If you stream to YouTube, its recommended H.264 ingest bitrate for 720p30 is 3 Mbps; that is a YouTube-specific target, not a guarantee that any Indian broadband plan will support a stable 24/7 broadcast. Test from the computer and network you will use, monitor dropped frames and stream health, and lower the bitrate or output settings if the connection falters.
Start with a restrained OBS output
For a mostly static rain scene, 1280×720 at 30 fps is a sensible trial setup—not an official rain preset or universal optimum. A rain loop usually gains little from the extra motion smoothness of 60 fps, while higher resolution and frame rate can increase bandwidth and computer demands. OBS notes that 60 fps can be more taxing than 30 fps, and that output resolution should match the stream output you want. Set the output resolution and frame rate
In OBS, open Settings > Video. Set Output (Scaled) Resolution to 1280×720 for the starting trial and Common FPS Values to 30. Choose a canvas resolution that fits your source and scene layout; the scaled output determines the resolution sent to the platform. If your source is a still image or slow-moving rain footage, start at 30 fps rather than increasing frame rate by default.
Choose the destination and bitrate
There is no reliable India-wide upload-speed figure established for this use. Broadband packages advertise many different conditions, and the upload available to your streaming computer can vary with Wi-Fi, household traffic, congestion, routing, and time of day. Size the stream against sustained upload at the actual location—not the plan’s download speed or a single speed-test result.

YouTube-specific starting values
If YouTube is your destination and you use H.264, YouTube’s published live encoder guidance recommends 3 Mbps for 720p30 and 5 Mbps for 1080p30. It also specifies CBR, recommends a 2-second keyframe interval, and says not to exceed 4 seconds. These are YouTube ingest recommendations; check the current requirements of another platform instead of applying them automatically. YouTube live encoder settings
Set the YouTube encoder options in OBS
Open Settings > Output and select Advanced output mode if needed to expose the streaming encoder controls. For a YouTube H.264 stream, use CBR and set the bitrate to match the chosen output and YouTube’s guidance. Set Keyframe Interval to 2 seconds. OBS menu names and available encoders can vary with version and hardware; the values above are for the destination’s ingest requirements, not a claim that every encoder behaves identically.

Leave room for network variation
OBS’s connection troubleshooting guidance says 75% of total upload speed is a good starting bitrate when diagnosing dropped frames. YouTube separately recommends leaving 20% bandwidth headroom beyond the total stream bitrate, noting that other network use can limit what is available to the stream. These are separate vendor rules of thumb, not a formula to combine into a guaranteed minimum. Test the connection before going live for hours
A speed test is a snapshot, not proof that a connection will hold a continuous broadcast. Test at the computer, router, and network arrangement that will run OBS, ideally during representative household internet use. OBS strongly recommends testing before the first live stream; YouTube also advises testing and checking stream health.

- Connect as you plan to broadcast. Use the same computer and network location you will use for the 24/7 stream. Prefer Ethernet where practical; OBS warns that Wi-Fi may be unstable for streaming.
- Run a private or unlisted test if the platform permits it. Include the rain visual, audio, and any loop or scene transitions you intend to use.
- Watch OBS statistics. Check for dropped frames and signs that the encoder or computer is struggling. Keep the test running long enough to catch instability rather than relying on a brief check.
- Check the platform’s stream-health indicators. For YouTube, monitor its live control-room health messages while the test is active.
- Adjust one constraint at a time. If the connection drops frames, reduce bitrate first; if the computer cannot encode smoothly, reduce output demands such as resolution or frame rate.
OBS’s streaming guide recommends testing, and YouTube’s encoder guidance calls for testing upload speed and the stream.
Build reliability into a 24/7 setup
“24/7” is an operating goal, not something a bitrate setting guarantees. OBS says dropped frames can mean the connection cannot sustain the selected bitrate or that the route to the ingest server is unstable. A wired connection can remove Wi-Fi instability, but it cannot cure every ISP, routing, congestion, router, or hardware problem.

- Use Ethernet when feasible. It can avoid wireless interference and fluctuations, though it does not prevent ISP outages or upstream congestion.
- Lower bitrate when OBS reports dropped frames. OBS suggests 75% of total upload speed as a troubleshooting starting point, then recommends further diagnosis if the issue persists.
- Try another ingest server if your service offers one. A different route may help when the current path is unstable.
- Check local causes. VPNs, security software, bundled network utilities, outdated drivers, and modem/router issues can interfere with streaming; provider-side changes may be beyond your control.
- Enable and test reconnect behavior. OBS includes automatic reconnect among its advanced settings. It can help after a brief interruption, but it is not a promise of uninterrupted operation.
For a 24/7 stream, test the complete configuration—including audio, the visual loop, reconnection behavior, and the destination platform—before relying on it for an extended run. OBS’s troubleshooting steps are documented at Stream Connection Troubleshooting.

OBS dropped frames point to a problem delivering the stream from the broadcaster’s setup to the ingest service. Viewer buffering can happen even when OBS reports no dropped frames, because playback conditions and viewer bandwidth are separate. OBS notes that lowering bitrate may help reach viewers with slower connections, particularly on services without transcoding. Troubleshoot common problems
