The best follow-up depends on which part of Hellraiser: Revival you want more of. Choose Resident Evil 4 for action-forward survival horror, The Callisto Protocol for a third-person science-fiction survival-horror story, or SOMA for first-person underwater atmosphere and unsettling ideas. None is a direct substitute for Hellraiser’s Cenobite mythology or its particular body-horror identity; each takes a different route to fear.

| Game | Perspective | Best for | Setting | Platform information in the cited PlayStation description |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Resident Evil 4 | Third person | Action-forward survival horror and combat pressure | Not stated by the cited PlayStation description | PS4 and PS5 |
| The Callisto Protocol | Third person | Cinematic, narrative-driven science-fiction survival horror | Black Iron Prison on Jupiter’s moon Callisto, 300 years in the future | Not stated by the cited PlayStation description |
| SOMA | First person | Atmosphere, exploration and philosophical science-fiction horror | Underwater horrors beneath the ocean waves | Not stated by the cited PlayStation description |
That split is more useful than trying to rank the games on a single fear scale. The official pages establish genre and perspective, but they do not provide a standardized difficulty or intensity rating. The “closest” choice is therefore an editorial match for the experience you want, not a measured similarity score.

What Hellraiser: Revival gives you as a starting point
PlayStation describes Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival as a first-person action-horror survival game and lists the PS5 release date as October 8, 2026. The US PlayStation page showed a $39.99 full game and a $49.99 Deluxe Edition when accessed in 2026. Those are regional, time-sensitive snapshots rather than permanent prices, so check the store page for your country and edition before buying.

1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThe game is built for solo play. Its listed options include adjustable basic difficulty, tutorial reminders, manual saving and the ability to pause during gameplay or cinematics in offline play. Saber Interactive Support estimates around 8–12 hours, depending on playstyle. That is an approximate official FAQ estimate, not a controlled timing test.
#1 Best Overall
- Reawaken a Classic – Resident Evil 4 preserves the essence of the original game, now reconstructed using Capcom’s proprietary RE Engine to deliver realistic visuals and additional narrative depth to the iconic story that was not possible at the time of the original release.
- Modernized Gameplay – The team from 2019’s Resident Evil 2 returns to build upon the series’ modern approach to survival horror. Engage in frenzied combat with the Ganados villagers, explore a European village gripped by madness, and solve puzzles to access new areas and collect useful items for Leon and Ashley’s constant struggle to survive.
- Overwhelming Hordes – Face hordes of rabid enemies that threaten to overwhelm Leon with even more diverse methods of attack than in the original release.
- Survive on a Knife’s Edge – Years of intense training have taught Leon new ways to use his knife, helping to even the odds against the unrelenting onslaught of enemies. By parrying enemy attacks, you can avoid debilitating damage and evade lunging enemies seeking to grab Leon and hold him in place. Make smart use of scavenged knives to deliver precise finishing moves on vulnerable enemies, and even use the element of surprise to quietly dispatch unsuspecting foes before they break.

