Memorial Day 2026 was Monday, May 25, and its deals have ended. The prices in this guide are archived snapshots from the 2026 shopping period, not live offers. Use them as benchmarks when evaluating a future Memorial Day sale—or when judging whether a similar discount is genuinely good today.
The strongest value was concentrated in RTX 5060–5080 gaming laptops, OLED and ultrawide monitors, standalone GPUs, 2TB SSDs, and carefully configured desktops. The best bargains were not necessarily the products with the largest advertised markdowns: GPU power limits, VRAM, memory, storage type, display quality, seller status, and warranty terms mattered just as much as price.

Best gaming-laptop values
Under $800: buy only after checking the compromises
The Acer Nitro V with an RTX 5050 at an observed $798 was an attractive entry point into current-generation Nvidia laptop graphics. It was not automatically a good purchase, however. Affordable gaming laptops may pair the GPU with a dim or slow panel, 8GB of RAM, a 512GB SSD, or a low power limit.
For a durable purchase, look for 16GB of RAM, a 1TB SSD, a 144Hz-or-faster display, and a clearly stated GPU power limit. PC Gamer highlighted an approximately 85W implementation in affordable laptops; the same GPU name at a higher TGP can perform materially better. Treat an inexpensive low-TGP laptop as a value compromise, not as equivalent to a full-power model.
$800–$1,200: the practical sweet spot
The Lenovo LOQ 15 was listed at $1,050 by PC Gamer, while TechRadar reported another Best Buy configuration at $749. Those prices should not be compared directly without matching the CPU, RAM, SSD, screen, and exact SKU.
An RTX 5060 laptop with 16GB RAM and 1TB storage was the most sensible target for many buyers. It suits 1080p gaming and can support higher-resolution output with appropriate settings, upscaling, or frame-generation features. Check whether memory is upgradeable, whether a second M.2 slot is available, and whether the included charger can sustain full performance.
The Acer Nitro V 16S with an RTX 5070 at $1,200 offered a stronger GPU tier without reaching flagship pricing. Verify cooling, TGP, display resolution, and CPU configuration before paying more: a high-resolution panel can make a laptop GPU work harder while a weak screen can undermine an otherwise good deal.
$1,200–$1,800: performance and creator use
The MSI Vector 16 HX AI with an RTX 5070 Ti was observed at $1,473. A configuration in this range can make sense for demanding games, video work, rendering, and GPU-accelerated applications, especially with 32GB of RAM and at least a 1TB SSD.

The Lenovo Legion Pro 7i was reported at $1,749 in Tom’s Hardware’s May deal archive. It was potentially exceptional value when equipped with 32GB of memory and an RTX 5070-class GPU, but the product family includes multiple configurations. Confirm the sale SKU rather than relying on the Legion Pro 7i name alone.
High end: RTX 5080 desktop replacements
The MSI Vector 16 HX AI with an RTX 5080 was listed at $2,339 in PC Gamer’s roundup. This is the kind of laptop to consider when portability is non-negotiable and sustained performance matters more than weight, battery life, or quiet operation. Confirm the panel, memory, SSD capacity, charger size, weight, webcam, ports, and warranty before treating the price as a bargain.
Recommended Free Tools
For every laptop, record the exact CPU generation, laptop GPU model, TGP, RAM capacity and upgradeability, SSD capacity and second-slot availability, panel resolution, refresh rate, panel type, brightness, claimed response time, battery capacity, weight, thickness, operating-system edition, and return policy. Coupon-, financing-, trade-in-, and membership-only prices should be labeled separately.
Laptop or desktop?
| Choose a laptop when… | Choose a desktop when… |
|---|---|
| You need one device for travel, work, school, and gaming. | Maximum performance per dollar is the priority. |
| The deal includes a strong display, 16GB or more RAM, and an adequately powered GPU. | You already own a monitor, keyboard, and mouse. |
| You value a complete system with a battery, webcam, speakers, and operating system. | You want future GPU, memory, storage, cooling, and CPU upgrades. |
| You accept less serviceability and potentially more noise. | You need better thermals and sustained performance. |
Do not compare a $1,200 laptop directly with a $1,200 desktop. The laptop already includes a display, keyboard, battery, webcam, speakers, Wi-Fi, and usually Windows. A desktop may still require a monitor, operating system, wireless adapter, input devices, audio equipment, and extra storage.
GPU deals worth using as benchmarks
PC Gamer recorded these Memorial Day 2026 price points:
| GPU | Archived price | Typical target |
|---|---|---|
| GeForce RTX 5080 | $1,290 | High-end 4K |
| GeForce RTX 5070 Ti | $900 | High-refresh 1440p |
| GeForce RTX 5070 | $599 | 1440p |
| GeForce RTX 5060 Ti 16GB | $550 | 1440p with stronger VRAM headroom |
| GeForce RTX 5060 Ti 8GB | $380 | Budget 1080p |
| GeForce RTX 5060 | $350 | 1080p |
| GeForce RTX 5050 | $290 | Entry-level gaming |
| Radeon RX 9070 XT | $700 | High-performance raster gaming |
| Radeon RX 9070 | $600 | 1440p |
| Radeon RX 9060 XT 16GB | $430 | 1440p and demanding textures |
| Radeon RX 9060 XT 8GB | $360 | Lower-cost 1080p |
| Intel Arc B580 | $304 | Budget gaming where software support fits |
| Intel Arc B570 | $260 | Lower-cost 1080p |
For 1080p, the RTX 5060, RX 9060 XT, and Arc B580 were sensible categories to watch. For 1440p, consider the RTX 5070, RTX 5060 Ti 16GB, RX 9070, or RX 9070 XT. For 4K, the RTX 5080 or RX 9070 XT may be appropriate depending on settings, game, upscaling, and frame generation.

