Start with what viewers need to know—such as your name, commission status, or queue—and place it in a margin or corner. Then preview it over your actual canvas capture at the size viewers will see. There is no universally best vendor: choose between a ready-made theme, individual widgets, or a custom layout based on your setup.
What an art-stream overlay should do
An overlay can label the stream, show an alert, or explain how a commission queue works. It should support the drawing rather than compete with it. A commission-stream guide identifies useful details such as what is being drawn, a viewer’s queue position, and how to buy a slot; those details are most helpful when they do not obscure the work.
- Protect the canvas: Keep borders, labels, and widgets away from the drawing, the artist’s hand, and important software controls.
- Show useful information: Prioritize a queue label, commission status, or alert over decoration that viewers do not need.
- Check legibility at output size: Small text may be unreadable on a phone; making it larger should not turn it into a block over the artwork.
- Preview the complete scene: Check the overlay with the actual canvas capture and other sources visible, not against a blank background.
These criteria are more reliable than a pack’s popularity or promotional claims. Streamlabs, for example, describes overlays as a way to “boost viewer engagement,” but its support article does not establish a measured engagement lift.
Where to find overlays and components
StreamElements: browse themes and individual elements
The StreamElements Elements Gallery offers themes, widgets, alerts, and scenes. The gallery describes “dozens of FREE animated alerts and overlays” and includes a Pixel Art Theme Package. Treat it as a discovery source: a pixel-art theme is not necessarily designed for drawing streams or commission queues, and the gallery description does not establish the price or usage terms of every item.

Streamlabs: search and install options
Streamlabs’ support guide, authored by Kevin and dated February 6, 2026, describes searching its overlay library by keyword, color, type, and other filters. It covers installation in Streamlabs Desktop, importing an .overlay file, and using overlays in OBS Studio with a plugin or scene import. The guide also says professionally designed overlays may include matching widgets such as Alert Box and Chat Box; check what is actually included before choosing a pack.

Custom design: for a specific canvas-and-camera arrangement
A custom layout may suit you if a ready-made pack cannot fit your canvas, camera, and queue information without covering the drawing. Before paying, agree on the deliverables, source-file format, revision limits, usage rights, and whether the design works in your streaming software. The StreamElements gallery links to a Fiverr destination, but that link alone does not establish current prices, licensing terms, or artist-specific service quality.

Choose a format that preserves transparency
For OBS overlays, Elgato’s guide recommends PNG for static assets that need transparency and WEBM for animated overlays that need transparent areas. A solid background behind an overlay can cover part of the canvas, so check transparency in the actual scene after adding the asset.
Elgato lists 16:9, 4:3, 9:16, and 1:1 as common webcam-overlay ratios. These are options to match a layout, not a rule that an art stream must use a particular shape. For guidance on OBS overlay formats and placement, see Elgato’s Stream Overlays guide.

Set up and check the overlay in OBS
An OBS browser source displays a webpage inside a scene, which can be useful for queue, alert, chat, or countdown widgets. Studio Queues describes these as examples for art streams. Browser-source dimensions should match the intended output, and transparency and scene behavior should be checked in context. A suggested pixel width from one guide is not a universal standard: choose dimensions based on your scene and the provider’s instructions.
- Decide what viewers need. Choose the minimum information to show—perhaps a name, commission status, or queue—and leave optional decoration out until the canvas is clear.
- Choose an asset or widget. Browse a theme or individual element, or use a browser source if the queue or alert provider gives you a widget URL and setup instructions.
- Add it to the scene. In OBS, add the supplied image or media asset as a source, or add a Browser source for a webpage widget. For an
.overlayfile or plugin-based installation, follow the relevant provider’s current steps. - Position and size it. Fit the element into a margin or corner. Keep it clear of the artwork, hand, and essential interface areas.
- Preview the live composition. Check text size, transparency, animation, and how alerts appear over the canvas. Test the scene at its intended output dimensions before relying on it live.
- Review the terms. Confirm current cost, included components, usage rights, and commercial-use permission on the provider’s page or with the designer. A free gallery does not make every item free or establish the license for every asset.
Compare options by fit, not by popularity
| What to compare | What to check for an art stream |
|---|---|
| Canvas visibility | Does the graphic cover the drawing, hand, or important software controls? |
| Information value | Does it convey something useful, such as a queue label or alert, or is it mainly decoration? |
| Readability | Can viewers read it at the intended output size without a large panel covering the canvas? |
| Asset behavior | Does the file preserve transparency, and is a static or animated format appropriate? |
| Software fit | Can you install it in your streaming software and reuse it in the scenes you need? |
| Customization | Can you adjust colors, labels, and placement to match your workflow? |
| Cost and rights | Are current price, included components, usage rights, and commercial-use terms stated for this specific item? |
Troubleshoot common overlay problems
The overlay covers the drawing
Move or resize it into a margin, or remove decorative elements you do not need. Check again with the canvas capture and hand visible; a placement that looks clear on an empty scene may block the work in progress.

Text is hard to read
Preview at the actual output size and simplify the label before enlarging its background. Keep text short and use a position with enough contrast against the scene.
A transparent area appears solid
Confirm the asset supports transparency and that the format and source type are appropriate. Elgato recommends PNG for static transparency and WEBM for animated transparency in OBS overlays.
An alert or queue widget does not fit the scene
Check the provider’s setup instructions, browser-source dimensions, and placement in the scene. Preview the widget with the artwork visible and confirm that it behaves as expected before going live.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the artwork is a prerecorded video that you want to loop as a YouTube livestream, StreamNeo is a separate option from overlay tools: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It plays uploaded videos, not a live camera feed, and streams to YouTube.
