For Hogwarts Legacy’s announced DLSS 5 update, the supported NVIDIA graphics-card family is GeForce RTX 50 Series. NVIDIA announced the update on October 13, 2026, with a scheduled release date of November 5, 2026. That date had not yet arrived at the time of the announcement, so DLSS 5 support should be treated as scheduled rather than confirmed as launched. NVIDIA has not published an official model-by-model ranking, price comparison, or Hogwarts Legacy DLSS 5 benchmark. The right RTX 50 card therefore depends on your resolution, quality preset, ray-tracing plans, CPU, power supply, and budget—not on a proven universal “best” model.

The game already supports DLSS Multi Frame Generation and Ray Reconstruction on GeForce RTX PCs and laptops. The November update is intended to add DLSS Neural Rendering and upgrade the other DLSS technologies. Before buying, verify that the update has launched and check current independent benchmarks and prices for the specific RTX 50 model you are considering.

What is actually confirmed about DLSS 5 in Hogwarts Legacy?

NVIDIA’s announcement says, “NVIDIA DLSS 5 with 3D-Guided Neural Rendering is coming to Hogwarts Legacy on November 5th, for GeForce RTX 50 Series, GeForce NOW, and RTX Spark.” This establishes a supported product family and an announced date, but not the performance of an individual desktop or laptop card. It also does not establish a minimum RTX 50 model, a required amount of video memory, or a recommended price tier.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

At the October 13 announcement date, NVIDIA said the PC game already included DLSS Multi Frame Generation and Ray Reconstruction. The DLSS 5 update is described as adding Neural Rendering and upgrading the existing DLSS technologies. If you are purchasing before November 5, or if the date changes, you are buying for the current game first and for a promised feature second.

The same announcement says Hogwarts Legacy has sold more than 40 million copies. That is NVIDIA’s figure, dated October 13, 2026, rather than an independently audited sales estimate.

Which RTX 50 Series GPU is best for your target?

There is no evidence-based model ranking yet. Use the following framework to choose a performance class, then verify the exact card with current tests after the update is available.

1080p at high quality

The official PC specification lists a GeForce GTX 1080 Ti for 1080p at 60 frames per second on the high preset. That is a game requirement tier, not a forecast for DLSS 5. For a new purchase centered on the announced feature, select an RTX 50 model whose independent Hogwarts Legacy tests meet your desired frame rate at 1080p with your intended ray-tracing settings. At this resolution, a fast CPU can become the limiting component, so spending more on the GPU may not increase displayed frames once the processor is saturated.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

1080p also makes it easier to encounter a processor or game-engine limit rather than a shader-performance limit. If your monitor is 60 Hz, a card capable of much higher generated frame rates may provide little visible benefit. If you use a high-refresh display, check tests that report lows and frame times, not just an average. A stable 90 or 120 fps experience is more useful than a short peak that collapses in busy areas.

1440p at ultra quality

The official ultra tier names a GeForce RTX 2080 Ti for 1440p at 60 fps. A 1440p player who wants ray-traced effects should leave headroom above that baseline and compare RTX 50 cards using tests that enable the same effects and image-quality settings you plan to use. Do not treat a DLSS-generated frame rate as equivalent to the card’s native rendered performance; the two measurements answer different questions.

At this resolution, a sensible comparison starts with the base render at native resolution or with the same Super Resolution mode on every card. Then examine the result with Multi Frame Generation enabled. This separates the GPU’s ability to render the scene from its ability to display additional generated frames. Keep the monitor’s refresh rate and adaptive-sync behavior in mind when deciding how much headroom is worthwhile.

4K at ultra quality

The official 4K ultra tier lists a GeForce RTX 3090 Ti for 2160p at 60 fps. This is the most demanding listed target and the one most likely to benefit from a higher-end RTX 50 model, but the available announcement does not identify which model is sufficient or best value. Check tests at 4K ultra, with and without ray tracing, and look for sustained frame-time results rather than a single peak number.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For a 4K purchase, compare the exact settings you will use, including texture quality, ray-traced options, and the chosen DLSS mode. A card that reaches 60 fps in a short benchmark may fall below that target in large outdoor areas or during traversal. Independent testing should also show whether a result comes from native rendering, Super Resolution, or Multi Frame Generation.

