Marvel’s Spider-Man 2: the modern action-adventure pick
Developed by Insomniac Games and published by PlayStation, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is a single-player action-adventure game. Marvel lists its release date as October 20, 2023, and its platforms as PS5 and PC. Sony’s original launch announcement described it as launching exclusively on PS5; that launch-era wording does not describe its full current platform availability, so check the relevant storefront and edition before buying.

The game lets you switch between Peter Parker and Miles Morales during the adventure. Its appeal is the contrast between two Spider-Men within one story and a larger New York setting. It is not a co-op game: two playable heroes does not mean two players can join the campaign.
You can follow the sequel without having played the earlier games, according to PlayStation’s FAQ. For more character and story context, PlayStation recommends the preceding games: Marvel’s Spider-Man, followed by Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, then Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. The FAQ places the sequel roughly nine months after Miles Morales, which itself is set a year after Marvel’s Spider-Man.

Choose Guardians or Midnight Suns for a different pace
Guardians of the Galaxy: a single-player ensemble adventure
Choose Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy if you want the group dynamic to be central instead of spending the whole story as one masked hero. It is a single-player team adventure, not a multiplayer substitute for a co-op game. GamesRadar’s list says prior familiarity with the Guardians is not necessary to enjoy it.
Midnight Suns: tactical, card-based combat
Marvel’s Midnight Suns is the clearest choice here for players who prefer planning turns to continuous real-time action. Take-Two describes its structure as a blend of RPG storytelling, relationships, customization and progression, tactical strategy, and card-based combat. The publisher’s December 2, 2022 launch announcement listed PC, PS5, and Xbox Series platforms; check current platform and edition listings before purchase.

Check platform and play style before buying
- For single-player action: Spider-Man 2 is explicitly single-player; Peter and Miles are characters you switch between, not separate player slots.
- For story and team chemistry: Guardians of the Galaxy puts an ensemble at the center of a solo adventure.
