It updates the 2002 arena fighter with 12 kaiju, recreated locations, local and online Versus play, and rebuilt visuals. Until that release, GigaBash is the best modern substitute: it delivers four-player city-smashing battles on current platforms and offers a paid pack of official Godzilla characters. For a PlayStation 2-era experience with a 1950s monster-movie atmosphere, War of the Monsters remains the strongest retro choice.
Those three games answer different versions of the same question: do you want the original game’s exact structure, a currently available modern arena brawler, or an older game with similar destruction and film-inspired tone?

| Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered | The closest match to the 2002 game | 12 kaiju; eight locations with day/night variants; unique movesets | Local and online Versus/Melee modes | Announced for November 3, 2026; pre-order and physical stock can vary by region |
| GigaBash | A modern, immediately playable substitute | Original Titans and heroes; official Godzilla characters available through paid DLC | One to four players, local or online; cross-play across supported platforms | Digital versions on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, Epic and PC storefronts |
| War of the Monsters | Retro kaiju-film mood and destructive stages | Ten giant beasts; traversal-focused arenas | PS2-era multiplayer; current online support is not established | Retro or used-market purchase; verify a current regional listing |
If you want one answer rather than a shortlist, wait for the remaster if you specifically want Destroy All Monsters Melee with modern presentation and online play. Buy or play GigaBash now if the priority is a current platform and a large, chaotic arena. Choose War of the Monsters when the appeal is its older monster-movie identity rather than licensed Godzilla characters.
What makes a good follow-up to Destroy All Monsters Melee?
Destroy All Monsters Melee is not a conventional one-on-one fighter. Its appeal comes from several systems working at once: enormous creatures share a destructible urban arena, attacks include close-range strikes and ranged energy, and matches feel like miniature disaster films. A useful successor therefore needs more than a monster-shaped character select screen.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
There are four practical tests:
- Scale: Fighters should occupy a city or similarly large stage, with movement and attacks that feel heavyweight rather than like ordinary character sprites.
- Destruction: Buildings, hazards or stage objects should be part of the match, not just an unchanging background.
- Roster identity: Monsters need distinct attacks and roles. A large list of near-identical creatures is less valuable than a smaller roster with recognizable movesets.
- Multiplayer fit: The game’s local, online and cross-play options determine whether it works for a couch group, a remote group or solo practice.
The remaster passes the first three tests most directly because it is an updated version of the same game. GigaBash interprets the formula with contemporary online infrastructure and original Titans. War of the Monsters is older, but it captures the destruction and genre mood that made the PS2 game memorable.
Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered — the direct match
Why it is the obvious first choice
Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered is the only option here built as a direct update of the game you are trying to follow. Atari describes it as a kaiju-versus-kaiju fighter with melee attacks, energy blasts, special Rage Mode strikes and Versus/Melee play. That means the core rhythm—close in, trade heavy blows, use ranged powers, then spend a powerful special at the right moment—should be familiar to returning players.
Atari’s product description summarizes the premise plainly: “Choose your monster and battle it out with a range of brutal attacks through recreated cities and other locations.” The wording matters because the arenas are not incidental scenery; the recreated locations are part of the fantasy of fighting through a populated city.

What the remaster adds
Nintendo’s listing identifies 12 kaiju, eight locations with day/night variants, unique movesets for all 12 monsters and visuals remastered from the ground up. Day and night versions expand the stage set without pretending they are entirely new arenas, while the individual movesets preserve the reason to learn more than one monster.
The remaster also adds online multiplayer alongside local play. That is a significant practical change for a game whose original audience may now be spread across different homes. The listing uses Versus/Melee language, so expect competitive and party-style matches rather than a story campaign being presented as the main attraction.
Release timing and buying cautions
The announced launch date is November 3, 2026. As of October 18, 2026, that is a forthcoming release, not a game that can be assumed to be playable today. Pre-order windows, launch bonuses, stock and physical editions can change by territory, especially for the Nintendo Switch 2 edition. Check the regional Atari or Nintendo product page immediately before ordering.

Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
The safest expectation is a current-platform release with both local and online multiplayer. Do not treat a retailer’s listing as proof of identical contents in every country: edition names, language support and physical availability can differ even when the underlying game is the same.

- Players who want the old game’s exact style of four-way monster brawling rather than a new interpretation.
- Fans who value official Godzilla kaiju and recognizable attacks over an original roster.
- Groups that need online matches but still want local multiplayer when everyone is in the same room.

Its main limitation is timing: anyone wanting to play immediately needs another game while waiting for launch.
GigaBash — the best modern alternative you can play now
How its battles compare
PlayStation describes GigaBash as a “4-player arena-brawler featuring giant monsters, kaijus & heroes.” That places it in the same broad family as Destroy All Monsters Melee, but it is not a remake or sequel. Its tone combines the fast item-and-arena chaos associated with Power Stone and Super Smash Bros. with the scale of classic kaiju cinema.
The practical result is a game built for groups. Matches support one to four players, and the arenas are designed around movement, attacks and environmental disruption rather than a static ring. Steam lists fully destructible cityscapes, local and online play, and cross-play across Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, Epic and PC storefronts. Cross-play is the key advantage for a mixed-platform group, although the exact matchmaking process and account requirements can depend on the platform version.
Roster and Godzilla content
The base game uses original Titans and heroes, so it does not reproduce the Destroy All Monsters roster. Players who specifically want licensed Godzilla characters can buy the paid Godzilla 4 Kaiju Pack DLC. That pack is an optional addition, not a replacement for the original game’s full roster, and availability or bundle pricing should be checked in the store attached to your platform.