Ray tracing is part of the decision

If you intend to use Hogwarts Legacy’s ray-traced effects, compare cards under ray-tracing workloads. NVIDIA describes Ray Reconstruction as part of the game’s existing RTX feature set, while Super Resolution and Multi Frame Generation are separate DLSS components. A card that looks adequate in a rasterized test may deliver a different experience with ray tracing enabled.

Ask reviewers to identify every active feature. “DLSS on” can mean Super Resolution alone, Super Resolution plus Ray Reconstruction, or a combination that also includes generated frames. Those configurations should not be mixed into a single ranking. Also check screenshots or video when possible, because a higher counter reading does not automatically mean better lighting stability or fewer artifacts.

Official Hogwarts Legacy PC targets

The game’s published specification page lists the following combinations. These are target tiers supplied by the game publisher, not current comparative tests of RTX 50 cards.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Target tier NVIDIA GPU listed Resolution and frame-rate target Quality Memory and storage
Minimum GeForce GTX 960 4GB 720p / 30 fps Lower quality 16 GB RAM; 85 GB HDD, SSD recommended
Recommended GeForce GTX 1080 Ti 1080p / 60 fps High quality 16 GB RAM; 85 GB SSD
Ultra GeForce RTX 2080 Ti 1440p / 60 fps Ultra quality 32 GB RAM; 85 GB SSD
Ultra 4K GeForce RTX 3090 Ti 2160p / 60 fps Ultra quality 32 GB RAM; 85 GB SSD

Every tier lists Windows 10 64-bit and DirectX 12. The page also lists AMD and Intel alternatives: Radeon RX 470 4GB at minimum, RX 5700 XT or Intel Arc A770 at recommended, Radeon RX 6800 XT at ultra, and Radeon RX 7900 XT at ultra 4K. Those alternatives help explain the publisher’s target classes, but they do not establish how any RTX 50 card compares with them.

The listed CPU requirements vary by tier; consult the official specification page rather than assuming a GPU upgrade can compensate for an underpowered processor. The table also shows why resolution matters: the publisher moves from 16 GB to 32 GB of system memory at the ultra tiers, and from an HDD option at minimum to an SSD requirement for higher targets.

How DLSS 5 changes the GPU question

3D-Guided Neural Rendering

NVIDIA describes DLSS 5 as 3D-Guided Neural Rendering. The rendered frame—including artist-created geometry, textures, and lighting buffers—provides the foundation. A neural-rendering stage then generates lighting and material detail. NVIDIA says Avalanche Software used SDK controls to tune the integration so that the game’s artistic intent and style are maintained. Those statements describe NVIDIA’s announced design; they are not an independent image-quality evaluation.

This description also explains why a DLSS 5 label is not a substitute for a conventional GPU comparison. The feature operates on the game’s rendered inputs and relies on the supported platform and software integration. A card still has to produce the underlying frame at an acceptable frame time, and the quality of the final image must be judged in the game rather than inferred from the feature name.

Multi Frame Generation is not the same as rendered performance

NVIDIA’s developer documentation describes DLSS Multi Frame Generation as generating up to five frames per rendered frame on GeForce RTX 50 Series and RTX PRO Blackwell GPUs with fifth-generation Tensor Cores. Generated frames can raise the displayed frame rate, but they do not mean the GPU is rendering five additional complete frames in the traditional way. When comparing cards, examine base rendering performance, frame-time consistency, input latency, and the generated output separately.

  • OC Mode : 1500 MHz (Boost Clock)/Default Mode : 1470 MHz (Boost Clock)

Super Resolution reconstructs a higher-resolution image from a lower-resolution render. Ray Reconstruction targets ray-traced image quality. Multi Frame Generation creates additional displayed frames. Neural Rendering is the newly announced DLSS 5 element. Enabling one does not automatically make the others equivalent, and a title’s support for the feature does not create a model-specific buying recommendation.

The broad developer description covers RTX 50 Series and RTX PRO Blackwell hardware, while the Hogwarts Legacy announcement specifically names GeForce RTX 50 Series, GeForce NOW, and RTX Spark. Do not extend the game announcement to an unlisted desktop, laptop, or professional product without a confirmed compatibility statement.

