Insomniac Games has made acclaimed games across multiple franchises and eras, but the available catalog evidence supports a careful ranking of eight identifiable titles—not a defensible top ten. This list weighs Metacritic scores alongside release era and the breadth of the studio’s portfolio; it is an editorial selection, not a claim that critic scores settle which game is best.
How this ranking works
Metacritic’s developer catalog, as crawled in 2026, lists 36 Insomniac games and an average career score of 79. Its highest-scoring entry is Spyro: Year of the Dragon at 91, while Fuse is lowest at 62. Those figures provide one comparison point, not a complete measure of lasting appeal, franchise importance, or accessibility to a new player.

The ranking below uses the listed Metascores as a reference and considers release era and representation across the studio’s catalog. The available evidence does not include enough title-specific descriptions or review details to support confident gameplay comparisons or placements for ten distinct games. Rather than fill the final two spots with guesses, this list includes the eight titles for which the catalog supplies a name and a score.

-
Spyro: Year of the Dragon
Metascore: 91. This 1990s-era entry is the highest-rated game in Metacritic’s Insomniac developer catalog as crawled in 2026. Its position here recognizes that studio standouts predate the recent Marvel releases; the score alone cannot establish how well it suits a particular player today.

Which Insomniac game should you play first?
- For a recent PS5 release: Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has the highest listed score among the recent titles here.
- For Ratchet & Clank: choose between the PS5 Rift Apart listing and the PS4 Ratchet & Clank (2016) listing; the former has the higher score in the catalog.
- For the Marvel’s Spider-Man series: begin with Marvel’s Spider-Man (2018) if release order matters to you. The studio’s official catalog identifies three games in the series, but the supplied evidence does not establish a recommended play order beyond their dates.
- For a different platform: Sunset Overdrive has Xbox One and PC listings; Stormland is listed for PC.
Why this is not a full top ten
Insomniac’s official catalog also highlights Spyro the Dragon, Resistance, and other parts of its portfolio, but the evidence available here does not identify and score enough additional individual games to rank ten titles responsibly. Metacritic’s catalog names Fuse as its lowest-scoring entry, but provides no selected score detail for it in the comparison data. Adding it—or an unspecified Resistance game—to complete a ten-place list would create a ranking without a consistent, supported basis.
Metacritic scores and release details above are attributed to its developer catalog as crawled in 2026. The studio’s official catalog is the basis for the broader franchise scope. No detailed gameplay claims are made where the available evidence does not substantiate them.