Platforms and setup
Digital listings cover Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, Epic and PC storefronts. Before buying for a group, confirm that every player is using a supported version and that cross-play is enabled for the chosen mode. Local multiplayer is the simpler option: connect the required controllers, select the local mode and add up to four players. Online play requires each participant to use the platform’s normal network account and multiplayer access rules.
Who should choose it?
- Players who need a current game immediately rather than waiting for November 2026.
- Friends divided among consoles and PC who want cross-play.
- Groups that prefer four-player matches to a smaller duel format.
- Players who are happy with original monsters but want the option of official Godzilla DLC.
GigaBash is less useful if your priority is reproducing every move, arena and character from the 2002 game. It is a modern cousin, not the same fighter in a new wrapper.
War of the Monsters — the retro cousin
Why it still fits the brief
War of the Monsters is the historical choice for players who want giant creatures, destructible environments and a 1950s science-fiction and kaiju-film mood. The cited reference describes ten giant beasts and stages built for traversal and destruction. That combination gives matches a different texture from a flat fighting-game stage: positioning, climbing or moving through the arena and using the environment are part of the encounter.

What to expect from its age
This is a PlayStation 2-era title. Its presentation, controls and loading behavior belong to that generation, and its current online status is not established. A reader should plan around local play and the practical question of access: original hardware, a legal emulation setup or a verified modern storefront listing may be necessary, depending on region.
Current storefront availability was not established, so do not assume that a search result represents a supported digital release. Verify the seller, region and platform before paying. Used discs can also vary in condition, and a console or compatible adapter may add more cost than the game itself.

Who should choose it?
- Players who enjoy the look and tone of mid-century monster movies.
- Retro fans who want stage traversal and destruction to matter as much as direct attacks.
- Collectors willing to solve hardware or availability issues.
- Anyone who has already played modern arena brawlers and wants a mechanically distinct older alternative.
It is not the best choice for someone seeking online matchmaking, current-platform convenience or official Godzilla characters.

If you want the closest possible sequel
Choose Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered. Its 12-kaiju roster, Rage Mode attacks, recreated locations and Versus/Melee structure are the nearest continuation of the game you already know. The only reason not to start there is that its announced launch is November 3, 2026.
If you want to play tonight
Choose GigaBash. It is the practical answer for a current console or PC, especially when your group uses different platforms. Start with the base roster, then consider the Godzilla 4 Kaiju Pack if licensed characters are central to your decision.
If you want the strongest retro atmosphere
Choose War of the Monsters. Expect to spend more time verifying access and hardware than you would with a current digital game, but the reward is a distinct PS2-era interpretation of destructive monster combat.

All three can make sense, but for different reasons. For a newly assembled group, GigaBash has the least hardware friction; for returning fans, the remaster preserves the familiar format.

If official Godzilla characters are non-negotiable
Limit the shortlist to the remaster and GigaBash with its paid Godzilla DLC. War of the Monsters intentionally uses original creatures, so it cannot provide the licensed roster you are looking for.
Buying and availability checklist
Use this checklist before you commit to a purchase:
- Confirm the release state. The remaster is announced for November 3, 2026; a pre-order page is not evidence that the game is already playable.
- Match the platform to your group. For GigaBash, verify that every player is on one of the listed Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, Epic or PC versions and check cross-play details for the desired mode.
- Separate base game and DLC. The Godzilla 4 Kaiju Pack is paid content for GigaBash; do not assume it is included in every edition or bundle.
- Check regional listings. Physical stock, language options, edition names and launch timing can vary by country, especially for the remaster.
- Audit retro requirements. For War of the Monsters, confirm disc condition, console compatibility and whether the listing is an authorized modern release before paying.
Common mistakes when choosing a kaiju fighter
Assuming every monster game is a one-to-one replacement
A game can feature giant creatures and still play nothing like Destroy All Monsters Melee. The remaster is the direct mechanical match; GigaBash changes the roster and modernizes the format; War of the Monsters emphasizes retro presentation and traversal. Decide which part of the original experience you are replacing before comparing screenshots or character lists.
Ignoring multiplayer logistics
“Supports multiplayer” can mean local matches, online matchmaking, or both. The remaster is described with local and online play, GigaBash explicitly lists one-to-four-player local and online modes with cross-play, and War of the Monsters has no established current online service. Those are different use cases, not interchangeable checkboxes.
Buying a retro listing without checking the platform
A used PS2 copy may require hardware you no longer own. A digital storefront result may be delisted, region-locked or unrelated to a supported release. Verify the platform and seller first; the game’s reputation does not guarantee convenient access in 2026.
Expecting the Godzilla DLC to recreate the entire original roster
GigaBash‘s Godzilla 4 Kaiju Pack adds official characters, but the base game remains a separate roster of original Titans and heroes. If you want all 12 kaiju and the remastered version of the old structure, the forthcoming remaster is the more direct choice.
Verdict
Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered is the answer for fans asking what to play after the original: it preserves the kaiju-versus-kaiju format while adding rebuilt visuals, online multiplayer, 12 monsters and eight day/night locations. Until its November 3, 2026 launch, GigaBash is the best modern alternative because it is available across major console and PC storefronts, supports four-player local or online battles and offers cross-play. War of the Monsters is worth seeking out when the goal is a retro, destructible monster-movie experience rather than a current online game or official Godzilla roster.
