Nintendo’s official listings identify useful options for the original Switch family, but they do not establish a comparative “best” ranking. Choose by how you play, which console you own, and whether you need control, protection, or storage.
Which accessories are worth considering?
For longer sessions in TV or tabletop mode, consider the optional Nintendo Switch Pro Controller. For portable play, a carrying case and a screen protector can help protect the console. If you download games on an original Nintendo Switch or Switch Lite, a compatible microSD card adds storage. These accessories address different needs rather than forming a required bundle.
Choose a controller for TV and tabletop play
Nintendo Switch Pro Controller
Nintendo describes the Pro Controller as “a wireless controller with the form factor of a traditional controller, comfortable and great for gaming for long periods of time in TV mode and tabletop mode.” That is Nintendo’s product description, not an independent test result. It is an optional alternative for those play modes, rather than a necessary accessory for using the system. See Nintendo’s Pro Controller listing.
Protect the console you actually own
Carrying case and screen protector
Cases and screen protectors are model-sensitive. Nintendo’s accessory listing says the standard Switch screen protector is not compatible with the Nintendo Switch OLED Model, and lists an OLED-capable bundle. Check the exact console model and the product’s compatibility details before buying; do not assume a protector for one Switch model fits another. Check Nintendo’s accessory listings.

For travel with more gear
The officially licensed PDP Pull N Go 2-In-1 Case is listed as fitting the console, dock, controllers, adapter, cables, game cards, and small accessories. Its broader capacity makes it a travel-storage option when you want to carry more than the console alone. Nintendo’s listing does not establish current price or stock. Add storage for digital games
Original Nintendo Switch and Switch Lite
Nintendo lists compatible microSD cards as a way to add storage for digital games on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch Lite. Nintendo also notes that an internet update is required to use microSDXC cards. Check the card type and console compatibility in Nintendo’s guidance before purchase. Nintendo Switch 2 uses a different card type
Do not buy a standard microSD card for Switch 2 on the assumption that it will work: Nintendo says the console is designed exclusively for microSD Express cards. That distinction is specific to Switch 2 and should not be conflated with the microSD or microSDXC guidance for the original Switch family. Read Nintendo’s microSD Express guidance.
