The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Complete Edition is the closest currently available broad-fantasy alternative to Oblivion Remastered on Switch 2. Choose Fallout 4: Anniversary Edition if Bethesda-style freedom, first-person exploration, factions, looting and crafting matter more than a fantasy setting. Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition is the strongest futuristic first-person option, while Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is the one to watch for grounded medieval role-play once its Switch 2 release is confirmed.
Oblivion Remastered launched on Nintendo Switch 2 on August 11, 2026. It recreates Cyrodiil and the planes of Oblivion with updated visuals, refined gameplay and Switch 2 motion controls, and includes the Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine story expansions. The alternatives below are ranked by how closely they reproduce the parts of that formula players usually value: a large explorable world, quest freedom, role-playing choices, combat perspective and a substantial amount of story content.

What makes an alternative feel like Oblivion Remastered?
There is no single substitute for Oblivion because its appeal comes from several systems working together. Cyrodiil is a high-fantasy open world filled with cities, wilderness, dungeons, guilds and optional encounters. You can follow the main story, join factions, wander into side quests or simply explore. The game also combines first-person play with character progression, magic and equipment choices.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Complete Edition
Why it is the closest broad-fantasy substitute
The Witcher 3 is the best first recommendation when the important words in your request are “fantasy,” “open world” and “quests.” Nintendo Life describes it as one of the strongest open-world experiences on Nintendo hardware and reports that the Switch version holds up well. Its world is expansive, varied and designed to reward detours, making it the nearest overall replacement for the feeling of leaving a city and discovering something unexpected.
The tone is more mature and deliberately authored than Oblivion. You play Geralt of Rivia rather than creating an entirely new hero, and the story regularly places moral consequences in front of you. That reduces some of the blank-slate role-playing freedom, but it gives individual quests unusually strong character writing and context.

Combat and character building
Combat is third-person rather than Oblivion’s first-person-focused system. Geralt uses swords, signs and alchemy, with upgrades that shape how those tools work. The result is an action-oriented build system instead of a broad skill sandbox in which any citizen of Cyrodiil can become a thief, mage, fighter or hybrid.
Choose it if you want to read, investigate and make consequential decisions while travelling through a large fantasy landscape. Do not choose it expecting the same guild structure, spell experimentation or first-person perspective as Oblivion.
Edition and availability considerations
The relevant package is The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Complete Edition. The supplied availability description identifies it as a current Nintendo hardware option, but does not establish a separate Switch 2 retail edition, regional price, stock level or physical-versus-digital policy. Check the listing for your country before buying, particularly if you specifically require a Switch 2-labelled box or a physical cartridge.
Fallout 4: Anniversary Edition
The closest structural match to Bethesda’s open-world design
Fallout 4 changes swords and spells for firearms, scavenged technology and a devastated version of Boston, but its underlying structure is the most familiar alternative for an Oblivion player. Nintendo describes a massive open world containing hundreds of locations, characters and quests. The game also includes six official add-ons and more than 150 Creation Club content items in the Anniversary Edition.
That scale matters because the appeal is not only the main plot. You can follow faction storylines, search abandoned buildings, collect equipment, modify weapons, help settlements and decide how much of the central conflict to engage with. The world’s post-apocalyptic theme is harsher and more industrial than Cyrodiil, but the rhythm of wandering, discovering a location and finding a new objective is recognisably Bethesda.
First-person combat, crafting and settlement choices
The game supports first-person play and gives you a large arsenal rather than a spellbook. V.A.T.S. pauses or slows encounters while you select targets, adding a tactical layer that has no direct equivalent in Oblivion. Character progression lets you specialise in weapons, stealth, science, charisma or survival-oriented abilities.
Crafting and settlement building are much more prominent than in Oblivion. You can dismantle materials, modify weapons and armour, and construct facilities for settlements. Those systems make Fallout 4 a particularly strong choice if your favourite part of Bethesda games is collecting, improving and rebuilding rather than magical exploration.
Rank #2
- Traverse a vibrant world, assemble units and direct them into exquisitely animated battles.
- Perform heroic deeds and grow renown throughout the five nations.
- Cultivate a grand army with over 60 unique characters, from humans and elves to massive beasts and heavenly angels.
What you give up compared with Oblivion
There is no high-fantasy magic system, and the visual language is retro-futurist rather than medieval. Faction decisions can be consequential, but the role-playing premise is still built around a defined protagonist and a specific post-apocalyptic history. If you want to invent a completely open-ended fantasy identity, The Witcher 3 or Oblivion itself is a better fit; if you want Bethesda’s quest-and-discovery framework, Fallout 4 is the stronger match.
Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition
The best futuristic first-person alternative
Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition is a 2025 Switch 2 action RPG set in Night City. GamesRadar describes a detailed open world, strong quest lines, first-person elements combined with action-RPG mechanics and all downloadable content in the Ultimate Edition.
Night City differs from Cyrodiil in an important way: it is a dense urban environment rather than a fantasy province of roads, forests and villages. Exploration is frequently vertical and architectural. Streets, interiors, missions and investigations are packed into a comparatively concentrated space, so the sensation is less about crossing wilderness and more about navigating districts with different identities.
How its role-playing works
You build a version of V by selecting attributes, perks, cyberware and weapons. Guns, hacking and close-range attacks can support very different approaches, and quests often let you investigate, negotiate or fight. The first-person view makes shooting and environmental encounters feel immediate, while the action-RPG layer provides progression beyond raw weapon damage.
The game’s storytelling is mature science fiction rather than heroic fantasy. It is a good choice when you want authored quests, investigation and build experimentation but do not need spells, medieval guilds or a natural landscape. It is a weaker choice if your ideal alternative is a quiet walk between towns, dungeon crawling or a traditional magic system.

