The best official Hogwarts Legacy mods depend on what you want to change: Diagon Alley London & Knockturn Alley adds a substantial area to explore, while Ancient DarkRot and Banging Hairstyles for FMC focus on player appearance. These are PC mods available through the game’s official in-game mod experience, not console downloads. The picks below are organized by what they offer—not by an independent quality or performance ranking.
What counts as an official Hogwarts Legacy mod?
Here, “official” means a mod offered through the supported CurseForge and Warner Bros. Games experience. It does not mean Warner Bros. Games made the mod. The game’s official FAQ says PC mods can be discovered directly in-game, and CurseForge describes the mod support as PC-only. Warner Bros. Games’ FAQ and the CurseForge mod hub are the starting points for checking current availability.

Official mod support is for the Steam and Epic Games Store versions on PC; console versions are not supported. The in-game mod menu is the player discovery and installation route. You do not need the Creator Kit just to browse or install mods.
The supported mod experience includes dungeons and quests as well as character enhancements such as cosmetics and skins. Mods must be free and approved before public release under the Hogwarts Legacy moderation guidelines.

Best official Hogwarts Legacy mods by what you want to do
| Mod | Best for | What it offers | Listing details and caveats |
|---|---|---|---|
| Diagon Alley London & Knockturn Alley | Exploring a substantial new area | The project describes an explorable London-themed area with 15 shops, the Daily Prophet lobby, a bank, the Leaky Cauldron, and other locations. | The project page listed an update on September 29, 2026. Its page counter showed 33,385 downloads when checked October 4, 2026; that live count is a discovery signal, not a quality rating. |
| Ancient DarkRot by Ahriadne | Changing your character’s appearance | A Darkrot-themed skin replacement, with support described for male and female player characters. | The project page listed an update on September 8, 2026. It includes compatibility notes and advises backing up your save; check those notes before installing. |
| Banging Hairstyles for FMC | Adding hairstyle options | Adds ten hairstyles available through the Character Editor and Madam Snelling’s. | The latest update shown was July 18, 2025. The project explicitly says the hairstyles are incompatible with hats or hoods. |
For exploration: Diagon Alley London & Knockturn Alley
Choose this if your priority is somewhere new to walk around rather than another outfit or cosmetic. The project description lists 15 shops along with recognizable locations including the Leaky Cauldron and the Daily Prophet lobby. The author’s page is the place to confirm the current feature list and update state: Diagon Alley London & Knockturn Alley on CurseForge.
For a skin change: Ancient DarkRot
Ancient DarkRot suits players looking for a themed player-character appearance change. Its page says the skin replacement supports male and female characters, but also documents compatibility caveats and recommends a save backup. Read the live notes before deciding whether it fits your setup: Ancient DarkRot on CurseForge.

- Video game for Switch from the brand Warner Games
- Color: Multicolor
- Dimensions: 10.5 x 16.8 x 1.2 cm

- If what you want is quality at the best price do not keep looking!
For hairstyles: Banging Hairstyles for FMC
This is a focused choice if ten added hairstyles are more useful to you than a new area or a full skin replacement. The hairstyles are available in the Character Editor and at Madam Snelling’s, but the author says they do not work with hats or hoods. Its listed latest update is July 18, 2025, so check the page for any later changes before installing: Banging Hairstyles for FMC on CurseForge.
Other official mod directions in the catalog
The catalog also showed options for winter clothing for NPCs, an outfit for Poppy, Unique Dark Wizards Redux, and ImmersiveNPCs on October 4, 2026. These point to additional appearance and NPC/world-change choices, but catalog listings change. Browse the live CurseForge catalog and open each project page to confirm its current description and caveats.

How to find and install official mods in-game
- Start the PC version of Hogwarts Legacy through Steam or Epic Games Store.
- Open the game’s main-menu mod experience and browse the available listings.
- Open a mod’s project page or details before installing. Check its description, update information, and compatibility notes; back up a save when the author recommends it.
- Install through the in-game mod experience, then follow any instructions shown there or on the project page.
Warner Bros. Games says players can discover PC mods directly in the game. The official FAQ also distinguishes player mod use from Creator Kit access: the Creator Kit is authoring software, available free through the Epic Games Store, and accounts must be linked for Creator Kit use or uploading. Those creator requirements are not needed simply to browse player mods.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to choose without mistaking popularity for quality
- Want a new place to explore? Start with Diagon Alley London & Knockturn Alley and review the author’s current feature list.
- Want a different player-character look? Compare Ancient DarkRot’s compatibility notes with your setup and back up your save as its page advises.
- Want more hairstyles? Banging Hairstyles for FMC is a specific option if you can do without hats and hoods while using them.
- Want NPC or world changes? Browse the live catalog for NPC clothing, outfits, and other world-focused projects, then read each listing rather than relying on catalog placement.
Catalog order and download counters can help surface projects, but neither is an independent quality test. No comparative review score or performance benchmark is established for these picks, so treat the list as a goal-based shortlist rather than a universal ranking.
