There is no single best Quest game for everyone. Your headset matters, as does your tolerance for artificial movement, interest in horror, need for standalone play, and whether you own a gaming PC. This guide separates games that run directly on Quest 2 and Quest 3 from Quest 3-generation exclusives and PC VR games streamed to a Quest headset.

Best games that run directly on Quest
Beat Saber — best overall
Access: Native Quest title; confirm the current Quest 2 and Quest 3 listing. Comfort: Moderate. Best for: Nearly everyone, especially newcomers, short sessions and exercise-style play.
#1 Best Overall
- CARDBOARD MONKENAUT — Get our best Gorilla Tag bundle yet with this Amazon exclusive deal. Purchase Meta Quest 3 to get exclusive items, including the Gorilla Space Program Suit and Helmet, plus 2,000 SHINY ROCKS.
- NEARLY 30% LEAP IN RESOLUTION — Experience every thrill in breathtaking detail with sharp graphics and stunning 4K+ Infinite Display.
- NO WIRES, MORE FUN — Break free from cords. Game, play and explore in immersive worlds — untethered and without limits.
- 2X GRAPHICAL PROCESSING POWER — Enjoy lightning-fast load times and next-gen graphics for smooth gaming powered by the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 processor.
- EXPERIENCE VIRTUAL REALITY — Blend virtual objects with your physical space and experience two worlds at once in your VR headset.
Beat Saber remains the safest all-purpose recommendation because its core idea is immediately clear: slash incoming blocks to music while avoiding obstacles. It uses motion controllers naturally, scales from casual play to demanding score chasing, and works whether you have five minutes or an evening.
It is not a narrative adventure, and its total cost can rise considerably if you buy multiple music packs. Choose it for rhythm, movement and replayability—not exploration or story.
Asgard’s Wrath 2 — best large-scale native adventure
Access: Native Quest recommendation; verify supported models on the current store page. Comfort: Moderate to intense. Best for: Players who want a substantial action RPG without connecting a PC.
Asgard’s Wrath 2 is one of the strongest answers to the question, “What is the big game I can play entirely on my headset?” It combines combat, exploration, character progression and a long-form single-player structure. The appeal comes from physically wielding weapons, interacting with the environment and switching between different styles of play rather than simply viewing a conventional game world through a headset.
It is a poor first choice for someone who is still learning VR comfort, and its size makes it less suitable for occasional five-minute sessions. Do not assume that every Quest 3 list means it is Quest 3-exclusive; check the current official listing.
Resident Evil 4 — best story-driven horror for Quest owners
Access: Established standalone Quest title; confirm the current supported headset list. Comfort: Moderate. Best for: A focused campaign with shooting, exploration and horror.
This is the classic Resident Evil 4 adaptation, not the later Resident Evil 4 Remake. Its VR design makes aiming, reloading and handling weapons physical actions, while the campaign provides a clearer beginning and end than many repeatable VR games.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesExpect frightening encounters, artificial movement and combat pressure. Use teleport movement, snap turning or a seated mode if available, and stop as soon as discomfort begins. Check the store page for the current edition, price and included content.
The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners — best physics-driven survival horror
Access: Native Quest recommendation; verify the current edition and headset support. Comfort: Moderate to intense. Best for: Survival, scavenging and hands-on combat.
Saints & Sinners makes VR interaction central to survival. You search environments, manage limited resources and physically use weapons rather than relying on a conventional button-driven inventory. It is a stronger choice than a simple shooting gallery if you want tension and improvisation.
Violence is graphic, and smooth locomotion can be demanding. Distinguish the original game from its sequel and any bundled DLC before purchasing.

- CARDBOARD MONKENAUT — Get our best Gorilla Tag bundle yet with this Amazon exclusive deal. Purchase Meta Quest 3S to get exclusive items, including the Gorilla Space Program Suit and Helmet, plus 2,000 SHINY ROCKS.
- NO WIRES, MORE FUN — Break free from cords. Game, play and explore immersive worlds — untethered and without limits.

- 2+ HOURS OF BATTERY LIFE — Charge less, play longer and stay in the action with an improved battery that keeps up. *Based on the graphic performance of the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 platform vs the Meta Quest 2 platform.
Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR — best stealth and climbing adventure
Access: Native Quest title; check the current supported models. Comfort: Moderate to intense. Best for: Stealth, climbing and recognizable franchise settings.
Nexus VR adapts the series’ core ideas—climbing, hiding, scouting and striking—from a first-person perspective. Looking around rooftops and physically drawing weapons gives the familiar formula a distinctly VR identity.
It involves frequent artificial movement and vertical traversal, so it is not an automatic recommendation for motion-sensitive players. It is best for owners who want a conventional adventure structure with VR-specific interaction.
SUPERHOT VR — best short first-VR campaign
Access: Native Quest title; confirm current availability. Comfort: Low to moderate. Best for: Beginners and short, replayable sessions.

