“Half keyboard” can mean several different things. This guide focuses on dedicated left-hand gaming keypads—not ordinary 60% keyboards or one half of a split typing keyboard. Prices and availability were checked on August 16, 2026, and can change by region, stock, tax, shipping, and promotions.

What is a half keyboard?
A dedicated gaming half keyboard, also called a one-handed gaming keypad, replaces the left side of a conventional keyboard while your right hand stays on the mouse. It usually combines movement controls, number-row equivalents, modifiers, macros, game profiles, and a thumb control in a smaller footprint.
Recommended Free Tools
The term is easy to misunderstand:
- One-handed gaming keypad: designed for gaming, with programmable controls, thumb inputs, and sometimes analog movement.
- Half of a split keyboard: primarily a typing device. It may not include gaming profiles, macro software, or a gaming-oriented thumb control.
- 40%, 60%, or 65% keyboard: a complete keyboard in a smaller footprint. A 60% model typically removes the number pad, navigation cluster, and function row, using layers or shortcuts instead. See RTINGS’ explanation of 60% keyboards.
If you need to type chat messages, use arrows and function keys, or work at the same desk, a compact full keyboard may be more practical than a true one-handed keypad.

Best overall: Azeron Cyborg II Compact
The Azeron Cyborg II Compact is the best overall half keyboard when the goal is to reduce finger travel and build a control layout around your hand. Its adjustable, hand-shaped construction places controls around the fingers instead of reproducing conventional keyboard rows. Azeron lists 30 programmable inputs and a 360-degree Hall-effect thumbstick.
That combination makes it especially interesting for battle royale games, survival games, MMOs, action RPGs, and players who need many controls within reach. The thumbstick can provide variable movement in games that support analog input, although it is not automatically better than digital WASD for competitive FPS play.
Azeron’s sizing guidance places medium hands around 16–19 cm and large hands around 19–21 cm, with larger configurations available by special request. Those figures are manufacturer guidance, not a guarantee of comfort. Confirm the current customization and return policies before ordering. The official page showed a sold-out signal alongside pricing when checked, so stock should also be verified live.
Why buy it
- Highly adjustable finger and thumb positioning.
- Many accessible programmable inputs without reaching across a keyboard.
- Analog thumbstick movement.
- Distinctive custom colors and an unusual, purpose-built appearance.
Why avoid it
- The layout requires meaningful muscle-memory retraining.
- It is poor as a general typing keyboard.
- The premium price is mainly paying for adjustability, specialization, customization, and analog control—not simply more keys.
- A badly adjusted layout can still create pressure points or awkward wrist angles.
Best traditional keypad: Razer Tartarus Pro
The Razer Tartarus Pro is the safer choice if you want a recognizable keypad layout without moving to Azeron’s radically different hand-shaped design. It uses Razer analog optical switches, supports adjustable actuation, and allows dual-function key assignments.
It suits FPS, MMO, and action-game players who want programmable controls while keeping a familiar row-and-column arrangement. Razer’s software ecosystem is also more recognizable to mainstream gaming-PC buyers, though the device remains dependent on software configuration and profile management.
The trade-off is ergonomics. Its thumb and finger positions are less physically adjustable than the Cyborg II Compact, so it may not solve reach or hand-position problems as effectively. Choose it when familiarity and conventional keypad logic matter more than maximum customization.

Best budget and wireless option: Redragon DITI K585 Pro
The Redragon DITI K585 Pro is the practical entry point. The official store listed a $49.99 sale price and a displayed regular price of $64.99 when checked. It provides 42 keys, seven programmable macro keys, four onboard profiles, RGB lighting, a detachable wrist rest, and red, brown, or blue switch options.

