Best Hope in the City Graphics Settings for Low-End PCs and Steam Deck

Start with the lowest preset at 1280×720 (or 1280×800 on a 16:10 display), then raise image quality one option at a time. That is a sensible first experiment for hardware near the published GeForce GTX 560 minimum, but it is not a measured benchmark. The Steam listing gives no tested low-end preset, frame-rate result, or Steam Deck configuration. Steam currently marks Deck compatibility as Unknown, so any Deck result remains provisional until the game ships or the developer publishes updated information.

Hope in the City is an upcoming non-linear narrative mystery from Lofty Sky Entertainment Inc., with NAGA Games also listed as publisher on Steam. The store page plans a November 11, 2026 release for Windows PC. You investigate Shenyang, China, using Hope Song’s sketches and notebook to connect clues; the developer describes the visuals as a “Creative and Unique Triangulated Art Style.”

What settings should you use first?

For a low-end desktop or laptop, use the lowest graphics preset, 1280×720 resolution, and a frame-rate cap at the highest value your computer can hold consistently. On a 16:10 display, including the Steam Deck screen, begin at 1280×800 instead. Keep textures at Low or Medium if the graphics card has enough video memory, and reduce shadows, reflections, effects, ambient occlusion, and view distance before sacrificing texture detail. Turn off motion blur and depth of field if the game exposes those switches.

This order is a cautious recommendation inferred from the published GTX 560 minimum. It is not an official configuration and does not establish a guaranteed frame rate. Change one option at a time, replay the same demanding scene, and keep notes so you can reverse a change that causes stutter or visual problems.

Published PC requirements

The following are the Windows requirements shown on the Steam listing. They describe the hardware the developer and publisher chose as reference points; they do not provide an FPS target or a quality preset.

Item Minimum Recommended
Operating system Windows 7 64-bit Windows 10 64-bit
Processor Intel Core i7-2600K Intel Core i5-10400F
Memory 4 GB RAM 8 GB RAM
Graphics GeForce GTX 560 GeForce GTX 1060
DirectX DirectX 9 DirectX 12
Storage 3 GB available 10 GB available

A machine that meets the minimum is not equivalent to a machine that delivers smooth play at a chosen resolution. The minimum GTX 560, i7-2600K, and 4 GB of RAM indicate the lower boundary listed for Windows; the recommended GTX 1060, i5-10400F, and 8 GB indicate a substantially newer target. The storage figures are the amounts listed for each tier, not a promise that future patches will never increase the installation size.

How to choose a starting profile by hardware

Systems around the GTX 560 minimum

Use the lowest preset at 1280×720, with textures Low unless the game looks obviously degraded and the card has spare VRAM. Lower shadows, reflections, effects, ambient occlusion, and view distance first. Disable post-processing options such as motion blur and depth of field. If the frame rate fluctuates, cap it to a stable value rather than chasing a peak number. A consistent cap can make camera movement and clue inspection feel steadier even when the uncapped counter briefly reports a higher result.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Older cards below the listed minimum

A card slower than a GTX 560 is outside the published minimum, so no responsible setting can promise playability. You can still test 1280×720 or a lower in-game resolution, but treat every result as experimental. Keep every option at Low, close background applications, and watch for driver crashes, missing textures, severe hitching, or failure to launch. If the game requires a graphics API your card does not support, changing quality sliders will not solve that compatibility problem.

Integrated graphics and entry-level laptops

Integrated GPUs share system memory and often have less graphics bandwidth than the listed GTX 560. Begin at 1280×720 with the lowest preset and textures Low. If the game offers a resolution scale, reduce that before lowering texture quality further; a lower internal render resolution can reduce GPU workload while preserving readable interface elements. Keep the laptop connected to AC power and use its highest-performance mode, but do not assume that a performance profile creates capability the hardware lacks.

Systems near the recommended GTX 1060

The recommended GTX 1060 and 8 GB RAM give you more headroom than the minimum tier, but they still do not establish a specific frame rate. Start with the recommended preset, if one exists, at your monitor’s native resolution. If performance is uneven, lower shadows, reflections, ambient occlusion, effects, and view distance in that order while leaving textures higher. Increase only one setting per test run so you know which change affects frame pacing.

