There is no confirmed “best” HUMANKIND 2 preset yet. As of October 18, 2026, the game is publicly listed for 2027, but no graphics-menu breakdown, measured frame rates, tested presets, upscaler support, or launch benchmarks have been published. The most reliable approach is to use the published hardware tiers as a starting point, begin at the detected or High preset at native resolution, then tune the most expensive options one at a time when the game ships.
The published target is GTX 960/RX 5500 XT hardware at minimum and GTX 1070/RX 5700 XT hardware at recommended settings. That tells you where to start, not what resolution, frame rate, or preset the game will actually sustain.

What is known about HUMANKIND 2’s PC graphics
The current listing, attributed to AMPLITUDE Studios and dated 2026, identifies HUMANKIND 2 as a 2027 release with enhanced visuals and a modernized user interface. It does not publish the names of individual graphics options, a preset comparison, a target resolution, an official frame-rate target, or benchmark results.

That distinction matters. A “best settings” guide can give you a launch-day method and sensible hardware decisions, but it cannot honestly promise 1080p/60 FPS, 1440p performance, 4K support, or a winning High-versus-Ultra configuration before independent testing exists.

Published minimum and recommended requirements
Use the following specifications as the only confirmed baseline. The minimum and recommended columns are separate published tiers, not measured performance guarantees.
| Component | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 10 64-bit | Windows 11 64-bit |
| Processor | Intel Core i5-4430 or AMD FX-8350 | Intel Core i7-6700 or AMD Ryzen 5 1500X |
| System memory | 8 GB RAM | 12 GB RAM |
| Graphics card | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 (4 GB) or AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT (8 GB) | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 (8 GB) or AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT (8 GB) |
| Graphics API | DirectX 11 | DirectX 12 |
| Storage | 20 GB | 20 GB |
The listing does not state whether the 20 GB figure includes patches, downloadable content, shader caches, or free-space headroom. Treat it as the published installation requirement and leave additional room for updates rather than filling a drive to its limit.
What “best settings” means before launch
Until the game is available to test, “best” should mean the most stable image quality your system can sustain in the heaviest situations—not the highest preset shown in a menu. In a large turn-based strategy game, a profile that looks smooth in the opening turns can become unsuitable on a dense map or in a late-era save.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute- Image-quality priority: Keep native resolution and the highest stable texture or material quality available, then reduce costly effects if frame times are uneven.
- Consistency priority: Choose a frame-time target that fits your monitor. The published information gives no official FPS target, so 30, 60, or another limit is a personal choice rather than a HUMANKIND 2 specification.
- Simulation priority: Test both camera movement and turn processing. A graphics setting can improve rendering without changing the time the game spends calculating turns.
- Safety priority: Keep a lower profile ready if your hardware is close to the GTX 960/RX 5500 XT minimum tier.
Launch-day setup procedure
Follow this sequence when the PC version is available. It deliberately avoids claiming that any particular preset has already been tested.
- Confirm the platform baseline. Check that Windows, your graphics driver, and DirectX installation meet the tier you are targeting. Windows 10 64-bit and DirectX 11 are the published minimums; Windows 11 64-bit and DirectX 12 are the recommended targets.
- Start at the monitor’s native resolution. Do not lower resolution before you know whether the GPU is the limiting part. Native output gives you a clean reference for image quality. The listing does not identify a preferred resolution.
- Use the detected or High preset first. Allow the game to choose a detected configuration, or select High if that option exists. This is a starting point, not a confirmed HUMANKIND 2 recommendation.
- Choose a frame-time target. Use a cap or synchronization mode appropriate to your display if the game exposes one. Because no official target is published, record the target you choose instead of describing it as the game’s requirement.
- Build a repeatable test. Observe camera movement, zooming, map panning, a busy settlement or battle view, and the end-turn transition. Use the same save and camera locations after each change so comparisons are meaningful.
- Lower one expensive option at a time. If performance is unstable, begin with shadows, volumetric effects, reflections, and view distance—the categories that are generally costly on PC. Change one setting, repeat the same test, and keep the change only if frame-time consistency improves without an unacceptable image-quality loss.
- Check a demanding save. Re-test a late-game turn and a dense map before calling the profile “best.” No public HUMANKIND 2 benchmark covers those cases, so an opening-era result is not enough evidence.
- Save two profiles. Keep a quality-oriented profile for systems near the recommended GTX 1070/RX 5700 XT tier and a conservative profile for hardware near minimum. The game’s final menu names and preset behavior may differ from this method.
Which settings to adjust first
The following order is a practical PC-tuning workflow, not a list of measured HUMANKIND 2 costs. The final game may expose different labels or combine several effects into one control.