Saber says it expects to issue patches for post-launch issues but has no plans for future downloadable content or content updates. That matters when deciding what you want from your next game: Revival is presented as a self-contained single-player experience, while the three recommendations below are alternatives chosen for their different horror emphases.
Emil Esov, Saber Interactive’s game director, described the Cenobites this way: “Hellraiser separates itself from other pieces of horror media by having villains, the Cenobites, who aren’t so easily viewed as being morally bad.” That moral ambiguity is part of what the recommendations cannot reproduce. They can match a perspective, a science-fiction setting or a survival-horror rhythm, but not the specific mythology.
How to choose your next horror game
Choose by the kind of tension you want
- Want frequent combat decisions? Start with Resident Evil 4.
- Want a cinematic science-fiction nightmare in third person? Start with The Callisto Protocol.
- Want dread built through place, sound and ideas rather than action momentum? Start with SOMA.
Choose by camera perspective
Revival is first person. SOMA keeps that first-person viewpoint, so it is the most direct camera-level continuation. Resident Evil 4 and The Callisto Protocol use third person, giving you more visual distance from the protagonist and a different way to read danger in the environment.
Choose by setting
If you want another science-fiction setting, the two clearest options are The Callisto Protocol and SOMA, but they use science fiction differently. The Callisto Protocol frames survival horror around a prison on Callisto in the distant future. SOMA places its horrors beneath the ocean and uses that isolation to support an atmosphere-and-ideas approach. Resident Evil 4 is the pick when the setting matters less to you than the survival-horror situation and action loop.
Rank #2
- Intense horror experience with dark narrative
- Improved images and refined game mechanics included
- Players take on the role of Leon S Kennedy
- Mission to save the president's daughter from danger
- Challenging environments and strategic combat scenarios await
Resident Evil 4: the action-forward choice
Why it fits after Hellraiser: Revival
PlayStation identifies Resident Evil 4 as a survival-horror game and lists versions for PS4 and PS5. It is the strongest recommendation here for readers who want the pressure of fighting through horror situations rather than stepping away from danger to study it. The match is about emphasis: both belong to survival horror, but Resident Evil 4 is the most action-forward of the three alternatives.
The third-person camera changes the emotional distance. In Revival, a first-person view makes the immediate space around you the main visual concern. In Resident Evil 4, the third-person view lets you read the character, nearby threats and the broader combat space at once. That can make encounters feel more tactical and legible even when the situation remains dangerous.
What kind of player should choose it
- Choose it if your favorite moments in Revival are the ones that involve confronting threats directly.
- Choose it if you want survival-horror framing without giving up an action-led pace.
- Choose it if PS4 or PS5 access is important; those are the platforms listed by PlayStation.
What it does not reproduce
Resident Evil 4 is not a Cenobite story, and the available official description does not establish a Hellraiser-like mythology or body-horror identity. Its value as a follow-up is practical rather than literal: it gives you another survival-horror game in which action and danger are central. If the part of Revival you most want to preserve is first-person immersion or a morally ambiguous supernatural mythology, choose one of the other two games instead.
Buying and platform check
PlayStation lists Resident Evil 4 on PS4 and PS5. If you are shopping through a retailer, confirm that the listing is the intended platform and edition before purchase. A product title such as “Resident Evil 4 PS5 game” identifies a search phrase, not a guarantee about stock, physical format or price.

The Callisto Protocol: the cinematic science-fiction choice
Why it fits after Hellraiser: Revival
Choose The Callisto Protocol when you want a third-person, narrative-driven science-fiction survival-horror game. PlayStation describes it as taking place 300 years in the future, with protagonist Jacob Lee imprisoned in Black Iron Prison on Jupiter’s moon Callisto. That gives the recommendation a clear setting and premise rather than relying on a generic “space horror” label.
The third-person camera makes this a different follow-up from Revival despite the shared survival-horror category. You are not selecting it for a first-person match; you are selecting it for a cinematic science-fiction frame and a story that puts the protagonist inside a hostile institutional environment. The prison setting also gives the horror a contained, pressured geography, while the distant-future premise supplies the science-fiction context.
What kind of player should choose it
- Choose it if the idea of surviving a disaster in a futuristic prison appeals more than a supernatural setting.
- Choose it if you prefer third-person presentation but still want the game described explicitly as survival horror.
- Choose it if narrative framing and cinematic presentation are more important to you than preserving Revival’s first-person viewpoint.
What it does not reproduce
The game’s official description establishes its future setting, Jacob Lee’s imprisonment and its survival-horror framing. It does not establish a connection to Cenobite mythology, the moral ambiguity described by Saber’s game director or an exact Hellraiser-style body-horror identity. Treat it as a science-fiction alternative, not a continuation of the same fictional world.