Step-by-step: configure a low-end PC

  1. Update before testing. Install the latest graphics driver that supports your GPU and restart Windows. Do not use a driver branch that your card cannot support; an old card may be limited to legacy releases.
  2. Close competing software. Exit browsers with many tabs, launchers you do not need, recording tools, and overlays. Leave enough free system memory for the game, especially on a 4 GB machine.
  3. Open the game’s graphics menu. Select the lowest preset. If the menu separates display and quality settings, apply the preset first and verify that it actually changed each individual option.
  4. Set the resolution. Choose 1280×720 on a conventional 16:9 monitor. Choose 1280×800 on a 16:10 panel such as the Steam Deck display. Use exclusive fullscreen if borderless mode adds stutter or prevents the game from using the intended resolution.
  5. Reduce expensive effects. Set shadows, reflections, effects, ambient occlusion, and view distance to Low or Off. These settings commonly increase GPU work more than texture detail does, which is why they are the first quality compromises in this starting profile.
  6. Choose texture quality. Keep textures Low on a card with limited VRAM. Try Medium only after a stable test; texture increases can cause swapping or hitching when memory is insufficient even if average rendering speed appears acceptable.
  7. Disable blur effects. Turn off motion blur and depth of field if available. This removes image softness and can make clue text and notebook pages easier to inspect.
  8. Apply and restart if requested. Some engines do not load a renderer, shader, or texture change completely until the game restarts. Restart before judging a major preset change.
  9. Test a repeatable scene. Walk through the same location, open the notebook, rotate the camera, and revisit any area that previously stuttered. Record resolution, preset, cap, and the exact changes.
  10. Set a cap. Use the in-game limiter when available. If it is absent, use your driver or overlay limiter. Select the highest value that remains stable during the demanding scene, not the highest number shown in an empty room.

How to tune image quality without creating stutter

Textures

Texture quality controls the resolution of surfaces and can improve the legibility of environmental details. It is often less expensive to frame rate than dynamic shadows, but it consumes VRAM. On a GTX 560-class card, begin at Low and test Medium only if you do not see texture pop-in, sudden pauses while turning, or memory-related hitching. If those symptoms appear, return to Low before changing other options.

Shadows

Shadows can require additional scene rendering and filtering. Lower shadow resolution, distance, or quality before reducing the whole game’s resolution. The visual trade-off is softer or shorter shadows, while the benefit can be steadier movement in scenes with several light sources.

Reflections

Reflections may be particularly costly when the scene contains reflective surfaces or water. Set them to Low or Off on minimum-tier hardware. If the game provides separate screen-space reflection quality and reflection distance controls, reduce distance first and then quality.

Effects and ambient occlusion

Effects can include particles, bloom, volumetric lighting, or other post-processing. Ambient occlusion adds contact shading around objects and corners but can consume GPU time. Lower both before dropping texture quality when the goal is to preserve the clarity of Hope Song’s sketches, notebook, and environmental clues.

View distance

View distance determines how far objects remain detailed or visible. Lowering it can reduce the number of objects processed, but an aggressive setting may make distant clues appear late. Use the lowest value that does not interfere with investigating a scene; if the game hides important evidence at short distances, restore one step and reduce shadows or effects instead.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Resolution and resolution scale

Resolution has a direct effect on the number of pixels rendered. If 1280×720 is still too demanding, try a lower in-game resolution or resolution scale if the title offers one. Keep the interface readable and avoid stretching a 16:9 image across a 16:10 screen unless the game handles aspect ratios correctly. On a 1280×800 display, preserving the panel’s native aspect ratio can prevent black bars or distorted framing, but a 16:9 render may be the only mode exposed by the game.

FPS expectations: what can and cannot be promised

No authoritative source currently publishes a measured FPS figure for a GTX 560, GTX 1060, or Steam Deck. Therefore, an exact number such as 30, 40, or 60 FPS would be invented. The published minimum and recommended GPUs are requirements tiers, not benchmark results. Your result will depend on the final game build, driver, CPU behavior, memory configuration, resolution, scene complexity, and the settings you select.

Use a frame-rate counter only as a measurement of your own system. Test the same route after each change and distinguish average FPS from frame pacing: a high average with repeated long pauses can feel worse than a lower but steady cap. Record the game version and graphics settings with every result, because the title is scheduled for a future release and performance may change through updates.

Steam Deck status and a cautious testing plan

Steam currently displays the exact status “Steam Deck Compatibility Unknown.” The official pages reviewed do not provide a Deck benchmark, Proton configuration, or Deck-specific graphics preset. The game is listed for Windows PC on Steam, so Linux-layer behavior and handheld performance cannot be inferred from the Windows minimum alone.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What to try if you already have access to a demo or pre-release build

  1. Install the build through Steam and note its exact version number.
  2. Leave the compatibility tool at Steam’s default first. Do not assume a particular Proton version is endorsed when no developer configuration is published.
  3. Set the Deck display to 1280×800 and choose the lowest in-game preset.
  4. Disable motion blur and depth of field, then reduce shadows, reflections, effects, ambient occlusion, and view distance.
  5. Choose a conservative frame-rate cap and refresh setting rather than uncapped rendering. If the image is unstable, reduce the internal resolution or resolution scale.
  6. Record TDP limit, frame-rate cap, refresh rate, resolution, preset, battery state, and game version. These details are necessary for anyone comparing results later.
  7. Test a demanding investigation scene, notebook use, camera rotation, and transitions between areas. A menu or quiet room is not enough to establish performance.

Do not treat a successful launch as proof of full compatibility. A game can start and still show broken video, missing input, shader compilation pauses, suspend/resume failures, or unstable frame pacing. Until Steam changes the rating or the developer publishes device-specific data, describe any Deck experience as an individual test rather than a verified preset.

