For farming and relationship progression, try Stardew Valley; for a choice-driven mystery, consider Date Z; and for romance-focused visual novels, Nintendo’s 2026 listings include Can I Not Fall for Idols?, Princess Date Diaries: A Fairy Tale Love, and Because It’s a Dream, It Must Be Romance. These are recommendations by format and tone, not a test-based ranking.
How to choose a Switch dating sim
“Dating sim” can mean a romance-first visual novel, an otome game, or a broader life sim with relationship systems. Before choosing, consider how much time you want to spend on romance versus other activities, whether you prefer branching story choices or ongoing relationship progression, and what tone and content you are comfortable with. Multiplayer and regional availability can matter, too.

- Romance-first story: Pick a visual novel or otome game if you want character routes and story choices at the center.
- Romance alongside other play: Choose a life sim if you want activities such as farming and community-building alongside relationships.
- Check the tone: These games range from comedy to horror, and some Nintendo listings note suggestive or sexual themes and violence.
Best for farming and relationships: Stardew Valley
Stardew Valley is the pick for players who want dating and marriage as part of a much broader life sim. Farming, village life, and other activities give the game substantial non-romance play, so it is not a dedicated dating sim. Siliconera’s guide covers its dating and marriage systems; iMore also describes it as a romance-capable life sim.
Best for a mystery with dating choices: Date Z
Nintendo describes Date Z as a dating visual novel and mystery adventure where choices affect both the story and survival. It suits players who want romance threaded through suspense rather than a purely relationship-focused story. Nintendo Canada’s listing gives the release date as August 30, 2024, rates it Teen, and identifies sexual themes and violence. The same Canadian listing mentions optional character romance packs; store details and add-on availability can differ by region. See the Nintendo Canada listing.

#1 Best Overall
- An original game system which forces players to make difficult choices and live with the consequences. Stunning and unique visuals drawn in two different styles of pixel art.
- Saeko has entrusted you with the role of supervisor. In the day, you distribute items to the little people and interact with them, keeping the group together. However, you are no ordinary supervisor.
- Each little person has two stats: Health and Appeal. These stats determine whether they will live or die. Give items to the little people in the drawer to manage their stats and make a certain...wish...of Saeko's come true.
- A soundtrack heavily influenced by future garage and breakcore, composed by the developer himself.
- Colossal Edition includes physical copy of the game, illustrated inner coversheet, four chipboard standees, soundtrack download card redeemable on computer/smartphone, and holographic sticker.
Romance-forward visual novels listed for 2026
Nintendo’s listings describe three different story-led options. Their listed release dates are not a guarantee of availability in every regional eShop, so check the local store page before buying.

Best for an unconventional or multiplayer date: Kaichu, LongStory, and Monster Prom XXL
Kaichu: The Kaiju Dating Sim
For a deliberately unusual premise, Kaichu centers on dating among six eligible kaiju. It is the clearest fit here if the monster-dating hook is what appeals to you.
LongStory
LongStory is described by iMore as an eight-episode dating game set at middle school. That setting makes its coming-of-age premise distinct from adult romance stories; check the game’s local store listing for current platform and language details.

Important tone warning: Doki Doki Literature Club Plus!
Doki Doki Literature Club Plus! presents itself with the surface of a cute dating game, but it also contains horror and meta elements. Do not choose it expecting a straightforward, light romance.
