What makes the history useful
A single profile update shows a current state. The useful long-term information appears after subsequent updates, when the service can compare one snapshot with another. Wise Old Man documentation specifies that at least two snapshots are required to calculate gains over a time window. That requirement is easy to overlook: creating a profile on the day you begin a goal does not, by itself, create a trend line.
Historical snapshots are valuable for ironman or main-account journals, returning players who want to measure a rebuild, and clan members who need a shared record of weekly or monthly activity. The service can expose gains, records, achievements, activity, and ranking movement without asking you to maintain a spreadsheet manually.
How to start a reliable record
- Create or update the profile early. Request an account update on the Wise Old Man website before beginning a long project. This establishes the first dated snapshot.
- Choose an update route. You can request updates on the website, install the Wise Old Man RuneLite plugin for logout-based updates, or use the Discord bot. Select one method that fits how you play; the important point is that updates are opt-in rather than silently collected.
- Keep the cadence consistent. Ask for another update after a meaningful period of play. Once two snapshots exist, period gains become calculable; additional snapshots make changes easier to interpret.
- Use the history to review the account. Check gains, records, achievements, activity, and leaderboard position when deciding whether a target is progressing at the intended pace.
Clan and group tools
Wise Old Man is the clear choice when the account is part of a group. Its group features support competitions, clan rankings, member-list changes, and inactivity views. What Wise Old Man does not replace
The service depends on snapshots being requested, so an absent update can make an account appear unchanged even when you have played extensively. It also is not a complete in-game prerequisite planner. Use it to answer what has happened to the account and how gains compare across periods; use a RuneLite planning tool to answer which requirements remain before a specific objective.

OSRS Goal Planner is a RuneLite sidebar plugin for players who have a destination in mind but need the route decomposed. It covers skills, quests, achievement diaries, combat achievements, bosses, item grinds, and account milestones. Adding a top-level goal can seed a prerequisite tree containing skills, earlier quests, items, account metrics, and boss-kill requirements.
How its dependency tree changes planning
Instead of writing a flat checklist such as quest, boss, gear, and level, you start with the outcome and let the planner expose blockers. A quest can reveal prerequisite quests and skills. Set up a complex goal
- Enable the plugin in RuneLite. Confirm that the current OSRS Goal Planner project is available and maintained before committing a campaign to it; plugin availability can change.
- Add the top-level objective. Select the quest, achievement diary, combat-achievement task, boss, item grind, or account milestone that represents the destination.
- Review every generated branch. Separate skill requirements, prior quests, item requirements, account metrics, and boss-kill conditions. Treat each branch as a blocker category rather than one undifferentiated list.
- Work from the leaves upward. Complete the lowest-level requirement that unlocks other branches, then return to the tree and reassess what remains.
- Let the client update the cards. The planner reads game state: skills by XP, quests by completion state, diaries by varbit, combat-achievement tasks, boss kill counts, item counts, and account metrics. Progress should therefore change as the relevant in-game state changes.
When it is the right tool
Use this planner for a recipe-like project: a quest cape route, a diary tier, a combat-achievement target, a boss introduction, or an item grind with multiple prerequisites. OSRS Goal Planner is primarily a live, in-client planning view. The cited feature set does not establish a durable web history or the clan-ranking functions provided by Wise Old Man. Because it is a RuneLite plugin project, verify its current availability and maintenance before relying on it for a campaign expected to last months or years.
RuneLite XP Tracker: best for skill milestones
RuneLite’s official XP Tracker is the simplest option when the target is a skill level rather than an account-wide plan. - Open RuneLite’s XP Tracker and level-goals interface. Choose the skill you are training.
- Select a target above your current level. The tracker displays progress toward that selected goal rather than stopping at the next level.
- Train while watching the remaining XP. Use the value to decide whether to continue the current activity or switch to another method that fits the milestone.
- Set another goal after completion. Once the selected goal is passed, the tracker returns to showing progress toward the next level.
This behavior is useful for chaining milestones. You can set the level needed for a quest, replace it with a diary requirement, and later set a long-term level 99 target without needing a separate historical service.
