There is no evidence-based single “best” new weapon in Fortnite Chapter 6: Epic’s notes describe distinctive mechanics, but do not provide comparable damage figures, live loot-pool confirmation, or performance testing. In the Fortnite Override Battle Royale notes for v42.00 and v42.20, the most useful picks depend on whether you want a charged explosive shot, close-range pressure, a high-risk pistol, flexible fire, or melee utility. Check your mode and patch before relying on any of them to appear in a match.
How to choose among the new weapons
Use the documented mechanics to match a weapon to your preferred role, not as proof that it has the highest damage or win rate. Epic’s v42.00 and v42.20 notes identify the items below, but they do not publish a complete weapon-stat comparison.
- For flexible engagements: consider the Mega Buster or Rebecca’s Guns, depending on whether you prefer charged shots or a rifle-and-SMG combination.
- For close-range pressure: the automatic 8-Bit Shotgun is the clearest new firearm fit.
- For a precision, high-stakes shot: Midas’ Masterpiece is a single-fire pistol with limited ammo.
- For melee: Kingdom Key offers combos and a shocking bolt.
- For movement rather than gunfights: Sonic Power Sneakers add a Spin Dash and Spin Attack; they are not a conventional firearm.
New weapons and items in Fortnite Override v42.00
Epic’s v42.00 Fortnite Override Battle Royale notes describe a refreshed loot pool and introduce the following weapons and item. The mechanics below are official descriptions, not a comparative ranking. Read Epic’s v42.00 notes.
Mega Buster: charged shots and explosive range
The Mega Buster is an energy arm cannon that fires single pellets, quick-charged shots, and long-charged explosive projectiles. Epic says it can be used while sprinting or slide-boosting. Its mix of firing options makes it a flexible choice for players comfortable managing charge timing, but the notes do not state damage, range, or reload figures.

8-Bit Shotgun: automatic close-range fire
The 8-Bit Shotgun is an automatic shotgun with cartridge reloads and a combo multiplier scoreboard. That makes it the most straightforward documented new pick for players who want a close-range firearm and a combo-based mechanic. Epic does not give its damage, magazine size, or reload speed in the cited notes.
Midas’ Masterpiece: limited-ammo pistol
Midas’ Masterpiece is a single-fire golden pistol described by Epic as high damage and capable of a one-headshot elimination. Its ammo is limited, and the notes provide no exact damage value. Treat it as a precision opportunity rather than a weapon whose performance can be quantified from the published description.

Sonic Power Sneakers: mobility, not a firearm
Sonic Power Sneakers enable a grounded Spin Dash or an airborne Spin Attack. They belong in a mobility discussion, not a direct gun-versus-gun comparison; Epic’s description does not establish firearm-style damage or a conventional shooting role.
New additions in Fortnite Override v42.20
Epic’s v42.20 Fortnite Override Battle Royale notes identify Kingdom Key and Rebecca’s Guns, and describe a refreshed Loot Hacks rotation. These categories should not be treated as interchangeable: the hackable lineup is presented as a rotation, not confirmed ordinary floor loot. Read Epic’s v42.20 notes.

Kingdom Key: melee combos and a shocking bolt
Kingdom Key is a melee weapon with combos and a shocking bolt against opponents. It is the clearest fit among these additions for players seeking a melee option. Epic’s notes do not give its damage, reach, or attack timing.
Rebecca’s Guns: dual-wielded rifle and SMG
Rebecca’s Guns combine an Assault Rifle and SMG in a dual-wielded weapon. The Exotic version has ricocheting bullets. The combined weapon suits players looking for a distinctive multi-role firearm, while the ricochet is a specific feature of the Exotic version, not a property to assume for every version.

Loot Hacks: a rotating set, not a guaranteed drop list
The v42.20 notes list the Hyperburst Pistol, Mammoth Pistol, Reaper Sniper Rifle, and Deadeye DMR among hackable weapons, alongside Flowberry Fizz and Rocket Ram. Epic describes a refreshed Loot Hacks rotation. This identifies items in that mechanic, but does not establish that they share the availability of ordinary loot or will be present in every match.

Epic’s v42.00 notes also identify the Pump Shotgun, Assault Rifle, Ranger Assault Rifle, Drum Gun, Minigun, Tactical Pistol, Dual Pistols, and Oni Shotgun as unvaulted. They may be relevant choices when available, but they are returning weapons—not new introductions in that update. The notes do not provide enough comparative statistics to rank them against the new items.

Check whether a weapon is available in your match
The cited updates are specifically Fortnite Override Battle Royale notes. They do not establish that every listed item remains available in the live loot pool or appears in other Fortnite modes. Check the mode and current patch in-game before planning around a weapon.
That distinction matters for creator content, too. Epic’s v42.20 ecosystem notes, dated September 17, 2026, include creator-side weapons such as the Reaper Sniper Rifle and Accelerant Drum Gun; v42.30 notes, dated October 1, 2026, cover creator features and content. Those ecosystem listings are not confirmation of Battle Royale availability. Epic’s v42.20 ecosystem notes and Epic’s v42.30 ecosystem notes are separate from the Override Battle Royale patch notes.
What the available evidence can—and cannot—settle
Epic’s descriptions establish selected mechanics and identify items in particular updates. They do not provide a full current Battle Royale inventory, a damage or DPS table, or controlled comparisons. As a result, “best” is most responsibly read as “best fit for a role”: a shotgun for automatic close-range fire, a pistol for a limited-ammo precision opportunity, or melee and movement options for players who want something other than a conventional firearm.