- Next-gen 12,000 DPI HERO optical sensor delivers unrivaled gaming performance, accuracy and power efficiency
- Advanced LIGHTSPEED wireless gaming mouse for super-fast 1 ms response time and faster than wired performance
- Ultra-long battery life gives you up to 250 hours of continuous gaming on a single AA battery
- Lightweight mechanical design and classic shape for maximum maneuverability, durability and comfort
- Compact, portable design with convenient built-in storage for included USB wireless receiver
Favor 16GB of VRAM when the premium is reasonable, particularly for higher resolutions and demanding texture settings. Nvidia deserves extra consideration when ray tracing and frame generation are central to your games; AMD and Intel may offer better raster value depending on local pricing and game support. Do not call any card “future-proof.” Say instead that a larger VRAM capacity is better positioned for demanding textures and resolutions.
Before buying a standalone card, check the power supply’s wattage and connector, card length and thickness, case airflow, CPU balance, and monitor resolution. A GPU discount can disappear once a PSU, case, processor, or display must also be replaced.
Monitor opportunities: gaming versus work
PCWorld’s 2026 coverage included the Samsung ViewFinity 34-inch S65TC at $399.99, reported as $400 off. It illustrated the productivity-monitor opportunity: a large ultrawide can be useful for code, timelines, documents, and multitasking, but the value depends on resolution, refresh rate, USB-C support, power delivery, and stand ergonomics.
| Use case | Target display |
|---|---|
| Competitive esports | 240Hz–500Hz 1080p or 1440p with strong motion handling |
| AAA gaming | 1440p OLED or fast IPS at roughly 165Hz–240Hz |
| 4K gaming | 4K at 144Hz–240Hz with adaptive sync |
| Video editing | 4K IPS or OLED with broad color coverage and calibration controls |
| Programming and office work | 4K 27–32-inch or 34-inch ultrawide IPS |
| Mixed gaming and work | OLED only if static-content precautions and burn-in coverage are acceptable |
Historical 2025 coverage showed the kinds of Memorial Day discounts that may recur: Samsung Odyssey OLED G9 and Odyssey G8 displays, fast Asus ROG panels, Acer Nitro monitors, and inexpensive 24-inch 1080p screens. Those prices are not 2026 offers; see the archived Laptop Mag coverage only as category context.

When OLED is the wrong bargain
OLED delivers excellent contrast and fast pixel response, but static taskbars, IDE windows, browser chrome, and spreadsheets create burn-in concerns over long periods. Also check automatic brightness limiting, glossy reflections, text rendering from the subpixel layout, calibration, and whether the warranty explicitly covers burn-in. A large discount does not make an OLED the best all-day development monitor.
Power-user laptops
Video editing and content creation
Start with 32GB of RAM for serious 4K work and consider 64GB for heavier timelines, effects, or compositing. Fast scratch storage, sustained CPU performance, hardware video encode/decode support, an accurate display, and SD-card access can matter more than gaming branding.