- QHD Resolution (2560 x 1440) has 1.7 times the pixel density of Full HD for incredibly detailed pinsharp images
- HDR10 provides brighter highlights and nuanced shadow for added depth - making every scene feel more vivid and realistic
- The 180Hz refresh rate minimizes lag for gameplay with ultra-smooth action. Plus, the 1ms response time helps capture your moves in real-time, allowing you to react fast for gaming precision
- AMD FreeSync reduces choppiness, screen lag and image tearing, ensuring that your fast-paced, complex in-game action is stable with minimal stutter
- Ergonomic stand allows for tilt, pivot and height adjustments to maximize gaming comfort
Shadows
Shadow quality commonly has a large GPU cost, especially when the camera sees many objects. If the game offers Low, Medium, High, and Ultra shadow levels, step down one level before reducing resolution. Watch for softened contact shadows or less detailed terrain shading; those changes are usually easier to accept than a permanently blurry image.
Volumetric effects
Fog, clouds, god rays, and other volumetric effects can consume GPU time at large view distances. If frame times spike while rotating or zooming the camera, reduce this category before changing the entire preset. This is a general tuning priority; HUMANKIND 2’s exact volumetric controls have not been published.
Reflections
Reflections can be expensive when water, polished surfaces, or many moving objects are visible. Lower the reflection quality or disable optional screen-space effects if the game provides those controls. Verify the result in scenes containing water rather than judging only from a dry land map.
View distance and level of detail
Longer view distance keeps more terrain and objects detailed, but it can increase both rendering work and memory use. Reduce it gradually if panning across a large empire causes uneven frame times. Keep enough distance to read strategic information comfortably; a very low value can make the map harder to interpret even when the frame rate improves.
Textures and materials
Texture quality is often less expensive than shadows when the graphics card has sufficient VRAM, but that is not confirmed for HUMANKIND 2. If the game reports VRAM use or texture streaming warnings, reduce texture quality before lowering every other option. The published cards range from 4 GB at minimum to 8 GB at recommended, so do not treat 8 GB as a universal requirement until the shipping build provides measurements.

Anti-aliasing and post-processing
These controls can change edge clarity, sharpening, bloom, depth of field, and motion effects. Because the listing does not identify the available techniques or any upscaler, make changes only after recording the native-resolution baseline. Disable cosmetic effects that reduce readability, but do not assume an upscaler is supported or that one mode is superior.
Suggested starting profiles by hardware tier
These are launch-day starting points derived from the published requirements and the tuning order above. They are not tested presets.
| Hardware position | Starting point | First changes if unstable |
|---|---|---|
| Near minimum: GTX 960 4 GB or RX 5500 XT 8 GB, 8 GB RAM | Detected or Low-to-Medium profile at native resolution; use a conservative frame-time target. | Lower shadows, volumetrics, reflections, and view distance one at a time; keep a lower-resolution fallback only if those changes are insufficient. |
| Between minimum and recommended, such as a GTX 1060-class system | Begin with the detected or High profile, but expect to test more aggressively than a recommended-tier PC. | Reduce the expensive effects in the published priority order and check VRAM behavior if the game reports it. |
| Recommended: GTX 1070 8 GB or RX 5700 XT 8 GB, 12 GB RAM | Begin at High and native resolution, then test dense maps and late-game turns before raising individual options. | Lower shadows or volumetrics first; retain native resolution if image clarity is more important than peak frame rate. |
The table does not establish a guaranteed FPS or resolution for any tier. It simply maps the published hardware brackets to a cautious setup workflow.
Can a GTX 1060 run HUMANKIND 2?
The published minimum GPU is a GTX 960, while the recommended GPU is a GTX 1070 with 8 GB of VRAM. A GTX 1060 therefore sits between the named tiers, but the available information does not establish whether it will deliver a particular resolution, preset, or frame rate. The answer is “possibly, depending on the model and the final build,” not a promise of 1080p/60 FPS.
Check the exact GTX 1060 variant and its VRAM, then use the minimum-to-recommended workflow: start conservatively, lower shadows and other expensive effects first, and test a dense late-game save. Do not infer performance from the card name alone.

