For a practical endgame Long Sword build in Monster Hunter Wilds, use the Gogmazios-upgraded Headsman’s Hamus with armor and skills that support affinity, critical damage, and sharpness. The setup below was reviewed for Ver.1.042.00.00, post–Title Update 4, on August 4, 2026; it is a baseline, not a requirement to have ideal weapon rolls or a particular random talisman.
Endgame Long Sword build: gear and skills

The target skill package is Agitator 5, Weakness Exploit 5, Critical Boost 5, Master’s Touch 3, Maximum Might 3, Counterstrike 3, and Quick Sheathe 3. If you are still working toward the recommended weapon, it lists Blazing Rafel and the Zoh Shia Long Sword as interim choices. See the post-TU4 endgame build reference.
What to keep if your gear is incomplete
Preserve Quick Sheathe and a workable sharpness plan before trading them for secondary damage or comfort skills. The exact balance depends on how reliably you counter and how often the hunt gives you openings to maintain offensive skills.

How the build’s skills work in practice
Affinity, critical damage, and sharpness
Weakness Exploit and Agitator are broad offensive priorities in the cited build guidance. Master’s Touch helps manage sharpness, but its value depends on having enough affinity for its effect to matter. Treat the package as a coherent set of priorities: critical output is more useful when you can keep affinity and sharpness functioning through the hunt.
Conditional skills depend on uptime
Maximum Might requires avoiding stamina use to keep its benefit active, so its contribution depends on how you move and manage stamina. Counterstrike requires a qualifying block, hit, or parry activation; it may contribute less in multiplayer when you have fewer reliable activation opportunities. These are conditional skills, not permanent bonuses. The Long Sword endgame build guidance discusses these uptime considerations.

- Hunt giant nature-infused bests – Survive their attacks, learn from their behaviors, and use your Karakuri and your weapons in combination to cut these creatures down to size.
- Craft your hunting grounds – You are the only one in Azuma able to wield the Karakuri technology.
- Hunt in a pack, or be a lone wolf – In WILD HEARTS you can face the Kemono alone or unite with up to two friends (or other players) to stalk and hunt your prey.
- Gear up to hunt, hunt to gear up – Create your character, then gather materials from each hunt and build an array of armor and weapons.
When to consider a different weapon
The general-purpose status weapon is not automatically the best choice for every matchup. The endgame reference notes that an element-matched Artian Long Sword may outperform it against a favorable target. That is a matchup-specific option, rather than a reason to delay using the baseline until you have a full set of ideal Artian upgrades.
Use the Long Sword’s Spirit Gauge loop to guide your build
The Long Sword’s core loop is to build Spirit Gauge with controlled attacks, improve its gauge state, then spend it when a safe conversion is available. A damage-focused set pays off most when your choices let you use that loop consistently. The Long Sword guide describes the weapon’s core play pattern.

Counter practice and conditional-skill uptime affect real performance. A damage-leaning endgame set is not necessarily the set a player will use most consistently.

If you are not at endgame, a separate progression reference describes an HR 30 example built around Barina Flamberge IV. It uses Guardian Ebony and Gore armor pieces, Sheathe Charm II, and a Sheath jewel; its reported skills include Quick Sheathe 3, Burst 4, Antivirus 3, and Divine Blessing 3. This is a progression snapshot, not a substitute for the endgame setup, and the reference attributes its build to creator NinoMMO before its database refit. Details are in the HR 30 Long Sword build reference, updated September 27, 2026 for Ver.1.042.

What should a Long Sword build prioritize first?
Prioritize affinity and dependable raw damage, then a sharpness plan that fits your affinity. Keep comfort that supports reliable counter practice, and value conditional damage according to how often your actual Spirit Gauge and counter loop activates it. Gear availability matters too: use the progression build while leveling, then move toward the endgame set as its pieces become available. The cited endgame setup was reviewed for Ver.1.042.00.00 after Title Update 4; it should not be read as confirmation of a later patch state.
