DLSS 5 is not available in Hogwarts Legacy yet. NVIDIA has announced the update for November 5, 2026. Until then, PC players should tune the existing DLSS Super Resolution, Ray Reconstruction, Multi Frame Generation and ray-tracing controls. There is no universally best preset: use your monitor’s native resolution, match the official Hogwarts Legacy target closest to your GPU, then change one option at a time while comparing the same scene.
Is DLSS 5 available in Hogwarts Legacy?
NVIDIA’s current announcement says DLSS 5 with 3D-Guided Neural Rendering is coming to Hogwarts Legacy on November 5, 2026. With the current date before that release, you cannot enable DLSS 5 in the game today. The announced platforms are GeForce RTX 50 Series PCs and laptops, GeForce NOW and RTX Spark.

That future update should not be confused with features already present on supported GeForce RTX systems. NVIDIA says the PC version already supports DLSS Multi Frame Generation and Ray Reconstruction. The November update is described as adding DLSS Neural Rendering and upgrading the other DLSS technologies. RTX 50 hardware is therefore tied to the announced local DLSS 5 implementation, not to Hogwarts Legacy’s existing resolution, ray-tracing or ordinary DLSS options.

Start with the official Hogwarts Legacy performance targets
The game’s published specifications are useful starting points, but they are targets rather than a guarantee for every area, driver, patch or graphics combination. The official list is available on the Hogwarts Legacy PC specifications page; Steam repeats the minimum hardware and memory requirements in its store listing.
| Target tier | Published GPU examples | Memory | Resolution and frame-rate target | Quality target |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Minimum / low | GTX 960 4 GB or Radeon RX 470 4 GB | 16 GB RAM | 720p at 30 fps | Low |
| Recommended / high | GeForce GTX 1080 Ti, Radeon RX 5700 XT or Intel Arc A770 | 16 GB RAM | 1080p at 60 fps | High |
| Ultra | GeForce RTX 2080 Ti or Radeon RX 6800 XT | 32 GB RAM | 1440p at 60 fps | Ultra |
| Ultra 4K | GeForce RTX 3090 Ti or Radeon RX 7900 XT | 32 GB RAM | 2160p at 60 fps | Ultra |
Steam also lists 85 GB of storage. The table does not establish what DLSS 5 will do on any particular card, nor does it promise that a 60-fps target will hold in every Hogwarts Legacy scene. Use the closest tier as a starting point, then validate it on your own system.
What each relevant graphics option actually changes
Native resolution and display resolution
Set the game to your monitor’s native resolution before judging image quality. Lowering the output resolution can improve performance, but it changes the comparison: a 1440p display running a 1080p output is not equivalent to 1440p with an upscaler reconstructing the image. Keep the output resolution fixed while comparing DLSS modes.
DLSS Super Resolution
Super Resolution renders internally below the output resolution and reconstructs the final image. The available quality choices trade internal rendering cost for detail and clarity. A higher-quality mode generally preserves more fine geometry and text while a more aggressive performance mode leaves more work for reconstruction. The best choice depends on your output resolution, GPU headroom and tolerance for softness or temporal artifacts; the supplied sources do not establish one mode as universally superior.
Ray-traced effects
NVIDIA’s coverage of the game’s DLSS update says Hogwarts Legacy gained more detailed ray-traced reflections, ray-traced reflections on water including the Black Lake, and separate quality and geometry-distance controls for ray-traced effects. These controls let you reduce the cost of ray tracing without necessarily disabling every effect. Because there is no published per-setting frame-rate table, treat ray-tracing quality and geometry distance as variables to test rather than assigning them a fixed performance percentage.
Ray Reconstruction
Ray Reconstruction is an existing DLSS feature on supported GeForce RTX PCs and laptops. It is intended for ray-traced workloads and should be evaluated with ray tracing enabled. Compare the same reflective surfaces, foliage and moving characters with the feature on and off; do not infer its value from a frame-rate counter alone.
DLSS Multi Frame Generation
Multi Frame Generation creates additional displayed frames between conventionally rendered frames. It can raise the reported frame rate, but that displayed number should not be treated as an identical increase in the game’s underlying render rate or input responsiveness. If smooth frame pacing and latency matter more than the highest counter value, compare your final settings with frame generation disabled.