What NVIDIA’s existing Hogwarts Legacy numbers do—and do not—show

In its DLSS 4 announcement, NVIDIA reported that combining Multi Frame Generation, Super Resolution, and Ray Reconstruction produced an average 4x frame-rate multiplier on GeForce RTX 50 Series compared with traditional brute-force rendering. NVIDIA also reported up to 210 fps with ray tracing and maximum settings, compared with a stated 110 fps CPU bottleneck. These are vendor-reported DLSS 4 figures from NVIDIA’s announcement, not independent tests, not a guarantee for every RTX 50 model, and not DLSS 5 benchmarks.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The 110 fps CPU-bottleneck figure is especially important for buyers targeting very high refresh rates. Once the processor limits the game, moving to a more powerful graphics card may not raise the useful frame rate. Match the card to the resolution and display you actually use, and check CPU-limited test results where available.

Do not convert the 4x multiplier into a promised frame rate for your system. NVIDIA’s wording describes an average under its stated conditions; it does not identify a single RTX 50 model, every game location, every driver, or every quality combination. A future DLSS 5 implementation may also behave differently from the DLSS 4 configuration used for those figures.

GeForce RTX 50 desktop, laptop, cloud, and RTX Spark choices

The announcement names a family and two other delivery platforms, not an individual card list. A desktop RTX 50 purchase gives you a local graphics card, but the announcement does not say which desktop model is the minimum or the best value. Laptop RTX 50 systems should be checked by their exact laptop GPU and power configuration; the announcement does not publish a laptop-by-model requirement or benchmark.

GeForce NOW is a cloud option rather than a card installed in your computer. Your experience will also depend on the streaming service configuration, network connection, display, and subscription tier, none of which is specified in the Hogwarts Legacy announcement. RTX Spark is likewise named as a supported platform, but the announcement does not provide a Hogwarts Legacy performance table or purchasing specification for it. Treat these as compatibility avenues, not as proof that one is preferable to a local RTX 50 card.

A practical buying process

  1. Set the display target. Decide whether you are targeting 1080p, 1440p, or 4K, and whether 60 fps is sufficient or your monitor requires a higher refresh rate.
  2. Choose the quality and ray-tracing mode. Record the exact preset and ray-traced effects you intend to enable. Comparisons are meaningful only when the settings match.
  3. Decide between local and hosted play. A desktop or laptop requires compatible local hardware; GeForce NOW is a cloud platform named by NVIDIA, and RTX Spark is another named platform. Their practical requirements and costs are not supplied in the announcement, so verify them separately.
  4. Limit the search to compatible hardware. The announced Hogwarts Legacy DLSS 5 update names GeForce RTX 50 Series, GeForce NOW, and RTX Spark. For a local PC graphics-card purchase, that makes the RTX 50 Series the relevant family.
  5. Verify the update status. NVIDIA scheduled the update for November 5, 2026. Confirm that it actually shipped, and check the game and driver release notes, before treating DLSS 5 as an available feature.
  6. Compare independent tests of the exact model. Look for Hogwarts Legacy results at your resolution, with your quality and ray-tracing settings. Separate native or Super Resolution rendering from Multi Frame Generation results.
  7. Check the rest of the system. Confirm CPU capability, at least the game’s listed RAM tier, a suitable power supply, case clearance, cooling, and the display connection required by your monitor.
  8. Recheck price and stock at purchase time. Current RTX 50 pricing and availability were not established by the announcement and can change independently of DLSS support.

System requirements beyond the graphics card

  • Operating system and API: Windows 10 64-bit and DirectX 12 are listed across the official tiers.
  • Memory: The minimum and recommended tiers list 16 GB RAM; the ultra and ultra 4K tiers list 32 GB.
  • Storage: The game lists 85 GB. An SSD is recommended at minimum and specified for the higher tiers.
  • Processor balance: CPU requirements change by target tier, and NVIDIA’s DLSS 4 example reached a stated CPU bottleneck at 110 fps. A GPU upgrade cannot remove a processor limit.
  • Power and fit: Check the chosen card’s connector, power-supply requirement, length, thickness, and case airflow before ordering. These details are model-specific and are not supplied by the DLSS 5 announcement.
  • Display: Make sure the monitor supports the resolution and refresh rate you are trying to drive. A very high generated frame rate is of limited value on a 60 Hz display.

How to configure and evaluate DLSS after the update

Once the update is live, install the current graphics driver, update Hogwarts Legacy, and open the game’s graphics settings. Enable the DLSS options exposed by the updated build, then test the same scene with each feature combination you care about. Keep a baseline with frame generation disabled so you can distinguish the card’s rendered performance from generated frames.