SOMA: the first-person atmospheric choice
Why it fits after Hellraiser: Revival
SOMA is the recommendation for readers who want first-person horror that leans on atmosphere and ideas. PlayStation invites players to face horrors beneath the ocean waves and lists Horror among the game’s genres. The underwater setting gives the game an isolated, enclosed quality, while its emphasis is different from a combat-led survival-horror selection.
Rank #4
Because SOMA is first person, it preserves the viewpoint that Revival uses. That does not make the games mechanically identical. The reason to choose SOMA is the combination of immersion, underwater science fiction and conceptual unease, not an expectation of the same action-horror rhythm or Hellraiser mythology.
What kind of player should choose it
- Choose it if being surrounded by an unfamiliar environment is more appealing than a combat-heavy progression.
- Choose it if you want science fiction used to raise questions and sustain unease, not only to provide a backdrop.
- Choose it if maintaining a first-person viewpoint matters after playing Revival.
What it does not reproduce
SOMA is not a substitute for the Cenobites, the Lament Configuration or the specific moral framework of Barker’s setting. Its distinction is tonal and structural: underwater isolation, first-person presentation and an atmosphere-and-ideas focus. If you want the most direct action comparison, choose Resident Evil 4; if you want a prison-set third-person science-fiction story, choose The Callisto Protocol.

If you want more action
- Start with Resident Evil 4.
- Stay with it if combat pressure is the part of survival horror you value most.
- Move to The Callisto Protocol only if you want to trade some of that action-forward identity for a more explicitly cinematic science-fiction setting.
If you want more science fiction
- Choose The Callisto Protocol for a third-person prison story on Callisto.
- Choose SOMA instead if underwater isolation and conceptual atmosphere appeal more than cinematic third-person presentation.
If you want to stay in first person
- Pick SOMA.
- Expect a different emphasis: its recommendation rests on atmosphere, exploration and ideas rather than treating it as another action-forward survival-horror campaign.
Practical expectations before you move on
Do not use Revival’s length as a promise about the alternatives
Saber’s around-8–12-hour figure applies to Hellraiser: Revival and varies with playstyle. No comparable runtime figures for the three recommendations are established here, so do not infer that they will take the same amount of time.
Best Value
- As consciousness returns and you blink shadows from your eyes, all you can hear is the ringing in your ears. At first, you think it might be from the bells, as you recall racing through the Clock Tower in search of gears to sound the great bell.
- Then the blood drains from your face as the memories begin to surface. You thought you’d escaped Raccoon City. But it isn’t over yet.
- Continue your desperate escape with 11 hours of new gameplay, nine gripping new scenarios, three terrifying new enemy types, and two large-and-lethal bosses.
- This expansion will drastically change the course of your Resident Evil 3: The Board Game campaign, taking you beyond the built-up city streets to brand new locations plagued by new enemies.
- But new enemies aren’t your only threat. To move forward, you must adapt to new gameplay mechanics introduced by the changed environment. Creep silently through the City Hospital. Wade through flood water in the City Park.
Check edition, region and platform
The $39.99 and $49.99 figures are US PlayStation snapshots accessed in 2026, not worldwide prices. Editions and store listings can change. The same caution applies to retailer pages: verify platform, edition, physical or digital format and current price before paying.
Plan around the kind of horror you actually want
Difficulty labels and broad genre tags are not enough to predict whether a game will suit you. Decide first whether you want action combat, a third-person science-fiction narrative or first-person atmosphere. That choice is more reliable than looking for a single “closest to Hellraiser” answer, because none of these games is documented as sharing Revival’s Cenobite mythology.
Verdict
Resident Evil 4 is the best next game when you want the most action-forward survival-horror option. The Callisto Protocol is the better choice for a third-person science-fiction story centered on Jacob Lee and Black Iron Prison. SOMA is the right follow-up when first-person immersion, underwater isolation and idea-driven atmosphere matter more than combat. Pick by that emphasis, and you will get a purposeful change of flavor instead of expecting any one game to recreate Hellraiser: Revival exactly.
