Add a Kakurega for safehouses, travel, contracts, and resupply; build up the Forge when equipment progression becomes a priority. There is no single best order for every player—choose upgrades around what you need next.
What should you upgrade first in the Hideout?
Start with the Study and Stables if you want your Hideout to support both exploration and resource gathering. The Study increases scout capacity and improves objective searches. The Stables let scouts smuggle stockpiles from enemy camps and castles; resources are returned at the end of a season. The two buildings complement each other: scouts are needed to tag stockpiles, and Stables upgrades improve that resource loop.
After those, choose between the Kakurega and Forge based on your immediate needs. Kakurega adds travel and service convenience; Forge is the choice for upgrading and customizing equipment. Buildings and upgrades compete for Crops, Wood, Minerals, and mons, so spending toward a current goal is more useful than following a rigid ranking.
Which Hideout building fits your goal?
| Goal | Prioritize | What it provides |
|---|---|---|
| More scouts and easier searches | Study | Greater scout capacity and improved objective searches; at level 4, scouts can reveal Viewpoints and Safehouses. |
| More resources from enemy stockpiles | Stables, supported by Study | Scout-assisted smuggling from camps and castles, with returns at season end; later Stables upgrades improve the cost and yield of the loop. |
| Local fast travel and services | Kakurega | Purchasable safehouses, fast-travel points, regional contracts, and services such as replenishing tools and scouts. |
| Stronger or more customized equipment | Forge | Gear and weapon upgrades, dismantling, engravings, and transmog. Level 6 adds Mythic and Artifact gear quality progression. |
| More effective ration healing | Zashiki or Tea Room | Improved ration efficiency; Ubisoft says the Tea Room effect can compound with Zashiki. |
| Choose day or night conditions | Nando level 2 | Meditation can advance time to the next 6 o’clock, AM or PM. |
What do the Study and Stables do?
Study: scouts and searches
The Study adds scouts and improves objective searches. Its later upgrade levels make it especially useful for exploration: Ubisoft’s September 10, 2025 Title Update 1.1.1 release notes specify that Study level 4 lets scouts reveal both Viewpoints and Safehouses.

When should you build the Kakurega?
Build the Kakurega when access and convenience matter more than another equipment or gathering upgrade. It opens a network of purchasable safehouses, fast-travel points, and regional contracts, as well as services including tool and scout replenishment. Later upgrades extend its map and province discovery benefits. At level 4, it reveals a province after all of that province’s Viewpoints have been found.

When is the Forge worth upgrading?
The Forge is the Hideout’s equipment workshop. It unlocks weapon and gear upgrades, dismantling, engravings, and transmog, so it is most valuable when you are actively improving or customizing your loadout. Its higher levels have additional value for players pursuing top-tier equipment: Forge level 6 adds Mythic and Artifact gear quality progression, according to Ubisoft’s Title Update 1.1.1 notes.
What do the other Hideout rooms add?
- Dojo: Trains recruited allies, raising their rank and the strength of their unique skills.
- Nando: Reduces the cost of recalling scouts at a Kakurega. Level 2 also adds meditation to advance time to the next 6 o’clock.
- Tera: Ubisoft describes it as a 10% experience booster.
- Zashiki: Improves ration efficiency. Ubisoft’s beginner guide gives its bonus as 20% and says the Tea Room effect can stack with it.
- Tea Room: Improves ration efficiency and can compound with the Zashiki effect, according to Ubisoft.
- Jinja: Enhances shrine boons. PC Gamer’s March 2025 launch-era guide describes a 20% effect lasting 15 minutes; those figures are not restated in the cited official update material.
- Gallery: Displays gear and enables equipment loadouts.
How Hideout progression changed after launch
Older room guides may not account for the expanded upgrade system. Ubisoft’s September 10, 2025 Title Update 1.1.1 release notes say each unique building gained two additional upgrade levels, adding 20 enhancements and three Hideout levels. Among the later unlocks are Nando level 2’s time advancement, Study level 4’s Viewpoint and Safehouse discovery, Kakurega level 4’s province reveal, and Forge level 6’s Mythic and Artifact quality progression.

For construction and upgrades, you need Crops, Wood, Minerals, and mons. Ubisoft says small bundles can be looted in the open world, while larger stockpiles can be marked for scout smuggling and returned over the course of a season. Contracts and Kakurega services also fit into the broader resource and scout system.
