There is no single best Minecraft Java server host for every world. Gravel Host and PebbleHost have the lowest quoted cost per gigabyte, BisectHosting is the clearest modpack-focused choice, Apex Hosting emphasizes guided setup, ScalaCube is aimed at running several small servers, and DatHost stands out for a flat-rate 16GB plan with unlimited player slots. The right choice depends on your RAM requirement, modpack or plugin workload, tolerance for technical setup, and the price after any introductory term.

The prices in this guide are figures reported by comparison pages or provider-authored material, not verified checkout quotes. Use them to build a shortlist, then confirm the current plan, renewal price, billing term, player-slot policy and refund rules on the provider’s own site before paying.

Best Minecraft Java hosting options at a glance

The table uses the most specific figures available for Java Edition hosting. A quoted price is not necessarily a recurring price, and “from” pricing can apply only to a particular billing term or configuration.

Provider Best fit Reported starting figure RAM or slot detail Important qualification
Gravel Host Lowest quoted cost per GB $1.80/month for 2GB Budget plans reported at $0.90/GB; Ultimate plans at $3.00/GB Figure is from provider-authored material; verify plan and renewal price
PebbleHost Simple low-cost RAM pricing $1.00/GB Exact bundled configuration not stated Listicle quote; confirm what CPU, storage and support are included
BisectHosting Modpacks $5.99/month for 2GB on a budget tier Premium plans reported around $7.99/month for 2GB; 2,300+ modpacks cited Shared-CPU and premium tiers may differ in performance and features
Apex Hosting Beginners who want setup help About $3.75/GB Total entry configuration not stated Reported as more expensive than comparable plans
ScalaCube Several small servers From $2/month Options reported from 768MB to 32GB RAM “From” price and a reportedly absent refund window require confirmation
DatHost Large RAM at a flat rate About $8.11/month Base plan reported with 16GB RAM and unlimited player slots Check whether the quoted price is recurring and which resources are dedicated
Nodecraft Transparent first-month versus renewal comparison $4.17 first month Renewal reported at $5.96/month Those figures come from one comparison source
Shockbyte Low advertised entry price Conflicting quotes: $2.50/month for 1GB, $3.99/month with a $2.79 first month, or from $2.99/month with unlimited slots Configuration and slot policy differ by quote Do not rely on a single figure without a live checkout check
ServerPrism A small 2GB server $4.74/month reported by one forum user 2GB in that user’s report Anecdotal figure; treat it as a lead, not a current rate

Which host fits your use case?

Choose Gravel Host or PebbleHost for a low RAM bill

Gravel Host has the lowest specific entry quote in the available comparisons: $1.80 per month for 2GB. The same provider-authored material separates plans by effective RAM price, listing $0.90 per GB on Budget plans and $3.00 per GB on Ultimate plans. That spread matters more than the headline entry number: an inexpensive Budget allocation may not include the same CPU priority, storage, backups or support as an Ultimate allocation.

  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

PebbleHost is quoted at $1.00 per GB, making it another candidate when your main filter is monthly RAM cost. The available listing does not establish a complete starter bundle, processor allocation, storage limit or renewal rate. Ask for those details before comparing it directly with Gravel Host, because equal RAM does not guarantee equal performance.

  • Use the lowest tier when your world is lightly modded and you are comfortable handling configuration yourself.
  • Move up a tier when a modpack, large view distance or frequent automation causes lag, memory pressure or long startup times.
  • Compare CPU policy, backups and support alongside the per-GB figure; RAM alone is not a complete specification.

Choose BisectHosting for modpacks

BisectHosting is the most consistently modpack-oriented option in the available comparisons. One source cites more than 2,300 modpacks, a budget tier at $5.99 per month for 2GB on shared CPU nodes, and premium plans around $7.99 per month for 2GB. The distinction between shared and premium nodes is important: the same memory allocation can behave differently when processor resources and neighboring workloads differ.

Before ordering a modpack server, search the provider’s current catalog for the exact pack name and Minecraft version. Confirm whether the pack can be installed from a one-click selector, whether you can upload a custom pack, and how the control panel handles server-side and client-side files. A large catalog reduces manual work, but it does not guarantee that every pack version is available forever.