Its major advantage is connectivity: the K585 Pro supports USB, 2.4 GHz wireless, and Bluetooth. Redragon advertises approximately 15–20 hours of play with RGB enabled and about 10 hours of charging time. These are manufacturer estimates and will vary with lighting and usage.
There is an important wireless limitation: Redragon states that its configuration software is available when the keypad is connected in wired mode. If you expect to reconfigure profiles entirely over wireless, this may change your buying decision.
The K585 Pro is a conventional compact keypad, not a deeply adjustable ergonomic controller. It is a good fit for someone who wants a small, inexpensive device with familiar keys, but not for someone seeking individualized finger placement or premium analog control.
Best mechanical-style ergonomic keypad: Azeron Keyzen
The Azeron Keyzen occupies the middle ground between a normal mechanical keypad and an Azeron ergonomic controller. It offers an adjustable construction, up to 32 mappable keys, a Hall-effect thumbstick, and Cherry MX red, blue, or brown switch choices. Azeron listed a $215 sale price when checked.
Choose the Keyzen if the feel and logic of mechanical keyboard switches matter to you but you still want a more adjustable layout than the Razer or Redragon designs. It is not simply a better Cyborg II: the Cyborg is the more radically ergonomic option, while the Keyzen is aimed at players who want greater familiarity.

Is the Azeron Cyro worth considering?
The Azeron Cyro is not just another half keyboard. It combines a one-handed keypad with a mouse, offering 22 mappable keys, a built-in 16K sensor, and a 360-degree thumbstick.
It makes sense only if you specifically want an integrated keypad-and-mouse arrangement. If you already own a preferred gaming mouse, or rely on a particular mouse shape and sensor, the Cyro changes too much of your setup to be a straightforward upgrade. Treat it as a separate controller category rather than a direct replacement for the Cyborg II Compact or Tartarus Pro.
Why use a half keyboard for gaming?
A keypad can create more room for wide mouse movements and put game-specific commands closer to the left hand. Depending on the design, it can also reduce reaching, provide a stable home position, and accommodate players who cannot comfortably use a standard keyboard layout.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteIt does not automatically improve reaction time, aim, movement, win rate, or competitive ranking. The outcome depends on hand size, game genre, input latency, keybind quality, and how much time you spend learning the layout. More keys are useful only when you can identify and press them reliably.
How to choose the right half keyboard
1. Match the layout to your reach
Look at the distance between movement, abilities, number-row commands, modifiers, and the thumb control. Consider whether you can return to a home position without looking. Hand-shaped devices provide more adjustment, but fixed designs are often easier to understand immediately.
2. Count useful inputs, not advertised inputs
FPS players may need movement, jump, crouch, reload, interact, melee, weapon swap, abilities, and push-to-talk. MMO and simulator players may benefit from many more controls. Excess keys can create accidental presses, particularly in fast FPS play.

- No more wearing out. Mechanical key switch offers a longer lifespan and higher stability for nonstop gamers and typers
- USB Type C connectivity for a easy connection with your PlayStation 4
- Quickly and easily connect with the playstation 4
- Plug and Play your gaming keyboard with the PC and go
3. Understand the switch technology
- Mechanical switches: familiar tactile or clicky feel, with some models offering switch choices or replacement options.
- Optical switches: the Tartarus Pro uses analog optical switches with adjustable actuation.
- Hall-effect thumbsticks: used by newer Azeron devices for magnetic sensing and analog thumb control.
- Hall-effect keyboard switches: found in some compact keyboards. They enable features such as adjustable actuation and rapid trigger, but they are not the same as a Hall-effect thumbstick.
4. Decide whether you need analog movement
An analog thumbstick can provide variable movement speed and controller-style directional control. That can be useful in movement-heavy games, but digital WASD remains more familiar and predictable for many competitive FPS players. A thumbstick is a different input method, not a guaranteed performance upgrade.

Verify whether remapping requires desktop software, whether profiles are stored onboard, whether profile switching works during play, and whether configuration remains available in wireless mode. Also check operating-system support, firmware updates, and whether the device is detected correctly when a game runs with elevated permissions.
6. Treat wireless as a convenience, not a free feature
Compare USB, 2.4 GHz, and Bluetooth modes, then check battery life, charging time, dongle storage, cable placement, and whether wireless mode disables configuration features. For the K585 Pro, configuration may require a wired connection.
7. Put comfort before RGB
RGB, colors, and industrial design are valid style considerations, but they should follow reach, wrist angle, stability, thumbstick clearance, tactile identification, and reliable software. Lighting is most useful when it helps identify profiles or key groups; it is not inherently a performance feature.

