If you want another motion-controlled sports game, the best fit depends on what you want to keep: a Switch game with camera-based movement, tennis with optional motion controls, an exercise-focused adventure, or a separate camera-controlled system. For a close Switch match, look at MotionPlay Sports; for tennis, consider Mario Tennis Aces. Ring Fit Adventure is a workout RPG, while Nex Playground requires separate hardware. Nintendo Switch Sports Resort is not out yet as of October 7, 2026.
What makes a game similar to Nintendo Switch Sports?
Nintendo Switch Sports is the baseline: Nintendo describes it as a continuation of Wii Sports, with six sports—soccer, volleyball, bowling, tennis, badminton and Chambara. It was released on April 29, 2022. Nintendo’s product page lists the sports and release date.

“Motion control” can mean different things. Some games read Joy-Con movement; others use a phone or console camera to track your body. And a movement-based workout is not necessarily a sports game. Compare the control method and the activity you want before choosing.
| Option | Platform and motion method | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| MotionPlay Sports | Switch; compatible smartphone camera | Bowling or table tennis with camera-tracked movement |
| Mario Tennis Aces | Switch; motion controls optional alongside traditional controls | Arcade tennis |
| Ring Fit Adventure | Switch; Ring-Con accessory | Exercise and movement-based play |
| Nex Playground | Separate system; camera-controlled play | Families open to buying a different platform |
| Nintendo Switch Sports Resort | Switch 2; motion-control sports | A forthcoming multi-sport option |
Best Switch alternative for camera-based sports: MotionPlay Sports
MotionPlay Sports offers bowling and table tennis on Switch. Nintendo says its free companion app uses a compatible smartphone camera to track movement and turn it into game controls. Nintendo’s tagline is “YOU ARE THE CONTROLLER. JUST MOVE.” The game does not require wearable controllers or additional accessories, but you do need a compatible smartphone and the app. See Nintendo’s MotionPlay Sports page.

What you can play
- Bowling: Play solo against AI or locally with two players.
- Table tennis: Play against AI with difficulty settings.
Choose this if camera-tracked body movement matters more to you than having a large selection of sports. Its two-sport lineup is narrower than Switch Sports, and its control setup depends on a phone rather than just Joy-Con movement.
Best for tennis: Mario Tennis Aces
Mario Tennis Aces is a tennis-focused arcade game, not a multi-sport collection. It supports traditional controls as well as an optional motion-control mode, so it suits players who want tennis-specific play without making motion controls mandatory. Metacritic’s guide to games like Wii Sports describes its arcade approach and control options.
Rank #2
- Swing, kick, spike, and bowl your way to victory in 7 sports
- Play Golf, Soccer, Volleyball, Bowling, Tennis, Badminton and Chambara (swordplay)
- Motion controls will get you moving and help turn your real-world actions into in-game movements
- Use the Leg Strap accessory to kick the ball in Soccer
- Play with friends and family locally or online—in some sports, you and a friend can even team up on the same system to take on other teams online
Choose it when tennis is the sport you want to play. If your priority is switching between several sports in one package, its narrower focus is a meaningful difference.
Exercise-adjacent option: Ring Fit Adventure
Ring Fit Adventure is a Switch RPG workout built around the Ring-Con, not a direct sports-game substitute. It is a better match if you want movement and exercise to be the point of play; Switch Sports is oriented toward party-game sports. Metacritic’s guide to games like Wii Sports makes that distinction.
Rank #3
- The ultimate game that brings together 30 different sports
- Challenge your family or friends and may the best player win
- Multiple game modes available: Quick match or Tournament / Team mode or Solo
- Explore a multitude of environments! Volcano / Desert / Snowy countries
- Unlock new costumes and choose to play with motion or buttons on NSW
Camera-controlled alternative on separate hardware: Nex Playground
Nex Playground is not a Switch game. It is a separate camera-controlled system for family games. TechRadar’s review lists Goal Keeper among its starter games and Tennis Smash in its larger catalog; access to expanded games uses a Play Pass subscription. Because subscription terms and availability can change, check TechRadar’s Nex Playground review and the current product listing for the latest details.
Consider it only if you are open to another system rather than looking for a title to play on your existing Switch.
Rank #4
- 6 sports: Baseball, run's jump, goalkeeper, tennis, bowling & rafting.
- 20 characters to customize (change your name, outfit, accessories & hair)
- Varied game modes - Solo or multiplayer for up to 8 players.
- More than 15 environments and tons of unlockable items.
Forthcoming Switch 2 option: Nintendo Switch Sports Resort
Nintendo lists Nintendo Switch Sports Resort as a Switch 2 game with 12 motion-control sports, including bowling, basketball, boxing, table tennis and golf. Its official release date is October 22, 2026, so it is upcoming as of October 7, 2026—not currently playable on that date. Online play requires a Nintendo Switch Online membership and an internet connection. Check Nintendo’s product page for release and availability updates.
Which one should you choose?
- Want camera-tracked sports on Switch? Start with MotionPlay Sports for bowling and table tennis.
- Want tennis with motion controls available? Choose Mario Tennis Aces.
- Want an exercise-focused game? Choose Ring Fit Adventure, understanding that it is an RPG workout rather than a sports collection.
- Open to a separate camera-controlled system? Consider Nex Playground and check its current Play Pass terms.
- Want a broader motion-sports collection on Switch 2? Watch for Nintendo Switch Sports Resort after its listed October 22, 2026 release.