Choose Apex Hosting when setup assistance matters more than the lowest price

Apex Hosting is positioned for beginners who want help getting a server online. Its reported price is roughly $3.75 per GB, higher than the low-cost per-GB quotes above. That premium can make sense if you value guided installation, panel documentation and support responses more than minimizing the monthly bill.

Ask support what “setup help” includes before purchase. Useful questions are whether staff will install a specific modpack, migrate an existing world, diagnose a failed startup and explain permission settings. Also request the exact RAM amount behind the advertised entry plan, because a per-GB rate does not reveal the total allocation.

Choose ScalaCube for multiple small instances

ScalaCube is listed from $2 per month with configurations ranging from 768MB to 32GB of RAM. That broad range makes it suitable for someone who wants several modest servers rather than one large instance. You can assign a small allocation to a private test world, then reserve more memory for a primary survival or modded server.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The “from” price does not identify the included storage, CPU share, backups or number of simultaneously deployable instances. Plan each server separately and check whether the control panel lets you stop, start and reinstall them without affecting the others. One comparison also reports no refund window for ScalaCube; confirm the current policy in writing before choosing an annual or long-term term.

Choose DatHost for a large flat-rate allocation

DatHost is reported at about $8.11 per month for a base plan with 16GB of RAM and unlimited player slots. If that configuration is still offered at checkout, its value proposition is straightforward: you pay a flat monthly amount instead of adding RAM as your community grows.

“Unlimited player slots” removes an advertised slot cap, but it does not make hardware infinite. Actual capacity still depends on world complexity, simulation distance, entities, plugins, modpacks and CPU resources. Ask whether the 16GB plan has dedicated or shared processing, what storage and backup limits apply, and whether the price changes at renewal.

Consider Nodecraft or ServerPrism for smaller conventional servers

Nodecraft is reported at $4.17 for the first month and $5.96 per month on renewal. That explicit two-price example illustrates why the recurring rate deserves as much attention as the sign-up offer. Calculate the cost over the period you actually expect to host, not just the first billing cycle.

ServerPrism appears in one forum report at $4.74 per month for 2GB. Because that figure comes from a single user rather than a current published plan comparison, treat it as a prompt to check availability, not as a dependable quotation.

Treat Shockbyte’s entry price as unresolved

Three published comparisons give materially different Shockbyte entry figures: $2.50 per month for 1GB, $3.99 per month with a $2.79 first-month price, and from $2.99 per month with unlimited player slots. The differences could reflect different dates, billing terms, regions or configurations. They cannot be reconciled into one reliable number without a live check.

If you are considering this provider, record the exact plan name, RAM, player-slot setting, billing interval and renewal total shown in checkout. Save a screenshot or receipt so you can compare the promised configuration with the activated server.

How to compare the real monthly cost

Headline prices are often the least durable part of a hosting offer. Use a simple cost worksheet with four lines:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Recurring monthly rate: record the price after any first-month or promotional period.
  2. Billing term: note whether the quote assumes monthly billing, a multi-month commitment or a 24-month term.
  3. Required extras: include additional backups, dedicated addresses, higher CPU tiers, storage upgrades and migration fees if they are optional.
  4. Exit cost: check the refund window and whether unused prepaid time is refundable.

For example, a $4.17 first month followed by $5.96 renewals should be evaluated using the $5.96 recurring amount when comparing long-term budgets. Likewise, a $6.99 monthly figure tied to a long commitment should not be compared as if it were a freely cancellable month-to-month price.

RAM, CPU and player-slot decisions

RAM is the easiest specification to compare, but it is only one part of Java server performance. A lightly used vanilla world, a heavily automated technical world and a large modpack can place very different demands on the same memory allocation. Treat the listed RAM as capacity for the server process, not as a guaranteed player count.

Start with the workload, not a provider badge

  • Vanilla or lightly modded: prioritize a reliable low-cost plan and the ability to increase RAM later.
  • Large modpacks: confirm pack availability, startup behavior and CPU policy; the modpack catalog is as important as the memory number.
  • Several independent worlds: compare whether the panel supports multiple instances and how resources are divided among them.
  • Large communities: look for clear slot policies, upgrade paths, backups and support coverage rather than choosing solely on an unlimited-slot label.