Software development
For containers, virtual machines, IDEs, browsers, and local services, 32GB of RAM is a practical target. Prefer a strong modern CPU, at least a 1TB SSD—2TB is more comfortable—an excellent keyboard, useful USB-C or Thunderbolt connectivity, and Linux compatibility if required. Do not assume an ARM-based Windows laptop supports every specialized tool, driver, virtual machine, or development workflow.
Local AI, rendering, and 3D
Prioritize GPU VRAM, system memory, cooling, sustained power limits, and application compatibility. CUDA, ROCm, or software-specific support may determine whether a GPU is useful; an “AI PC” label alone does not establish performance for a particular workload. A desktop is usually the safer platform when future memory, GPU, or cooling upgrades matter.

SSD deals
Archived 2025 examples included a Samsung 990 EVO 2TB NVMe drive at $119, Samsung T7 Shield 2TB portable storage at $159, Kingston NV3 1TB at $60, Crucial X6 SE 2TB at $111, and SanDisk Extreme Pro 2TB at $195. These are not current prices.
For an internal SSD, check PCIe generation, TLC versus QLC NAND, DRAM cache, sustained-write behavior after the pseudo-SLC cache fills, endurance, warranty, cloning software, heatsink requirements, and platform compatibility. QLC or DRAM-less storage can be perfectly reasonable for a game library or general storage, but it is less attractive for sustained professional writes, large scratch files, or frequent media production.
For a portable SSD, verify the real USB speed, cable, thermal throttling, enclosure protection, and whether the host port supports the advertised rate.

Docks and hubs
Before buying a dock, identify whether the laptop supports USB-C, USB4, or Thunderbolt, how many external displays are needed, the desired resolution and refresh rate, power-delivery wattage, Ethernet speed, SD-card speed, and whether a charger is included. Confirm that the laptop accepts charging through that port.
DisplayLink docks depend on software drivers and behave differently from native video output. macOS can impose additional multi-monitor limitations. A USB-C label alone does not guarantee Thunderbolt speeds, high-refresh display output, or charging.
Relevant product categories included Plugable, Anker, and CalDigit docks; portable monitors such as Asus ZenScreen; and peripherals from Logitech, Razer, SteelSeries, Corsair, and Microsoft. Archived 2025 examples included the Logitech G915 TKL at $120, Razer Basilisk V3 at $44, Logitech G502 Hero at $39, Xbox Wireless Controller at $49, Plugable 12-in-1 dock at $151, and Asus ZenScreen at $159. Treat these as historical reference points, not live prices.
Warnings that matter more than the headline discount
- Same GPU name, different laptop performance: always find the TGP and cooling profile.
- 8GB VRAM: it can be adequate for lower-resolution gaming but leaves less room for demanding textures and newer workloads than a comparable 16GB card.
- 16GB system RAM: acceptable for ordinary gaming, but restrictive for development, virtual machines, editing, and heavy multitasking.
- QLC or DRAM-less SSD: often fine for games and general storage, less suitable for sustained professional writes.
- OLED: evaluate burn-in coverage, text clarity, reflections, and brightness behavior.
- Marketplace listings: verify seller, condition, warranty, import status, accessories, and return handling.
- “Was” prices: compare with recent street prices, not only manufacturer MSRP.
- Product-family names: retailers may substitute a smaller SSD, less RAM, slower panel, lower-power GPU, or different CPU.
When to skip Memorial Day
Wait when the discount is marginal, the base configuration is under-specced, a replacement generation is imminent, the return policy is poor, or the seller and warranty cannot be verified. A deal is also easy to overvalue when it requires financing, membership, trade-in credit, or an unwanted bundle.
For retailer-level signals, Dell’s official deals page has advertised free shipping, 30-day returns, and rewards language, but terms vary by product and date. Check the product-specific policy rather than treating those benefits as universal. Other sale destinations included Best Buy, Newegg, Lenovo, Dell and Alienware, and Tom’s Hardware’s 2026 sale coverage.
