Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →For a 720p YouTube Live stream from an Indian VPS, start with H.264 video at 6 Mbps CBR, AAC stereo audio at 128 Kbps and 44.1 kHz, and a keyframe every two seconds. Use YouTube’s stream-specific RTMPS endpoint and key on port 443. These are practical starting settings, not a guarantee that a particular VPS can encode or deliver the stream reliably.
Recommended 720p settings
YouTube’s current H.264 guidance lists the same video bitrate range for 720p30 and 720p60: 3 Mbps minimum and 8 Mbps recommended. A 6 Mbps target sits within that recommended range. YouTube recommends keyframes every two seconds and says not to exceed four seconds. Its advanced recommendations list 128 Kbps AAC stereo audio at a 44.1 kHz sample rate.
| Setting | Starting choice | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Resolution | 1280×720 | YouTube supports 720p ingestion. With a custom stream key, you can set resolution and frame rate; automatic detection is YouTube’s default and recommended behavior. YouTube encoder settings |
| Frame rate | 30 fps | Choose 60 fps if the content benefits from smoother motion and the VPS can encode it in real time. YouTube’s encoder guidance permits up to 60 fps. YouTube encoder settings |
| Video codec and rate control | H.264, CBR, 6 Mbps | YouTube lists 3 Mbps minimum and 8 Mbps recommended for both 720p30 and 720p60 H.264. The 6 Mbps value is a starting target, not a measured optimum for every source or VPS. YouTube encoder settings |
| Keyframes | Every 2 seconds | Do not use an interval longer than 4 seconds. YouTube encoder settings |
| Audio | AAC stereo, 128 Kbps, 44.1 kHz | YouTube accepts AAC or MP3; these AAC stereo values follow its advanced recommendations. YouTube encoder settings |
| Ingest | RTMPS over port 443 | Use the exact endpoint and stream key shown for your YouTube stream. YouTube RTMPS ingestion guide |
The bitrate figures are YouTube platform recommendations, not measurements of Indian VPS performance. YouTube advises running a speed test to check upload bitrate. YouTube’s encoder settings guidance
Example FFmpeg command for a prerecorded file
This template loops a local file at playback speed, scales it to 1280×720, encodes 30 fps H.264 and stereo AAC, then sends it to YouTube over RTMPS. Replace the input filename and output placeholder with your source file and the exact RTMPS ingest URL and key supplied by YouTube.

-c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 44100 -ac 2
-f flv 'RTMPS_INGEST_URL/STREAM_KEY'
The command is an example template, not a tested configuration for a particular VPS. FFmpeg can read files, pipes, network streams, and capture devices, and writes to an output URL; its automatic stream selection may need adjustment for some inputs. FFmpeg documentation
For 720p60
If you want 60 fps, change the filter to fps=60 and set -g 120 -keyint_min 120 for a two-second GOP at 60 frames per second. Keep the chosen frame rate within what the VPS can encode continuously in real time. YouTube lists the same H.264 bitrate recommendation for 720p60 as for 720p30, but this does not mean every source or encoder will look or perform identically at both frame rates. For live capture or a network input
The example assumes a prerecorded file. Adapt or omit -re and -stream_loop when your input is a live capture device or network stream; looping a file and pacing it in real time are not the same as capturing a live source. Use explicit stream mapping if FFmpeg selects the wrong audio or video stream. See the FFmpeg documentation for input, output, and stream-selection options.
Prepare and verify the VPS
- Check real-time encoding capacity. Confirm the selected VPS can sustain the chosen resolution, frame rate, and encoding preset without falling behind. There is no universal vCPU or RAM requirement established for this workload; CPU needs depend on the FFmpeg build, preset, input, and number of concurrent streams.
- Measure outbound bandwidth from the VPS. Run a speed test over the VPS’s actual network path and confirm stable upload capacity above the combined video and audio bitrate, with headroom for variation. YouTube specifically recommends testing upload bitrate. YouTube encoder settings
- Copy the stream-specific ingest details from YouTube. Use the exact RTMPS URL and key provided in YouTube Live Control Room or through the Live Streaming API. YouTube’s ingestion documentation specifies RTMPS and port 443. RTMPS ingestion guide
- Keep the key private. Do not publish a real stream key in a script, screenshot, or public repository. Treat it as a credential: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to that stream.
- Test representative material. Send a test with the same kind of motion and audio as the planned stream, then check YouTube’s stream health and messages while it is live. YouTube encoder settings
- Respond to health warnings. If YouTube flags bitrate, audio, or GOP settings, inspect the status details and correct the stream configuration. The Live Streaming API exposes health status and configuration issues. LiveStreams API
What the Indian VPS location does—and does not—tell you
An Indian data-center location alone does not establish that the VPS has enough CPU or a reliable route to YouTube’s ingest server. YouTube documents stream-side encoding and connection requirements, but does not specify an Indian VPS provider or quantify the resources required for this particular FFmpeg workload. Validate the actual plan, region, and stream rather than relying on a generic server-size claim.

Common problems and fixes
- YouTube reports unstable or insufficient bitrate: Check sustained upload from the VPS itself, not a separate home connection. Verify the configured CBR values and leave bandwidth headroom beyond the combined audio and video rates.
- The stream is choppy or FFmpeg falls behind: The VPS may not be encoding the selected frame rate in real time. Test 30 fps, reduce encoding demands by changing the preset or source workload, or choose a VPS plan that can sustain the intended encode. A location label does not confirm CPU capacity.
- YouTube rejects the connection: Confirm that the output uses the exact stream-specific RTMPS endpoint and key, and that outbound traffic can reach port 443. Do not substitute a guessed ingest URL. RTMPS ingestion guide
- Keyframe or GOP warning: For 30 fps, a two-second GOP is 60 frames; for 60 fps, it is 120. Match the GOP to the actual output frame rate and keep the interval within YouTube’s four-second maximum. YouTube encoder settings
- Audio is missing or wrong: Check that FFmpeg selected the intended audio stream, that the source contains audio, and that the output is configured for AAC stereo. Use explicit stream mapping when automatic selection chooses an unintended track. FFmpeg documentation
- A looped file does not behave as expected: The sample uses
-reand-stream_loop -1for a prerecorded file. For a live or network input, adapt those options rather than treating the input as a local looping recording.
Copyright and YouTube live eligibility
Only stream video and audio you have the rights to use, including material in a loop. A technically valid FFmpeg command does not establish that the content is permitted, or that a channel meets YouTube’s current live-streaming requirements. Check YouTube’s current rules and account status in YouTube Studio before planning a scheduled or continuous stream. For a practical rights review, use StreamNeo’s copyright safety checklist.