Steam Deck controls, display, and power trade-offs

The Deck’s 1280×800 panel makes 1280×800 a natural first resolution, but rendering fewer pixels can help if the game cannot maintain a stable cap. A lower cap and lower TDP can extend battery life, while a higher cap or unrestricted power budget may improve responsiveness at the cost of heat and runtime. Because no official Deck performance target exists, choose the combination that remains stable in the most demanding scene rather than copying a number from an unrelated game.

Keep the device ventilated and avoid judging performance immediately after a major shader or graphics change. First-run shader work can produce temporary pauses that do not represent steady-state play, while later areas may be more demanding than the opening sequence. Record whether a problem repeats after restarting the game.

Troubleshooting common low-end problems

The game launches but runs slowly everywhere

  • Confirm that the lowest preset and 1280×720 or 1280×800 resolution actually applied.
  • Lower shadows, reflections, effects, ambient occlusion, and view distance before reducing textures.
  • Use a stable frame-rate cap and close overlays or recording software.
  • Check that the game is using the dedicated GPU on a laptop rather than an integrated adapter.

Performance is acceptable until you turn the camera

Turning can expose new geometry, textures, and effects. Lower view distance and effects, then test texture quality. If the hitch occurs only while new areas load, insufficient VRAM or system memory may be involved. A 4 GB system is at the listed minimum, so background programs can matter; close them and retest before changing every graphics option.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Textures look blurry or pop in

Raise textures one step only if VRAM allows. If raising them causes pauses, return to Low and keep other settings reduced. A lower texture setting is preferable to repeated streaming stalls during investigation.

The picture is stretched or bordered

Match the game’s aspect ratio to the display where possible: 1280×720 for 16:9 and 1280×800 for 16:10. Try fullscreen and borderless modes separately. If the game exposes an aspect-ratio option, select the panel’s native ratio rather than forcing a widescreen image into a 16:10 frame.

The game will not start on an old PC

Check the operating system, DirectX support, driver, and available storage against the published minimum. The listing specifies Windows 7 64-bit, DirectX 9, an i7-2600K-class processor, 4 GB RAM, a GTX 560, and 3 GB available storage as its minimum. A quality slider cannot compensate for an unsupported API, operating system, or GPU feature set.

The Deck launches but has serious glitches

Capture the game version, compatibility-tool version, resolution, preset, cap, and the exact symptom. Try the default compatibility setting after testing any alternate, and report repeatable issues to the developer through the game’s official support channel. Because the current compatibility field is Unknown, there is no verified Deck workaround to apply universally.

Memory, storage, and CPU considerations

The minimum listing calls for 4 GB of RAM and the recommended tier calls for 8 GB. On a 4 GB Windows system, leave as much memory free as possible before launching; browser tabs, launchers, and capture software can increase swapping. If the game pauses while loading or changing areas, check memory use as well as GPU settings. More RAM does not guarantee a higher frame rate, but avoiding constant paging can improve consistency.

  • Keep Your Desk Organized: By lifting both screens off the desktop, this dual monitor stand opens up valuable space for your keyboard, notebook, docking station or a simple, clutter-free work area. Built-in cable management guides wires along the arms, keeping cords out of sight and out of the way. Enjoy a tidy, modern workstation that looks as good as it feels to use.

Reserve at least the listed 3 GB of available storage for the minimum configuration or 10 GB for the recommended configuration, and leave additional free space for patches and temporary files. Those figures are the store listing’s installation requirements, not a guarantee that the final release and updates will use exactly those amounts.

The i7-2600K minimum and i5-10400F recommendation show that CPU expectations also differ substantially. If lowering resolution barely changes performance, the processor or game-thread workload may be limiting you. In that case, reducing view distance, effects, and simulation-heavy options is more useful than lowering resolution again.

A practical tuning worksheet

Use this sequence when you want a repeatable setup rather than random slider changes:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Write down the GPU, CPU, RAM, operating system, display resolution, and game version.
  2. Apply the lowest preset and set 1280×720 or 1280×800 according to the display ratio.
  3. Disable motion blur and depth of field.
  4. Set shadows, reflections, effects, ambient occlusion, and view distance to Low or Off.
  5. Set textures to Low; test Medium only after a stable run.
  6. Choose a cap that survives the hardest repeatable scene.
  7. Change one option by one step, replay the same route, and keep the change only if frame pacing remains acceptable.
  8. Stop tuning when the image is readable and the cap is stable. Higher quality is not automatically better if it introduces investigation-breaking pauses.

What may change before release

The planned Steam release date is November 11, 2026, and the game is still an upcoming title at the time of writing. Developers can change rendering technology, presets, minimum requirements, shader behavior, or Steam Deck compatibility before and after launch. Treat the current Windows table as the published reference, not a permanent promise. Recheck the Steam listing and the developer’s official information after release before replacing a provisional setup with a definitive one.

For now, the most defensible low-end recommendation is a low preset at 720p or 800p, with texture quality preserved only when memory permits and the most GPU-intensive effects reduced first. For Steam Deck, the honest answer is that compatibility and performance remain unconfirmed; test cautiously, document the conditions, and avoid presenting an individual result as a guaranteed profile.
