The PDP RIFFMASTER is the safest new purchase for Fortnite Festival when you choose the version made for your platform. Epic’s published compatibility table lists the PlayStation model for PS5 and PS4, and the Xbox model for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. It plays wirelessly through its supplied USB dongle and uses USB-C for charging; the available product information does not establish USB-C as a wired gameplay mode.
Existing owners have more possibilities, but compatibility is model-specific. Epic names particular Rock Band 4 Fender Jaguar and Stratocaster guitars, while a hands-on review reports Fortnite Festival use on PC with the CRKD Gibson Les Paul in several connection modes. “Rock Band guitar” or “Guitar Hero guitar” is not, by itself, a compatibility guarantee.

What works with Fortnite Festival?
Fortnite Festival’s Pro Lead and Pro Bass parts are designed for guitar-style controllers, but the game does not require one: Epic Support says those parts can also be played with supported keyboard-and-mouse setups and standard controllers. A guitar controller is worthwhile when you want the five-fret rhythm-game layout and strum controls rather than ordinary button inputs.
The strongest compatibility evidence is Epic Games’ April 2024 Fortnite Festival announcement and its accompanying table. That table identifies exact controller families, platform versions, and, for some legacy Xbox instruments on PC, the receiver required. Treat it as a model-by-model list, not as approval for every instrument from the same brand or series.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Quick decision
- Buying new for PlayStation: choose the PlayStation-version PDP RIFFMASTER.
- Buying new for Xbox or PC: choose the Xbox-version RIFFMASTER; Epic’s table lists that version for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
- Already own a Rock Band 4 guitar: check the exact Fender Jaguar or Stratocaster model and platform version against Epic’s list before buying an adapter or used console.
- Want a Guitar Hero-style alternative: the CRKD Gibson Les Paul is documented in a hands-on PC review, but its Xbox and multi-platform editions should not be treated as interchangeable.
Best new option: PDP RIFFMASTER
The RIFFMASTER is the clearest choice for a first-time buyer because the manufacturer and Epic documentation line up on the platform-specific versions. It is a wireless guitar controller rather than a permanently tethered USB instrument.
PlayStation version
Epic lists the PlayStation RIFFMASTER for PS5 and PS4. The manufacturer’s product information identifies Fortnite Festival and Rock Band 4 support and includes a USB wireless dongle plus a USB-C charging cable. PlayStation Direct likewise describes a 30-foot wireless range and up to 36 hours of play per charge; those are published product figures, not independent measurements.
Xbox version
Epic lists the Xbox RIFFMASTER for Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One. PDP’s product page also lists Windows 10 and Windows 11 support, while Epic’s table identifies the Xbox/PC version for PC. Use the Xbox-labelled model for this platform family rather than assuming the PlayStation unit can be moved between systems.

What “wireless” means here
The supplied dongle is the gameplay connection. The included USB-C lead is identified as a charging cable. Therefore, describe the RIFFMASTER as wireless for play, USB-C for charging; the available specifications do not prove that plugging in the cable enables a wired gameplay mode.

Published RIFFMASTER specifications
| Specification | Published figure or description | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Wireless range | 30 feet | Manufacturer and PlayStation Direct product figure; not independently tested here. |
| Battery life | Up to 36 hours per charge | Manufacturer-rated maximum, also repeated by PlayStation Direct; actual life varies with use. |
| Gameplay connection | Wireless USB dongle | Use the supplied receiver; do not infer wired play from the charging lead. |
| Charging | USB-C cable included | The available listing identifies it for charging. |
| Platform choice | PlayStation or Xbox edition | Epic’s table separates the console families; select the correct version. |
PDP also lists a RIFFMASTER pickguard as a related customization accessory. It is optional and has no role in Festival compatibility.
Legacy Rock Band 4 guitars
Legacy hardware can be a sensible route if you already own the right instrument, but the exact model and radio hardware matter. Epic’s table names Rock Band 4 Fender Jaguar and Fender Stratocaster guitars rather than approving all Rock Band generations, all Fender variants, or every used-market listing.
PlayStation 4 versions
The listed PlayStation 4 Jaguar and Stratocaster models are wireless and supported on PS4 according to Epic’s table. The table does not establish a PC use case for these PlayStation versions, so do not buy one expecting it to work on Windows without separate, current documentation.
Xbox One versions
Epic lists the Xbox One versions of the specified Rock Band 4 Jaguar and Stratocaster for Xbox One. For use on a Windows 10 PC, Epic explicitly requires the Microsoft Xbox One Wireless Adapter for Windows 10. That requirement applies to the listed Xbox One guitars; it is not evidence that the adapter makes every Rock Band or Guitar Hero controller compatible.

- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.

Used-controller checklist
- Read the label or listing carefully for the exact game generation: it must be a named Rock Band 4 Fender Jaguar or Stratocaster model, not merely “Rock Band guitar.”
- Confirm the platform edition: PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions use different wireless ecosystems.
- For Xbox One hardware on Windows 10, obtain and verify the Microsoft Xbox One Wireless Adapter for Windows 10.
- Ask whether the guitar’s original battery door, strap, dongle, or other required hardware is included.
- Test every fret button and strum bar if buying locally; a compatible model with worn controls is still a poor Festival controller.
- Check Epic’s current compatibility information before paying, because the published table dates from April 2024 and may later gain or change entries.
Nothing in the available official information confirms that community-modified guitars, third-party receivers, instruments from earlier Rock Band games, or generic Guitar Hero controllers will work. Treat those as experiments rather than supported purchases.
CRKD Gibson Les Paul: a multi-mode alternative
A 2025 hands-on TechRadar review describes the CRKD Gibson Les Paul as a Guitar Hero-style controller that can connect by wired USB-C, Bluetooth, or a 2.4 GHz dongle. The reviewer used it with Fortnite Festival on PC. That makes it a notable alternative for a PC player who wants connection flexibility, but it is not listed by Epic in the same way as the RIFFMASTER and named Rock Band 4 instruments.
Edition differences matter
The review distinguishes Xbox and multi-platform behavior. Do not present every Gibson Les Paul package as universally compatible: identify the exact edition, intended console or PC, and current manufacturer instructions before purchase. A connection mode reported for one edition should not be assumed for another.

- USB-C: the review explicitly reports wired use, unlike the RIFFMASTER information, which only identifies USB-C charging.
- Bluetooth: useful where the selected edition and host device support the required profile, but confirm the current setup procedure.
- 2.4 GHz dongle: offers a dedicated wireless receiver; ensure the receiver belongs to the exact controller package.
The review is hands-on evidence of PC Festival use, not a controlled latency, durability, or battery comparison. There are no established head-to-head test results here for comfort, input delay, construction life, or long-term value.

Wired versus wireless: choose by the problem you need to solve
| Priority | Better fit | Why | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Officially listed new console controller | Platform-matched RIFFMASTER | Epic lists separate PlayStation and Xbox versions, with a supplied wireless receiver. | USB-C is documented as charging, not confirmed gameplay. |
| Play without a cable across the room | RIFFMASTER or a wireless legacy model | Both are described as wireless in the cited product or compatibility information. | Legacy units may need their original receiver; Xbox-on-PC use needs the specified adapter. |
| Explicit wired gameplay option | CRKD Gibson Les Paul | The TechRadar review reports wired USB-C as one of its modes. | Edition-specific behavior and current support must be confirmed. |
| Use hardware already owned | Named Rock Band 4 Fender model | Can avoid buying a new guitar if the exact platform and receiver match. | Epic’s list is narrow; do not generalize to other instruments. |
Wireless is not automatically better. It removes a cable but adds a receiver, batteries, charging, and another possible pairing failure. Wired operation avoids battery management but can be less convenient and is only established for the CRKD review’s tested setup. Choose from documented compatibility first, then connection preference.
How to set up a RIFFMASTER
- Match the edition to the platform. Select the PlayStation version for PS5 or PS4, or the Xbox version for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and the Epic-listed PC configuration.
- Charge the controller. Use the included USB-C cable. A charging cable should not be described as a gameplay cable unless current instructions explicitly say so.
- Connect the receiver. Insert the supplied wireless USB dongle into the console or PC. On a PC, follow the current instructions for the Xbox/PC version and Windows.
- Power on and pair. Turn on the guitar and complete any pairing sequence shown by the controller’s current manual.
- Launch Fortnite Festival. Open the Festival Main Stage and select a song containing Pro Lead or Pro Bass. Check that the game recognizes the guitar before starting a full performance.
- Map or calibrate only if needed. If buttons register incorrectly, close the game, reconnect the receiver, and verify the platform edition before changing unrelated Windows or console settings.
If the controller works in the console menu but not in Festival, recheck that the receiver is connected directly, the correct profile is active, and the selected song supports the Pro part. Epic Support describes Pro Lead and Pro Bass as parts added to all current and future Jam Tracks, but individual gameplay still depends on a recognized supported input device.
How to set up a legacy Xbox guitar on PC
- Verify that the instrument is one of the Epic-listed Rock Band 4 Fender Jaguar or Stratocaster Xbox One models.
- Use Windows 10 for the documented setup and connect the Microsoft Xbox One Wireless Adapter for Windows 10.
- Pair the guitar with that adapter according to the adapter and guitar instructions.
- Confirm in Windows that the adapter and controller are detected before opening Fortnite.
- Start Festival and test Pro Lead or Pro Bass in a low-stakes song.
- If pairing fails, check batteries, the adapter’s USB connection, and whether the guitar is actually an Xbox One edition. A PlayStation 4 guitar or an unlisted generation will not become supported merely because an adapter is present.
What Pro Lead and Pro Bass add
Epic Support defines Pro Lead and Pro Bass as two song parts added to all current and future Jam Tracks in Fortnite Festival. Epic’s announcement says Rock Band 4 guitar controllers can be used for those parts on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC, with the compatibility table narrowing that statement to particular models and platforms.
These parts are an extra control option, not a requirement for Festival. Players without a guitar can use supported keyboard-and-mouse or standard-controller inputs. That makes a guitar purchase a choice about feel, control layout, and the rhythm-game experience rather than access to Festival itself.
Best Value

- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
Common compatibility mistakes and fixes
“It says wireless, so every console should work.”
Wireless standards and platform licensing differ. RIFFMASTER PlayStation and Xbox editions are separate choices, and legacy Xbox instruments have a different PC adapter requirement. Match the edition before considering range or battery claims.
“The charging cable makes the RIFFMASTER wired.”
The available RIFFMASTER listings identify USB-C for charging and the dongle for wireless play. Keep those functions separate in your expectations.
“Any Rock Band guitar should work.”
Epic’s table names particular Rock Band 4 Fender Jaguar and Stratocaster models. Earlier generations, other variants, missing receivers, and modified hardware are not established as supported.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →“An Xbox adapter fixes every old guitar.”
The Microsoft Xbox One Wireless Adapter for Windows 10 is specifically required for the listed Xbox One versions on PC. It is not a universal conversion device.
“A review proves official Epic certification.”
The CRKD Gibson Les Paul’s PC Festival use comes from a hands-on TechRadar review. That is useful evidence, but it is not the same as appearing in Epic’s published compatibility table. Confirm current manufacturer guidance for the edition you intend to buy.
How to compare candidates without overstating the evidence
Use this order when evaluating a listing or a used controller:
- Platform and exact model: start with Epic’s named entries or clearly documented edition-specific support.
- Receiver and cable contents: identify whether the required dongle or Xbox adapter is included.
- Connection type: distinguish wireless gameplay, wired gameplay, Bluetooth, 2.4 GHz receivers, and charging.
- Condition: inspect fret buttons, strum bar, battery contacts, pairing buttons, and USB-C port.
- Operating-system details: legacy Xbox-on-PC support in the cited table specifies Windows 10; do not silently broaden that requirement.
- Practical preference: only after compatibility is established should you weigh cable placement, charging habits, guitar shape, or customization.
The available sources do not provide controlled comparisons of latency, comfort, durability, or adoption. A claim that one listed controller is the fastest, most comfortable, or longest-lasting would go beyond the evidence. The RIFFMASTER’s 30-foot range and up-to-36-hour battery figure are manufacturer specifications, not independent test results.
Quick Recap
Bottom line for each type of player
- New PlayStation player: buy the PlayStation RIFFMASTER and use its wireless dongle; charge over USB-C.
- New Xbox or PC player: buy the Xbox RIFFMASTER version, checking the current PC instructions and edition labeling.
- Rock Band 4 owner: keep the guitar if it is the exact Epic-listed Fender Jaguar or Stratocaster version and you have its required receiver. Xbox One owners on Windows 10 also need the Microsoft Xbox One Wireless Adapter.
- PC player seeking wired and wireless choices: investigate the CRKD Gibson Les Paul edition that matches your platform, using the review’s connection information as a starting point rather than a universal guarantee.
- Anyone unsure of compatibility: use a standard controller or keyboard and mouse for Festival while you verify the guitar’s exact model and platform support.