Check what the RAM number excludes

Ask whether advertised RAM is guaranteed, burstable or shared across services. Confirm storage type and capacity, backup frequency, network location, CPU allocation and any limits on plugins, mod loaders or custom Java versions. A provider that publishes only a RAM figure is leaving out information you need for a fair comparison.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Modpacks, plugins and migration questions

Modded Java servers are more sensitive to version mismatches than ordinary worlds. Before ordering, verify the exact Minecraft release, mod-loader type and modpack build. Confirm that the host supports manual file uploads if your pack is not in its catalog.

If you are moving an existing server, ask for a migration procedure that preserves the world folder, player data, server properties, whitelist and operator permissions. Keep an offline copy before changing DNS or deleting the old instance. A provider’s setup service is useful only if it covers the files you actually need moved.

Refunds, renewals and cancellation checks

Refund terms vary sharply. One comparison reports no refund window for ScalaCube, while another lists a 30-day window for a different provider. Do not assume that a general “money-back guarantee” covers setup fees, prepaid renewals, add-ons or suspended accounts. Read the current policy for the exact product and billing term.

Before paying, verify:

  • When the introductory price ends and the renewal amount begins.
  • Whether renewal is automatic and how to disable it.
  • How many days you have to request a refund.
  • Whether refunds are prorated after server use.
  • What happens to your world files when you cancel.

A practical buying process

  1. Define the server: write down Java version, vanilla or modded status, modpack name, approximate community size and whether you need more than one instance.
  2. Set a recurring budget: use the post-promotion price, not the first invoice.
  3. Select two or three candidates: choose from the use-case sections above rather than comparing every provider on a generic ranking.
  4. Verify the live configuration: record RAM, CPU policy, storage, backups, player-slot rules, data-center region and support channel.
  5. Test the control panel during the refund period: install the intended server version, upload a small test world and confirm that you can stop, restart and restore it.
  6. Document billing: save the checkout page, renewal amount, refund deadline and cancellation instructions.
  7. Scale only after observing usage: monitor startup failures, memory usage and tick performance before buying a larger tier.

Decision guide

Your priority First provider to investigate Why What to verify
Lowest quoted RAM cost Gravel Host $1.80/month for 2GB and a reported $0.90/GB Budget rate CPU tier, renewal price, backups and whether the quote is recurring
Another low-cost per-GB option PebbleHost $1.00/GB reported Complete bundle, storage, support and renewal terms
Large modpack catalog BisectHosting More than 2,300 modpacks cited Exact pack version, shared versus premium node and upload support
Guided setup Apex Hosting Positioned for beginners needing assistance What migration and troubleshooting support actually includes
Several small servers ScalaCube Reported 768MB-to-32GB range and a $2 starting price Instance limits, refund policy and resource isolation
Flat-rate high memory DatHost About $8.11/month for reported 16GB and unlimited slots CPU allocation, storage, backups and renewal price
Unclear low entry quote Shockbyte Multiple conflicting published prices Live checkout total, billing term and exact slot configuration

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Choosing by first-month price: an introductory invoice can hide a higher recurring rate.
  • Comparing RAM without CPU: equal memory allocations can perform differently on shared hardware.
  • Assuming a modpack catalog is universal: verify the exact version and loader before purchase.
  • Ignoring the refund deadline: test installation and backups while a refund is still possible.
  • Reading “unlimited slots” as unlimited performance: slot caps and hardware capacity are separate constraints.
  • Deleting the old server too soon: retain an offline world backup until the migration is proven.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a 768MB plan run a Minecraft Java server?

A 768MB allocation is listed among ScalaCube’s available sizes, but the figure alone does not establish a safe player count or modpack compatibility. Treat it as a small-instance option and verify the workload with the provider before committing.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What should I ask about an unlimited-player-slots plan?

Ask how CPU, RAM, storage, backups and fair-use limits are defined. Unlimited slots remove a configured slot ceiling; they do not guarantee that any number of players can run smoothly on the available hardware.

How should I handle conflicting prices for the same host?

Use the live checkout as the deciding record. Match the plan name, RAM, billing interval, introductory period and renewal total, then keep the receipt or confirmation email for reference.

The Bottom Line

For 2026, start with Gravel Host or PebbleHost if recurring RAM cost is your priority, BisectHosting for a modpack-heavy server, Apex Hosting for hands-on setup help, ScalaCube for multiple small instances, and DatHost for a reported flat-rate 16GB configuration. Confirm every price, renewal term, slot policy and refund rule at checkout before you deploy a world.