Switch 2 edition
The Switch 2 version is listed as a 2025 release, so it is a current option rather than a future announcement. The Ultimate Edition includes all DLC. Regional packaging, physical availability and pricing are not established in the supplied information; verify those details with the retailer serving your region.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 – Royal Edition
A grounded medieval game to watch
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is the closest thematic option for players who want medieval life without Oblivion’s magic-heavy setting. GamesRadar describes a sprawling medieval open world in which Henry of Skalitz can navigate the world and quests with considerable freedom.
Its appeal is immersion rather than fantasy spectacle. Armour, weapons, social status and historical surroundings define the experience. The setting can feel closer to a lived-in medieval society than to a world built around monsters, portals and magical guilds.
Why it is not a current recommendation yet
The Switch 2 release window is listed as TBC 2027. That means the date is subject to change and the game should not be presented as playable on Switch 2 until a confirmed release and retail listing exist. You can treat it as a future alternative, not as a substitute to purchase alongside the currently available games.
Its grounded design also means it will not replace Oblivion’s spellcasting, supernatural creatures or fantastical planes. Select it when historical role-play, a medieval setting and flexible quest navigation matter more than magic.
Rank #3
- Signs of the end times draw powerful heroes from all over sanctuary to rise up and defeat an evil reborn
- Challenge death itself as maltha-angel of death-attempts to harness the infernal powers of the black soul stone
- Commanding the powers of blood, bone, and armies of undead, the Necromancer joins the fight
- Supported play modes-TV mode, Tabletop mode, Handheld mode. Game file size:15.7 GB
Which alternative matches each part of Oblivion?
For fantasy atmosphere and quest writing
Choose The Witcher 3. It preserves the broadest combination of fantasy travel, varied environments and story-rich side quests. Its third-person combat and fixed protagonist are the main compromises.
For Bethesda-style freedom
Choose Fallout 4. It most closely reproduces the loop of entering a large world, finding locations, collecting equipment, joining competing factions and pursuing objectives in your own order. The setting shifts from high fantasy to post-apocalyptic science fiction.
For first-person combat
Choose Fallout 4 for a Bethesda-style first-person structure or Cyberpunk 2077 for faster gunplay and a denser urban environment. Neither offers Oblivion’s magic system.

For the most distinctive world to explore
The Witcher 3 offers a broad fantasy continent, Fallout 4 offers hundreds of locations in a ruined world, and Cyberpunk 2077 concentrates detail into Night City. The choice is between breadth, systemic discovery and urban density rather than a simple winner.
For medieval role-play without magic
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is the clear thematic fit, but its TBC 2027 Switch 2 window makes it a future purchase rather than a current one.
Current versus announced Switch 2 availability
| Game | Availability position | What to verify before purchase |
|---|---|---|
| Oblivion Remastered | Launched August 11, 2026 | Whether your preferred standard or deluxe retail package is in stock; the announcement confirms the two major story expansions and motion-control support |
| The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Complete Edition | Current Nintendo hardware release identified | Regional Switch 2 compatibility, stock, price and physical or digital format |
| Fallout 4: Anniversary Edition | Announced for Switch 2 | Release timing, regional edition and retail format |
| Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition | Released for Switch 2 in 2025 | Regional price, stock and physical or digital format |
| Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 – Royal Edition | TBC 2027 for Switch 2 | Confirmed date, technical details and retail listings |
The date distinction is important. A game with an announced port is not necessarily available to play, and a Nintendo Switch release listing does not automatically establish a separate Switch 2 physical edition in every region.
How to choose in five questions
- Do you want fantasy above all else? Pick The Witcher 3. If magic is optional and historical realism appeals, monitor Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.
- Do you want the closest Bethesda structure? Pick Fallout 4, whose locations, factions, quests, crafting and exploration most closely follow the same systemic template.
- Do you prefer guns and hacking to swords? Pick Cyberpunk 2077 for a futuristic city and first-person action, or Fallout 4 for a more open-ended wasteland.
- Is a blank-slate character essential? None of these alternatives reproduces Oblivion exactly. Fallout 4 offers broad build choices, while The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 place you in more defined protagonists.
- Must you play on Switch 2 immediately? Start with The Witcher 3 or the currently released Cyberpunk 2077 edition, and check the confirmed status of Fallout 4 in your region. Do not buy Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 for Switch 2 until its release is confirmed.
