Keep the source frame rate; use a short preview to choose constant quality or average bitrate. If “streamed continuously” means an actual YouTube Live broadcast, use YouTube’s live-encoder guidance instead: HandBrake prepares files, not a live feed.
First decide what “streamed continuously” means
A long prerecorded video uploaded to YouTube and then played as part of a continuous channel is still an upload. HandBrake encodes that file; its settings should follow YouTube’s upload recommendations. A live broadcast is a separate workflow, with live ingestion protocols, bitrate ranges and keyframe requirements. Do not use live bitrate guidance as a target for a HandBrake upload.
For uploads, YouTube recommends MP4, H.264, progressive scan and the same frame rate as the recording. Its guidance says, “Content should be encoded and uploaded in the same frame rate it was recorded.” See YouTube recommended upload encoding settings. For live streams, consult YouTube’s live encoder settings, including its current protocol, codec, bitrate and keyframe recommendations. The live page recommends a 2-second keyframe interval, not exceeding 4 seconds.
Recommended HandBrake workflow for a prerecorded upload
- Open the source and select a Creator preset. Choose the HandBrake Creator preset closest to the source resolution and frame rate. These presets are intended for video-hosting uploads; the official preset table includes MP4/H.264 Creator variants. Check the actual output settings in your installed release because preset options can change. HandBrake Official presets.
- Match the source frame rate. Preserve the recorded rate rather than converting it without a specific need. If the source is interlaced, deinterlace it before upload, as YouTube recommends. YouTube’s upload recommendations.
- Use a compatibility-first video and audio format. For a straightforward upload, target progressive H.264 video in MP4. AAC-LC is a compatible audio choice; YouTube also lists Opus as accepted and recommends 48 kHz audio. Confirm the selected audio codec and sample rate in HandBrake before encoding. - Keep the intended Hindi audio track. Inspect the audio tracks in the source and select the Hindi one. Language-based defaults can help when the file has language metadata, but an unlabeled track or incorrect metadata may require manual selection. HandBrake audio and subtitle documentation.
- Choose constant quality or average bitrate. Constant quality is a useful way to prioritize visual quality without targeting one fixed bitrate, but the right RF value depends on the source, encoder and acceptable file size. There is no single evidence-backed RF value for every Hindi video. Preview detailed and high-motion sections, then adjust. If you need a predictable target size or bitrate, use average bitrate and consult the YouTube references below. HandBrake quality guidance.
- Set subtitles according to how viewers should use them. Import an SRT or select a supported embedded subtitle. Burn the Hindi subtitle into the image if it must always appear; use a soft subtitle track if viewers should be able to turn it on or off and the output container and player support it. - Preview, then encode. Test a short section with dialogue, fine detail and motion before queuing the full file. HandBrake has preview and queue workflows. Encoding time varies with duration, resolution, complexity, settings and computer performance. HandBrake preview workflow.
YouTube upload bitrate references
These are YouTube’s published SDR upload recommendations, not independent test results or Hindi-specific measurements. They are useful when choosing average bitrate; they do not require reducing a higher-quality source to these values, and they do not guarantee uninterrupted playback. Check YouTube’s current table when preparing a file because recommendations can change.

These figures come from YouTube’s upload encoding recommendations. The cited values are for SDR; use the page’s relevant guidance for other resolutions or HDR rather than extrapolating these figures.
Hindi audio and subtitles: what to check
Hindi itself does not require a special video codec or bitrate. The practical language-specific checks are choosing the right audio track and deciding whether Hindi captions should be permanent or selectable. If a source has multiple Hindi tracks—for example, different mixes or commentary—listen to the selected track in the preview rather than relying only on its label.

- Audio absent or in the wrong language: return to the audio-track selection and choose the intended source track explicitly; verify the preview before encoding.
- Captions must always be visible: burn the chosen subtitle track in. Viewers cannot switch burned text off, and it becomes part of the picture.
- Viewers should choose whether to show captions: retain a supported soft subtitle track and confirm the output format/player combination supports it. HandBrake documents that WebM does not support soft subtitles.
- Subtitle text looks wrong: check the imported file or embedded track and preview it in the output. Correct the subtitle source before a full encode if the Hindi script, timing or placement is wrong.
If you mean a YouTube Live broadcast
A HandBrake file is not a live encoder feed. For a live broadcast, configure the streaming encoder and ingestion method using YouTube’s live-specific settings for the chosen resolution and frame rate. YouTube’s live guidance lists its supported protocols and codecs, bitrate ranges by output mode, and a recommended 2-second keyframe interval that should not exceed 4 seconds. These requirements apply to live encoding, not to the file’s upload settings; see YouTube live encoder settings.
Troubleshooting common results
The uploaded file looks softer than the source
Check that you selected the intended Creator preset and did not downscale the video unintentionally. If using constant quality, preview detailed and fast-moving sections and adjust the quality setting; if using average bitrate, compare the selected target with YouTube’s resolution and frame-rate reference values. Re-encoding cannot restore detail missing from the source.

The file takes too long to encode or is much larger than expected
Encoding time and output size depend on the source duration, resolution, motion and detail, encoder settings and computer. Test a representative preview, then balance quality, size and encoding time before running the full queue. Do not assume one RF value will produce the same size across different videos.
The video motion looks uneven
Confirm the output frame rate matches the recorded source rate. Avoid unnecessary frame-rate conversion; if the source is interlaced, deinterlace it as YouTube recommends for uploads.

Hindi captions cannot be turned off
The track was likely burned in. Re-encode from the source with the subtitle configured as a soft track, provided the output container and playback path support soft subtitles.
The stream stops even though the video file is ready
That is a live-streaming or continuous-playback issue, not a HandBrake encoding setting. Check the status and configuration in the service or encoder that is sending the live feed, and use YouTube’s live documentation for ingestion and encoder settings. A correctly encoded upload alone does not keep a live broadcast running.