DLSS 5 Neural Rendering
The announced November 5 update adds DLSS Neural Rendering and upgrades the other DLSS technologies. NVIDIA names GeForce RTX 50 Series, GeForce NOW and RTX Spark for that release. Until the update is deployed, guides or menu screenshots claiming that you can switch on DLSS 5 in the live PC build are describing a future feature, a preview or a different version.
A repeatable settings process
This procedure gives you a defensible baseline without pretending that a single preset has been independently benchmarked across every GPU and resolution.
- Update the game and graphics driver. Record the game version, driver version, display resolution and refresh rate before testing. A later patch can change shader compilation, frame pacing or available options.
- Choose the output resolution. Use the monitor’s native resolution and select the official quality tier closest to your GPU: low at 720p/30, high at 1080p/60, ultra at 1440p/60 or ultra 4K at 2160p/60.
- Create a baseline with ray tracing off. Keep the selected resolution and quality preset fixed. Walk through one repeatable route that includes outdoor foliage, a busy interior and a reflective surface. Note average performance subjectively or with your normal frame-time tool, but do not compare different scenes.
- Choose a DLSS Super Resolution mode. Start with the highest-quality mode that keeps your baseline acceptable. If the GPU cannot maintain the target, move one step toward a more performance-oriented mode and inspect thin geometry, hair, text and distant objects for shimmer or softness.
- Enable Ray Reconstruction when using ray-traced effects. Compare the same route with the feature on and off. Keep the Super Resolution mode unchanged so that only one variable is being judged.
- Add ray tracing gradually. Enable the desired ray-traced effects, then adjust ray-tracing quality and geometry distance. If reflections or water are the main reason you want ray tracing, lower the less important control first rather than immediately reducing output resolution.
- Test Multi Frame Generation separately. Capture the result with it off and on. Look for frame pacing, camera-motion clarity and control responsiveness in addition to the displayed frame rate. Keep the version that suits your priority, not automatically the one with the larger number.
- Lock the result and document it. Write down resolution, preset, Super Resolution mode, Ray Reconstruction state, Multi Frame Generation state, ray-tracing quality and geometry distance. This makes it possible to restore a known-good configuration after a driver or game update.
Practical starting profiles by priority
These are decision-oriented starting points derived from the official targets and documented options, not independently measured presets. You should still run the comparison procedure above.
| Priority | Starting configuration | What to watch | When to change it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Image quality first | Native output resolution; the closest high or ultra tier; highest-quality DLSS Super Resolution mode that meets your target; ray tracing added afterward; Ray Reconstruction on with ray tracing. | Fine foliage, distant castle geometry, reflective surfaces and text during camera movement. | Move one DLSS step toward performance only if the baseline misses your target; otherwise reduce ray-tracing quality or geometry distance before lowering output resolution. |
| Steady performance first | Native output resolution; the closest official tier; ray tracing off for the baseline; a performance-oriented DLSS mode if needed; Multi Frame Generation tested only after the underlying render feels stable. | Frame-time spikes in busy areas, traversal stutter and control response. | Lower ray-tracing controls first, then choose a more aggressive DLSS mode. Disable frame generation if it makes pacing or responsiveness worse for you. |
| Ray-tracing balance | Keep native output resolution; enable ray-traced effects; use Ray Reconstruction; tune ray-tracing quality and geometry distance independently; select the least aggressive DLSS mode that sustains the target. | Reflection detail on water and interiors versus GPU load, plus shimmering on moving foliage. | Reduce geometry distance or quality one setting at a time, then reassess the same reflective scenes. |
How to judge image quality instead of chasing a counter
Use identical scenes
Pick repeatable locations: a foliage-heavy outdoor path, a detailed interior, a distant architectural view and the Black Lake or another reflective water surface. Keep the camera angle and movement similar. Comparing a castle courtyard with a quiet hallway can hide the effect of a setting behind a difference in scene complexity.

Pause-and-zoom screenshots can reveal texture detail, but temporal reconstruction problems often appear only while panning. Look for crawling edges, unstable hair, flickering foliage, ghost trails behind characters and reflections that change unpredictably. Check subtitles, menus and thin railings as well as large surfaces.
Separate render rate from displayed rate
When Multi Frame Generation is enabled, record whether the game feels responsive and whether frame pacing remains consistent, not just the peak displayed frame rate. A high displayed rate cannot by itself prove that the underlying render workload or latency has improved by the same amount.
What NVIDIA’s published performance numbers mean
In its DLSS 4 announcement, NVIDIA reports that Multi Frame Generation used with DLSS Super Resolution and Ray Reconstruction multiplies frame rates by 4X on average on GeForce RTX 50 Series compared with its traditional-rendering baseline. NVIDIA also reports up to 210 fps with ray tracing and maximum settings, alongside a stated 110-fps CPU bottleneck, when Multi Frame Generation is used.

