans
- Phase-change GPU thermal pad helps ensure optimal thermal performance and longevity, outlasting traditional thermal paste for graphics cards under heavy loads
Choose the RTX 5070 Ti for high-refresh 1440p or heavier ray tracing
The Ti’s higher core count and 16 GB of memory make it the more compelling option when you want additional GPU headroom for high-refresh 1440p or demanding ray tracing. That extra capacity is a useful difference, not a guarantee of a particular frame rate or longer useful life. The price gap matters: a large premium can outweigh the Ti’s advantages for a buyer whose target is ordinary 1440p play.
Consider the Ti for selected 4K use, not as a blanket 4K promise
Tom’s Guide’s 2026 graphics-card roundup describes the RTX 5070 Ti as capable of reaching 60-plus FPS at 4K in some circumstances. That is not a promise for every game, graphics setting or rendering mode. If 4K is your main target, look for benchmarks of the specific games you play and note whether they use upscaling or frame generation.
How should you interpret performance comparisons?
NVIDIA’s product-page comparison graphic is not a like-for-like measure of native rendering. It shows 1440p, maximum-settings comparisons against older RTX cards with DLSS Super Resolution and Ray Reconstruction; the RTX 50-series side uses Multi Frame Generation (4X), while the RTX 40-series side uses Frame Generation. Those features affect displayed performance, so the chart should not be read as a direct estimate of the 5070 Ti’s advantage over the 5070.
The available sources do not establish a transparent, consistent head-to-head benchmark percentage for these two cards. Avoid treating a single uplift figure as universal: results depend on the game, resolution, settings, rendering mode and frame-generation status. For a specific purchase, seek benchmarks that disclose those conditions and compare the exact models where possible.

At launch, the reported US MSRPs were $549 for the RTX 5070 and $749 for the RTX 5070 Ti. Those are historical launch prices. In PC Gamer’s US price-watch snapshot published October 1, 2026, a Walmart RTX 5070 listing was $779 and a Newegg RTX 5070 Ti listing was $1,149.99. At those example prices, the Ti’s premium is substantial; the snapshot is not a substitute for checking current retailer listings.

Price pressure can differ sharply by country. Tom’s Hardware reported on July 27, 2026, that listed prices for selected RTX 5070 Ti models in China were as much as 76% above MSRP in MSI’s published list, while selected Colorful models were about 58.7% above MSRP. Those China-specific examples should not be used to infer US prices.
NVIDIA’s memory-supply comments are also time-specific. In a statement reproduced by Tom’s Guide in an update dated January 15, 2026, the company said: “Demand for GeForce RTX GPUs is strong, and memory supply is constrained. We continue to ship all GeForce SKUs and are working closely with our suppliers to maximize memory availability.” That describes the company’s position at that time; it does not guarantee current stock or production.

The reported reference-level power targets are 250W for the RTX 5070 and 300W for the RTX 5070 Ti, a 50W difference. Board-partner models can vary, so check the specifications for the exact card rather than assuming every model has identical requirements.

- Confirm your power supply meets the card maker’s wattage recommendation and has the required power connector.
- Measure case clearance against the card’s listed length, height and thickness.
- Check that your case airflow and cooling setup are appropriate for the specific model.
- Compare the seller, warranty and return policy along with the price; two cards using the same GPU can differ in dimensions and other board details.
Buying verdict
For high-settings 1440p gaming where price matters most, buy the RTX 5070 if its live price is reasonable. Pay extra for the RTX 5070 Ti when you have a clear reason to use its additional resources—such as a high-refresh 1440p target, demanding ray tracing or selected 4K play—and the actual premium fits your budget. Neither launch MSRP nor a dated listing tells you what a card should cost today.
