There is no reliable single number for how long it takes to beat an SNES game. Completion time depends on the specific game and what you mean by “beat”: reaching the ending, doing optional content, or completing everything. For a useful estimate, look up the particular title and compare times for the same kind of play.
Why there is no SNES-wide completion time
The available time estimates are organized by individual games, not as a validated average for the SNES library. A platform-wide number would imply a level of consistency the evidence does not establish. Without a game title, there is no defensible number of hours—or typical range—to give.
What “beat” means in playtime estimates
Time databases separate different goals, so estimates are only comparable when their scopes match.
- Main story or credits: Finish the central game, usually by reaching its ending or credits.
- Story plus extras: Finish the main path and do some optional content.
- Completionist or 100%: Pursue a game’s optional content and completion goals more thoroughly.
HowLongToBeat describes categories for main story, main story plus extras, completionist, and all styles in its project profile. IGDB documents separate estimates for reaching credits, completing with some extras, and reaching 100%, as well as the number of time-to-beat submissions, in its API documentation.

How much confidence to place in an estimate
These figures come from player reports, so treat them as community estimates rather than promised times for your own run. When a database shows a submission count or poll count, check it alongside the estimate: the number of reports gives useful context for how much evidence sits behind the figure. Also note whether the database reports an average or a median; they are different summaries of a group of reports.
The CORGIS playtime dataset documents average main-story and completionist times along with poll counts, and says its information was collected from crowd-sourced HowLongToBeat data. That documentation describes the dataset, not a current, validated measurement of every SNES game; it should not be treated as a live platform-wide total. See the dataset documentation.

How to find a useful estimate for a specific SNES game
- Search for the exact game title in a time database.
- Choose the category that matches your goal: credits, story plus extras, or completionist/100%.
- Check the number of player submissions or polls, if shown, and whether the displayed figure is an average or median.
- Record the database and the date you checked it, since community estimates may change as reports are added.
Do not compare a main-story time for one game with a completionist time for another as though they measure the same kind of run.

A database average summarizes the reports it has collected; it does not predict an individual player’s time. Familiarity, skill, difficulty, retries, and emulator features could affect a particular run, but the sources do not establish a standard adjustment for any of them. Treat them as possible reasons for variation, not as measured corrections to add to an estimate.