Can a GTX 1070 run HUMANKIND 2?
A GTX 1070 with 8 GB of VRAM is explicitly listed in the recommended tier. That makes it the clearest hardware starting point for a quality-oriented profile, alongside 12 GB of system memory, Windows 11 64-bit, and DirectX 12. It still does not guarantee Ultra settings, a particular resolution, or a measured frame rate because none of those outcomes has been published.
How much RAM and VRAM do you need?
System RAM
The minimum listing specifies 8 GB of RAM; the recommended listing specifies 12 GB. Use 12 GB as the practical target when buying or upgrading for the recommended tier. The figures describe system memory, not graphics-card memory, and they do not include an extra amount for future patches.
Graphics memory
The named minimum GPU options carry 4 GB and 8 GB respectively, while both recommended options carry 8 GB. This establishes the memory capacities of the listed cards, not a separately published HUMANKIND 2 VRAM requirement. If the game exposes a VRAM meter or texture-streaming warnings, use those in-game signals to decide whether to reduce texture quality.

For the minimum tier, the listing names Windows 10 64-bit and DirectX 11. For the recommended tier, it names Windows 11 64-bit and DirectX 12. If the finished game offers an API selector, begin with the API that matches your system tier and only test another option when the game’s own documentation supports it; do not assume that DirectX 12 is automatically faster on every PC.

Diagnosing performance problems
Frame rate is low everywhere
Lower shadows, volumetric effects, reflections, and view distance in sequence. If the image remains too slow, test a lower resolution or a lower overall preset. Record each change so you can restore the last acceptable image.
Camera movement stutters
Check whether the problem appears while panning across a dense map or only during a particular effect. Reduce view distance and volumetrics first, then inspect texture or VRAM warnings if the game provides them. A frame-time problem is not always solved by lowering every setting equally.
Turn processing takes too long
Rendering settings may not change simulation time. Compare the end-turn transition in an early save and a late, crowded save. If the delay grows while camera movement remains smooth, the limitation may be CPU or simulation workload rather than GPU quality. The published CPU tiers identify an older i5-4430/FX-8350 minimum and i7-6700/Ryzen 5 1500X recommendation, but no turn-time benchmark is available.

Verify that the operating system and graphics driver meet the published tier, then use the API and preset detected by the game. If an API switch is exposed, change only that setting and retest the same save. Avoid treating a crash workaround as a performance recommendation until it is reproducible on the shipping build.
What future testing should measure
Once independent reviewers can test the released game, useful comparisons should include native resolution versus any supported upscaling, frame-time consistency in early and late eras, shadow, volumetric, and reflection costs, VRAM use, CPU turn-time behavior, and image quality on minimum versus recommended hardware. Those measurements will determine whether the provisional workflow above needs to change.
Until then, the honest answer remains conditional: use the published requirements to choose a starting tier, keep native resolution as the reference, reduce expensive effects methodically, and validate the result on the heaviest save you can create.