Use a repeatable route through the same area, note average and low frame rates, and watch frame-time behavior while moving the camera and entering busy locations. Compare image stability, lighting detail, latency, and visual artifacts—not only the headline fps number. If frame generation feels delayed or uneven, lower the base workload first by adjusting resolution, ray tracing, or quality; adding generated frames does not remove a CPU or rendering bottleneck.

Record the driver version, game build, resolution, preset, ray-tracing switches, DLSS mode, and whether Multi Frame Generation is active. Without those details, two apparently conflicting results may simply be testing different workloads. Repeat the run after major game or driver updates because performance and image behavior can change.

Common mistakes when choosing an RTX 50 card

Buying on the DLSS 5 label alone

All RTX 50 models belong to the announced supported family, but support does not tell you how fast a particular model will render Hogwarts Legacy at your preferred settings. Wait for model-specific testing and compare the results with your display target.

Confusing a vendor multiplier with a guaranteed frame rate

The 4x multiplier and up-to-210-fps figure come from NVIDIA’s DLSS 4 announcement under its stated conditions. They are not promises for every system, game area, driver, or DLSS 5 configuration.

Ignoring the CPU

At 1080p and high refresh rates, the processor can cap performance before the GPU is fully used. NVIDIA’s stated 110-fps CPU bottleneck illustrates why a faster card alone may not solve the problem.

Using the official tiers as modern RTX rankings

The GTX 960, GTX 1080 Ti, RTX 2080 Ti, and RTX 3090 Ti entries define the game publisher’s resolution and quality targets. They do not establish how RTX 50 models compare with one another, nor do they account for the announced DLSS 5 update.

Assuming every “DLSS” result is comparable

Super Resolution, Ray Reconstruction, Multi Frame Generation, and Neural Rendering perform different jobs. A chart that mixes native, reconstructed, and generated-frame results can make a slower base render appear equal to a faster one.

Assuming the scheduled date is a launch confirmation

The November 5, 2026 date was announced in advance. If you are reading after that date, verify the released patch and feature list; if you are reading before it, treat DLSS 5 as future support.

Is an RTX 40 or older card supported?

The Hogwarts Legacy DLSS 5 announcement names GeForce RTX 50 Series, GeForce NOW, and RTX Spark. It does not establish DLSS 5 support for RTX 40 or older local GPUs. Do not assume compatibility from earlier DLSS features.

What is the best NVIDIA GPU for 1440p?

The official 1440p ultra target lists an RTX 2080 Ti, but that is not a modern RTX 50 recommendation. Compare current RTX 50 cards at 1440p ultra with the ray tracing and DLSS configuration you intend to use, then select the model that meets your frame-time and budget goals.

What GPU is best for 4K Hogwarts Legacy?

The publisher’s 4K ultra tier lists an RTX 3090 Ti. NVIDIA has not published a DLSS 5 model ranking, so use independent 4K tests with your chosen ray-tracing and DLSS settings and allow headroom for sustained performance.

Does Multi Frame Generation mean the GPU renders five times as much?

No. NVIDIA describes it as generating up to five additional frames per rendered frame on supported RTX 50 and RTX PRO Blackwell hardware. Generated frames can increase the displayed counter, but base rendering performance, frame time, and latency still matter.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How much RAM and storage does the game require?

The official specifications list 16 GB RAM and 85 GB of storage for minimum and recommended tiers, with an SSD recommended at minimum. Ultra and ultra 4K list 32 GB RAM and an 85 GB SSD.

Should I buy a desktop card or a laptop?

The announcement covers GeForce RTX 50 Series PCs and laptops but does not provide laptop model requirements or comparative results. Compare the exact laptop GPU, power configuration, cooling, display resolution, and independent Hogwarts Legacy tests rather than assuming desktop and laptop performance is identical.

Can GeForce NOW provide DLSS 5 without an RTX card?

GeForce NOW is one of the platforms NVIDIA names for the update, but the announcement does not specify service tiers, streaming requirements, or performance. Verify the current cloud offering and network requirements separately.

Bottom line for 1080p, 1440p, and 4K buyers

Choose a GeForce RTX 50 Series card if DLSS 5 in Hogwarts Legacy is the deciding feature, but do not select a specific model from the available official information alone. For 1080p, prioritize CPU balance and avoid paying for GPU power your processor or monitor cannot use. For 1440p, compare RTX 50 models under the exact ultra and ray-tracing settings you want. For 4K, seek the model that independent tests show can sustain your target frame rate, with enough headroom for ray tracing and future patches. In every case, verify the November 5 update, current prices, and real model-level benchmarks before buying.
