For dramatic Overworld landscapes, start with Terralith; for structures, consider Explorations or Explorify; for Nether travel, look at Incendium. Check each project’s current Minecraft version, loader, and dependencies before installing, and make a new world for major world-generation changes.
Choose a mod by the kind of exploration you want
The options below serve different play styles rather than forming a tested ranking. Their feature counts are project or guide descriptions, not independent measurements of quality. The March 2026 CurseForge Blog guide frames the appeal as seeing something on the horizon and dropping what you are doing to explore; choose the mod that creates that kind of discovery for you.
| What you want to find | Mod to consider | Why it may fit |
|---|---|---|
| Dramatic Overworld terrain and varied biomes | Terralith | Its project description says it adds more than 95 biomes and refreshes vanilla ones, with features such as canyons, floating islands, and deep ocean trenches. |
| Biomes across multiple dimensions | Biomes O’ Plenty | The project describes biome additions in the Overworld, Nether, and End, along with plants, flowers, trees, and building blocks. |
| More structures to stumble across | Explorations | Its project page lists destinations such as a forgotten well, shrine, underground temple, floating island, desert ruin, and slime cave. |
| More varied villages and outposts | ChoiceTheorem’s Overhauled Village | The CurseForge Blog guide describes village and outpost variants that reflect their terrain and biome. |
| Small, vanilla-friendly structures and dungeons | Explorify – Dungeons & Structures | The guide describes finds across different biomes and dimensions, with a lineup that may change in updates. |
| A different kind of Nether journey | Incendium | The guide describes a vanilla-block Nether overhaul with eight new biomes and nine new structures. |
| A large collection of new Overworld landscapes | Oh The Biomes We’ve Gone | The guide describes more than 50 biomes combining realistic and magical regions. |
Which exploration mod suits your play style?
For terrain that makes the journey the destination: Terralith
Terralith is aimed at players who want each trip through the Overworld to reveal more varied landscapes, rather than simply placing extra destinations into familiar terrain. The project describes more than 95 new biomes alongside changes to vanilla biomes. Its Modrinth page advises starting a new world and warns against adding it to an existing world or removing it afterward. It also distinguishes its mod and datapack versions; use the one intended for your setup rather than swapping between them casually.
For biome variety across dimensions: Biomes O’ Plenty
Biomes O’ Plenty expands beyond the Overworld: its project describes new biomes in the Nether and End as well, plus vegetation and blocks useful for building. Dependencies differ by game version and loader. The project page lists GlitchCore for Minecraft 1.20.4 and above, TerraBlender for 1.18 and above, and additional Fabric API requirements when using Fabric. Check the instructions for the exact file you plan to install.

For structures, ruins, and points of interest: Explorations
Explorations adds destinations rather than focusing only on biome variety. Its CurseForge page lists structures including a forgotten well, jungle temple, shrine, underground temple, floating island, desert ruin, and slime cave. The page lists Forge, Fabric, and NeoForge releases for Minecraft 26.2 and 26.1.2 dated September 3, 2026; its Fabric version requires Fabric API. Match the release to your exact game version and loader.
For more settlement discoveries: ChoiceTheorem’s Overhauled Village
If villages and outposts are the landmarks you want to encounter more often, the CurseForge Blog guide recommends this project for variants that fit surrounding terrain and biomes. The guide lists Lithostitched as a dependency; confirm the current project requirements for your chosen version before installing.

For understated finds: Explorify – Dungeons & Structures

For Nether-focused exploration: Incendium
Incendium overhauls the Nether using vanilla blocks, with eight new biomes and nine new structures according to the CurseForge Blog guide. The guide notes a conflict with Amplified Nether, so do not plan to use those two together.
Rank #3

For a broader range of Overworld environments: Oh The Biomes We’ve Gone
The guide describes more than 50 new biomes, mixing realistic and magical settings. It may suit players who want many new Overworld environments; check the project’s current files and dependencies for your Minecraft version and loader.
Check compatibility and protect your world before installing
- Match the game version and loader. Select a project file for your exact Minecraft version and mod loader. Forge files do not run on Fabric; use the project’s file list rather than relying on an older roundup. CurseForge’s catalog provides loader and version filters.
- Install the listed dependencies. Add required libraries, such as the version- and loader-specific dependencies named on a project’s page. A missing dependency can prevent a mod from loading.
- Decide on world-generation changes before creating a world. The CurseForge Blog guide says new biomes and structures generally appear in newly generated chunks. For Terralith, follow its specific new-world warning; do not assume adding it later or removing it is safe.
- Back up before updating structure mods. Keep a copy of an important world before updating mods that add structures, since updates may change what generates. Avoid known incompatibilities, including Incendium with Amplified Nether.
- Check multiplayer requirements for the specific project. Some options require every player to install the mod, while some datapack-based options may be usable server-side only. Do not assume that a single-player setup tells you what a server requires.
What to verify on the project page
- Feature: Does it add terrain, biomes, structures, caves, or content in a particular dimension?
- Style: Are you after a vanilla-like change or a more dramatic overhaul?
- Compatibility: Is there a current file for your exact Minecraft version and loader, and are there dependencies or known conflicts?
- World and multiplayer impact: Should you begin a new world, and must the mod be installed by each player?
Mod and datapack availability changes, so confirm the current files and setup notes before committing to a world. Modrinth describes itself as a content discovery and sharing platform, not an official Minecraft service or an entity associated with Mojang or Microsoft.