You dodge, reach, aim and plan your next action in a way that is unusually easy to understand for a first-time VR player.
The campaign is relatively short. Buy it for its elegant premise and replayability, not for dozens of hours of content.
Moss and Moss: Book II — best comfortable adventure
Access: Native Quest recommendations; check current listings. Comfort: Low to moderate. Best for: Seated play, third-person adventure and players cautious about motion.
The Moss games place you alongside a small protagonist in diorama-like environments. You control the character while also reaching into the world to solve puzzles and help manipulate objects. That combination makes the games feel designed for VR rather than simply converted to it.

Third-person perspective can be easier to tolerate than continuous first-person movement, but it does not eliminate discomfort. You still turn, look around and interact in VR.
Walkabout Mini Golf — best multiplayer game
Access: Native Quest title; verify current player count and cross-play details. Comfort: Low to moderate. Best for: Friends, families with suitable age ratings and non-gamers.
Walkabout Mini Golf is simple to explain, rewarding to replay and naturally social. Its gentle movement makes it a safer group recommendation than a fast action game, and the courses give players a reason to return even after completing a round.

- NEARLY 30% LEAP IN RESOLUTION — Experience every thrill in breathtaking detail with sharp graphics and stunning 4K Infinite Display.
- NO WIRES, MORE FUN — Break free from cords. Play, explore and exercise in immersive worlds — untethered and without limits.

- 2+ HOURS OF BATTERY LIFE — Charge less, play longer and stay in the action with an improved battery that keeps up.
Check whether the base purchase includes the courses your group wants and whether additional course packs are sold separately. The value is highest when the people you want to play with are using a compatible platform and are regularly online.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →I Expect You to Die — best seated puzzle series
Access: Native Quest series; verify current editions. Comfort: Low. Best for: Seated play, escape-room puzzles and small group demonstrations.
These spy-themed puzzle games let you manipulate objects, inspect clues and solve lethal traps from a seated position. They are particularly useful for households where one person enjoys VR but does not want continuous movement.
The games are puzzle-focused rather than action-heavy, and age-rating restrictions still apply. “Seated” describes movement, not suitability for every child.
PowerWash Simulator VR — best relaxed game
Access: Native Quest version; check the current content and headset support. Comfort: Low to moderate. Best for: Low-pressure play and satisfying task completion.
PowerWash Simulator VR turns cleaning into a tactile activity: aim the washer, adjust your position and reveal the difference between dirty and clean surfaces. It is a good alternative when you want interaction without combat, horror or demanding reflexes.
It is not a conventional adventure, and the standalone version may not contain every piece of content available elsewhere. Confirm the current edition before comparing platforms.
Best Quest 3 and Quest 3S games
Quest 3 and Quest 3S belong to the newer Quest hardware generation, but they are not identical products. Quest 3 has different optical and display hardware from Quest 3S; Quest 3S is the lower-cost route to the newer generation’s software compatibility. Neither should be treated as simply a faster Quest 2.
Batman: Arkham Shadow — best Quest 3-generation showcase
Access: Quest 3/3S-generation recommendation; do not assume Quest 2 support. Comfort: Moderate to intense. Best for: A premium superhero adventure built around current standalone hardware.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Batman: Arkham Shadow is the clearest reason for a Quest 3 or Quest 3S owner to look beyond the Quest 2 catalogue. It is designed as a full-scale action experience rather than a brief technology demo, with combat, traversal and investigation that benefit from modern standalone hardware.
It contains physical combat and movement that may be difficult for new VR users. Check the official listing for the exact supported headset models, age rating and current price before purchase.

Red Matter 2 — best visual and atmospheric showcase
Access: Check the current listing for Quest 2 support and any Quest 3 enhancement. Comfort: Moderate. Best for: Sci-fi atmosphere, puzzles and visual fidelity.
Red Matter 2 is a strong choice when you want a slower-paced game that emphasizes environments, object interaction and puzzle solving. Quest 3 hardware can provide sharper visuals or greater rendering headroom where a specific version supports those upgrades, but do not assume every Quest 2 game receives a meaningful enhancement.