Competitive FPS
Prioritize reliable digital movement, consistent input, easy access to jump, crouch, reload, melee, and abilities, and a layout with minimal accidental presses. The Tartarus Pro is the safer conventional choice. The Cyborg II Compact can work well for players willing to retrain, while the K585 Pro is a low-cost way to test the concept. Do not assume an analog thumbstick is better for esports shooters.
MMOs and action RPGs
Prioritize accessible inputs, profiles, modifier combinations, and clear tactile separation. The Cyborg II Compact, Tartarus Pro, and Keyzen are the strongest fits. Check the game’s rules before using macros, rapid-fire functions, or multi-action bindings.

The small size and lightweight design make it easier to carry and perfect for business trip
Battle royale and survival games
Inventory, map, interact, build, weapon, and utility controls can benefit from additional accessible keys. The Cyborg II Compact offers the most room for customization, but its learning curve is substantial.
Simulators and productivity-adjacent gaming
Prioritize key count, repeatable profiles, labels, and shortcut compatibility. A keypad can supplement a full keyboard, leaving the normal keyboard connected for chat and ordinary typing.
Accessibility and one-handed use
A keypad may help some users relocate controls, reduce reach, customize key placement, or operate games with one hand. Comfort is highly individual. Check hand-size compatibility, left- or right-hand availability, thumbstick resistance, the need to sustain a grip, and the return policy. Stop using any device that causes pain, numbness, or tingling and seek appropriate professional advice if symptoms persist.

- Connect the keypad by USB and install the manufacturer’s configuration software.
- Create one profile for your primary game.
- Assign movement and the most important controls first.
- Add reload, jump, crouch, interact, weapon swap, abilities, and communication controls only after the basic layout feels natural.
- Use tactile or physical landmarks to find the home position without looking.
- Save a backup of the profile.
- Test every binding in the game’s controls menu.
- Use training modes or low-pressure matches before playing competitively.
A staged transition is more effective than remapping everything at once. Start with movement and camera interaction, then add core actions, followed by abilities, utility, and profile switching. The time required varies substantially by game and prior experience.
When a half keyboard is the wrong choice
Buy a compact 60% or 65% keyboard instead if you frequently type, need arrow or function keys, use many desktop shortcuts, or want one device for work and gaming. Compact keyboards reduce desk footprint while retaining normal keyboard operation. Keychron’s compact range is one example of this category.
A dedicated keypad is also a poor fit if you do not want to maintain game profiles or retrain your muscle memory. It is a specialized controller, not automatically a better version of a small keyboard.
Troubleshooting checklist
If a key does not work:
- Confirm that the operating system detects the device.
- Test the input in a text editor or keyboard tester.
- Verify that the intended profile is active.
- Reconnect in wired mode, especially for the K585 Pro.
- Update or reinstall the configuration software.
- Check whether the game and keypad software are running at different permission levels.
- Remove duplicate bindings and test simple one-key mappings.
- Disable macros temporarily.
- Check whether the game blocks remapped or virtualized input.
- Restore the manufacturer’s default profile.
- Test on another computer to distinguish hardware from software problems.
If an analog thumbstick behaves incorrectly, check the game’s input mode, axis assignment, dead zone, calibration, and whether the active profile conflicts with the game’s controller settings.
Final verdict
Choose the Azeron Cyborg II Compact for maximum ergonomic adjustment, dense controls, and analog movement. Choose the Razer Tartarus Pro if you want a familiar keypad layout with adjustable optical actuation. Choose the Redragon DITI K585 Pro for the lowest-cost wireless entry point. Choose the Azeron Keyzen if mechanical-switch familiarity matters as much as ergonomic adjustment. If your real goal is simply saving desk space while retaining normal typing, buy a compact 60% or 65% keyboard instead.
