Princess Peach is the best all-around Nintendo princess if the deciding factors are playable agency, variety of roles and presence across genres. Princess Zelda is the strongest choice for story importance, while Daisy and Rosalina stand out for their distinctive personalities and worlds. This is a reasoned fan ranking, not an official Nintendo list or a measured popularity poll.
Here, “princess” means a character Nintendo identifies as one or clearly presents in a royal role across Mario and Zelda. The ranking weighs agency and playable roles most heavily, then personality, visual identity, story importance and range across games.
Who are the best Nintendo princesses?
- Princess Peach — the most versatile overall, with a starring adventure and a wide range of playable roles.
- Princess Zelda — the most consequential to her series’ central stories, though her role varies between games.
- Princess Daisy — an energetic, action-ready presence with a strong identity in Mario sports games.
- Rosalina — a memorable cosmic figure whose connection to the Lumas gives her a distinct place in the Mario cast.
The order reflects those criteria, not an official Nintendo judgment. Nintendo’s game listings confirm appearances, but do not establish which character or game is better.
1. Princess Peach: the best all-around pick
Peach has the broadest case when the question is who combines agency with range. Nintendo describes her as the ruler of the Mushroom Kingdom and as kind and supportive, with interests that include sports and baking. She also appears as a playable character across adventure, sports, party, racing and crossover games. Nintendo’s Mario character portal shows that breadth; its listings are examples, not a complete catalog.
#1 Best Overall
- Authentic figure from the Super Mario video games
- Yours Truly, Princess Peach stands approximately 12 inches tall
- 25+ quotes, sounds, and music
- Iconic floaty jump pose
- 6 points of articulation
Her starring role in Princess Peach: Showtime! makes the case for agency especially clear. Peach is the hero, and the game gives her transformations with different abilities. That is a stronger answer to the old rescue-role framing than simply pointing to her appearances in ensemble games. Nintendo’s game listing identifies the title and its platform; it does not prove that Peach is objectively superior to the others.
2. Princess Zelda: the strongest story presence
Zelda is the top choice for readers who put story importance first. Nintendo describes her as Hyrule’s noble princess and the bearer of the Triforce of Wisdom. Her place in the series is not identical from game to game, so it is more accurate to talk about particular versions than to treat every Zelda story as one continuous role. See Nintendo’s Zelda overview for the series framing.

Recent examples broaden that picture beyond a single familiar role. In Echoes of Wisdom, Zelda must save her kingdom. In Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, Nintendo’s March 6, 2026 feature describes her helping King Rauru reclaim Hyrule. These are different games and story contexts, but both give Zelda direct stakes and action rather than reducing her to a title alone. Nintendo’s leading-ladies feature covers the latter example.
3. Princess Daisy: the most energetic personality
Daisy’s appeal is her lively, action-ready characterisation and unmistakable look: Nintendo identifies her as the princess of Sarasaland, with a yellow dress and floral accessories. That gives her a clear visual identity distinct from Peach’s, while her energetic presentation suits her recurring presence in competitive and sports settings.
Rank #3
- Princess Peach Action Figure
- Pink dress is very beautiful, with a pair of white gloves, yellow hair with a golden crown.
- Approximately 6 Inch Tall
Nintendo’s character portal lists Daisy in Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Mario Golf: Super Rush and Mario Tennis Aces. Those appearances support a case for Daisy as a spirited playable pick, particularly for fans who enjoy the sports side of Mario. They do not establish a comparative ranking of her roles or game quality. Nintendo’s Mario character portal provides the listed examples.
4. Rosalina: the most distinctive world and backstory
Rosalina stands apart through her galaxy-spanning setting and bond with the Lumas, whom she adopts. Nintendo’s profile describes her as a mysterious woman who travels the galaxy with them. A March 6, 2026 Nintendo feature calls her “cosmic royalty,” but the character profile does not simply identify her as a princess. She belongs in a broad discussion of Nintendo’s royal heroines, with that distinction made clear.
Rank #4
- BOWSER JR. ACTION FIGURE FROM THE MOVIE: Kids get the Koopa prince exactly as he looks in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, with premium sculpted details from his horns to his shell.
- MARIO TOYS FOR MISCHIEF MAKERS: 17 points of articulation let Bowser Jr. swing, scheme and battle Mario in pretend play. Sturdy plastic and a 5 inch size fit little hands ages 3 to 6.
- SIGNATURE PAINTBRUSH ACCESSORY: Story time gets more creative. Bowser Jr.'s paintbrush lets kids recreate his graffiti tricks and stage villain moments in group play with other Mario figures.
- BOWSER JR. GIFTS FOR KIDS AND COLLECTORS: A standout birthday or Christmas gift for boys and girls 3 and up. The window box doubles as display packaging, and he makes a fun cake topper.
- COLLECT THEM ALL: Bowser Jr. joins Mario, Yoshi and Rosalina in Wave 1, each sold separately, so kids can pit heroes against villains and grow their collection of Super Mario figures.
Her recent playable appearances also show her range. Nintendo’s 2026 feature lists Rosalina in Super Mario Bros. Wonder – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Meetup in Bellabel Park, Mario Kart World and Mario Tennis Fever. Those examples connect her cosmic identity to platforming, racing and sports, without making her royal title more definite than Nintendo’s wording supports. The feature has Nintendo’s current examples; Nintendo’s Mario character portal describes her Luma connection.

Not on the cited official description. Pauline is a strong adjacent character, but Nintendo identifies her as the mayor and leader of New Donk City and as a performer, not as a princess. She fits a broader list of Nintendo women in leadership more naturally than a strictly defined princess ranking. Play Nintendo’s Pauline profile describes her leadership role.

- For the best all-around character: Peach, because her starring adventure and many kinds of playable roles make the broadest case.
- For story stakes: Zelda, whose roles connect directly to Hyrule’s fate across distinct games.
- For an energetic sports-game pick: Daisy, whose personality and listed sports appearances reinforce one another.
- For a cosmic setting and Luma lore: Rosalina, whose identity is most closely tied to travel across the galaxy.
There is no official Nintendo ranking behind these choices, and the cited character pages do not measure popularity. Which one is “best” depends on whether you value agency, story, personality or a particular game genre most.