The 7th Guest VR — best atmospheric puzzle horror
Access: Verify current Quest 3/3S and Quest 2 compatibility. Comfort: Moderate. Best for: Environmental puzzles and horror atmosphere.
This is a good fit for players who prefer investigating a haunted setting to fighting through one. Its appeal depends on atmosphere, spatial presentation and puzzle solving, so it makes a more interesting Quest 3 showcase than a game that merely runs at a higher resolution.
Best games by genre
- Action RPG: Asgard’s Wrath 2.
- Rhythm and movement: Beat Saber.
- Horror: Resident Evil 4 for a campaign, or The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners for survival systems.
- Stealth and adventure: Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR.
- Co-op action: Dungeons of Eternity, subject to current player-count and platform details.
- Social multiplayer: Walkabout Mini Golf.
- Puzzles: I Expect You to Die for seated play or The 7th Guest VR for environmental horror.
- Relaxed play: PowerWash Simulator VR.
- Comfortable adventure: Moss.
- Fitness: Beat Saber for game-like movement; consider FitXR only after checking its subscription and DLC structure.
Free and social Quest games
Gorilla Tag and Rec Room
Access: Free or free-to-start social experiences; verify current account, platform and purchase requirements. Comfort: Variable. Best for: Online social play and user-created activities.
Gorilla Tag and Rec Room are useful recommendations when “free” matters more than premium presentation. They can provide a large amount of social content without an upfront game purchase, but they should not be treated as equivalent to a curated single-player game.
Online interaction introduces voice chat, user-generated content, moderation and age-rating concerns. Free-to-start games may also include paid cosmetics, in-app purchases or other optional spending. Parents should review account controls and play alongside younger users rather than assuming that a free game is automatically family-friendly.

Half-Life: Alyx — best PC VR recommendation
Access: PC VR only. Comfort: Moderate to intense. Best for: Quest owners with a capable gaming PC who want a benchmark single-player VR game.
Half-Life: Alyx is not a native Quest Store game. It requires a gaming PC, SteamVR and a wired or wireless connection through a compatible setup. You can use Quest Link, Air Link or Steam Link where supported, but the experience depends on the computer, network and configuration.
That extra requirement is worthwhile for the right owner: the game offers detailed environments, physical object handling, exploration and combat at a scale that standalone hardware may not match. It is the wrong recommendation if you want portable, plug-and-play gaming or do not already own a suitable PC.
Standalone versus PC VR
| Access type | Needs a gaming PC? | Typical advantage |
|---|---|---|
| Native Quest | No | Portable, simple and playable anywhere with enough space |
| Quest Link or Air Link | Yes | Access to higher-end PC VR graphics and a wider library |
| Steam Link | Yes | Wireless access to compatible SteamVR games |
| Cloud streaming | Depends on service and region | May reduce the need for a local gaming PC, but relies heavily on network quality |
Do not buy a PC-only game expecting it to install and run directly on the headset. Check the Steam listing and developer documentation for current requirements.

How much does Quest 3 improve older games?
Quest 3 can make supported games look clearer and run with more rendering headroom, and some developers add higher-resolution textures, improved shadows, better lighting or denser environments. Mixed-reality games also benefit from the newer headset’s capabilities.
There is no universal upgrade. A Quest 2 game does not automatically receive a Quest 3 patch, and a sharper headset cannot replace a developer’s work. Look for a named Quest 3 enhancement on the game’s current store or developer page rather than assuming that every older purchase has been upgraded.
Comfort: what to look for
Motion tolerance varies widely. As a starting point:
- Lower movement: Moss, I Expect You to Die and PowerWash Simulator VR.
- Moderate movement: Beat Saber, Walkabout Mini Golf and Resident Evil 4.
- More demanding: fast locomotion, smooth turning, climbing, flying, artificial jumping and horror combat.
Use teleport movement, snap turning, seated modes and vignette settings when available. Begin with short sessions, keep the play area clear, and stop immediately if you feel nausea, headache, eye strain or dizziness. Comfort labels are guidance—not a guarantee.
Replay value, multiplayer and buying traps
- Short campaign: SUPERHOT VR delivers a memorable idea but limited campaign length.
- Score-chasing replayability: Beat Saber remains strong, although music packs add cost.
- Social replayability: Walkabout Mini Golf is most valuable if friends play regularly.
- Repeatable co-op: Dungeons of Eternity is built around replayable dungeon runs; verify current multiplayer details.
- Subscription value: FitXR and Meta Quest+ may suit frequent users, but catalogues, plans and included titles change.
- Free does not mean cost-free: Social games can include cosmetics, in-app purchases, voice chat and user-generated content.
Choose your first three games
For a new Quest owner
Beat Saber, Moss and Walkabout Mini Golf cover rhythm, comfortable adventure and social play.
For an action-focused player
Asgard’s Wrath 2, Resident Evil 4 and Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR provide a more traditional campaign-oriented starting point.
For a Quest 3 or Quest 3S showcase
Start with Batman: Arkham Shadow, add Red Matter 2 if its current compatibility suits your headset, and choose a current mixed-reality title from the live Quest Store.

How these recommendations were selected
The list weighs VR-native interaction, standalone usefulness, headset fit, content quality, replay value, comfort, value, audience fit and distinctiveness. It does not treat store popularity or franchise recognition as proof that a game is best. A game can be excellent overall and still be a poor choice for a Quest 2 owner, a child, someone without a gaming PC or a player prone to motion sickness.
For broader comparative context, current recommendation coverage from PCGamesN, Tom’s Guide, TechRadar, Road to VR and UploadVR is useful, but the official store remains the authority for live compatibility, pricing, editions, DLC and ratings.