Those are vendor-reported results under NVIDIA’s test conditions. They are not a Hogwarts Legacy benchmark for every RTX 50 model, CPU, resolution, driver or scene, and they should not be converted into a promise that your system will reach 210 fps. The figures are useful for understanding why frame generation can produce a much larger displayed number than the conventional render rate, not for selecting a guaranteed preset.
Common problems and fixes
There is no DLSS 5 option
That is expected before November 5, 2026. Confirm that you are not confusing the existing DLSS Super Resolution, Ray Reconstruction or Multi Frame Generation entries with the announced Neural Rendering update. After the announced date, check that the game has received the relevant patch and that your platform is one NVIDIA lists for DLSS 5 support.
Performance is poor even with frame generation
Return to the frame-generation-off baseline. Reduce ray-tracing quality or geometry distance, then adjust Super Resolution one step at a time. Frame generation adds displayed frames; it does not remove every CPU or GPU limitation in the underlying render path. The official 60-fps targets are reference points, not guarantees for every scene.
The image looks soft or shimmers during movement
Keep the output resolution fixed and test a higher-quality Super Resolution mode. Compare Ray Reconstruction with ray tracing enabled and inspect the same moving foliage, hair and thin geometry. If artifacts remain, use the clearest mode that still meets your performance target rather than judging from a static screenshot alone.
Ray tracing causes large drops
Disable ray tracing to confirm how much of the cost comes from those effects. Re-enable it and lower quality or geometry distance independently. The game exposes both controls specifically so you can trade detail and scene range against GPU load; there is no published universal setting that suits every card.

Before considering an upgrade, match your current card to the official target table and test the existing options. A new GPU may be relevant for a specific resolution, ray-tracing goal or future DLSS 5 compatibility, but the announcement does not establish that every player needs one to enjoy the game or to use current DLSS features.
Frequently asked questions
What are the best Hogwarts Legacy settings for DLSS 5?
There is no evidence-backed universal preset. Use native output resolution, start at the official tier closest to your GPU, establish a ray-tracing-off baseline, then tune Super Resolution, Ray Reconstruction, ray-tracing controls and Multi Frame Generation one at a time. DLSS 5 itself is announced for November 5, 2026, not available before that date.

NVIDIA’s announcement names GeForce RTX 50 Series for local GeForce RTX PCs and laptops. It also names GeForce NOW and RTX Spark as supported platforms. The announcement does not list individual RTX 50 models or provide a per-model performance table.
Can older GPUs use Hogwarts Legacy DLSS?
The official PC targets include GTX 960, GTX 1080 Ti and other non-RTX GPUs, so the game’s general graphics options are not limited to RTX 50 hardware. DLSS features themselves require supported GeForce hardware; use the game’s available menu options and the published target closest to your system.
Does Multi Frame Generation make a 60-fps game equivalent to 120 fps?
No. It can increase the number of displayed frames, but that number does not mean the underlying render rate, CPU work or input latency has doubled. Compare responsiveness and frame pacing with the feature enabled and disabled on your own system.
Frequently Asked Questions
When can I enable DLSS 5 in Hogwarts Legacy?
NVIDIA has announced the update for November 5, 2026. Before that release, only the game’s existing DLSS features are available.
Recommended Free Tools
Is ray tracing required for Ray Reconstruction?
Ray Reconstruction is intended for ray-traced effects, so evaluate it with ray tracing enabled and compare the same scene with the feature on and off.
Should I lower resolution or ray tracing first?
Keep native output resolution when possible. If ray tracing is the main load, first test lower ray-tracing quality or geometry distance; then adjust Super Resolution if the target is still missed.
The Bottom Line
For now, use a native-resolution baseline, the official Hogwarts Legacy tier closest to your GPU, and one-change-at-a-time testing. Treat DLSS 5 as a forthcoming November 5, 2026 update, not a setting you can enable in the current build.
