For higher and steadier FPS in Palworld, start at 1080p with a frame-rate cap your PC can hold, then reduce settings in this order: resolution or upscaling, view distance, shadows, effects, post processing, and anti-aliasing. Keep textures higher unless your VRAM is filling or you see texture hitching. Disable motion blur and camera shake if you value a clear image, and test VSync according to whether tearing or input latency bothers you more.
Settings cannot compensate for a system below the game’s baseline. Pocketpair’s current Steam support listing specifies 16 GB of RAM at minimum and requires an SSD; it lists a GeForce RTX 3060 Ti or Radeon RX 6700 XT class GPU as the recommended level. Those are requirements, not a guaranteed FPS result.

- Choose 1080p and set a cap that your system can sustain in a busy base or during combat.
- Enable DLSS 2 if you have a supported RTX graphics card and the option appears in the menu.
- Lower view distance. This is often the most useful CPU-side reduction when the world is crowded or you are near a large base.
- Lower shadows. Shadow quality can be expensive on the GPU without changing gameplay information very much.
- Lower effects. This helps during attacks, weather, fire, and other scenes with many particles.
- Lower post processing. It can improve GPU headroom while preserving more geometry detail than reducing view distance.
- Lower anti-aliasing only as far as needed; reducing it can make foliage, wires, and distant edges shimmer.
- Keep textures high until VRAM pressure, texture pop-in, or hitching appears.
- Turn off motion blur and camera shake if clarity is more important than the cinematic effect.
- Test VSync with your chosen cap. On enables tear-free presentation; off can reduce latency but may expose tearing.
Change one setting at a time. Record average FPS, frame-time consistency, and visible hitching in the same repeatable scene instead of judging a setting from a different location.

Resolution and DLSS: the biggest GPU decisions
Start at 1080p
1080p is the practical baseline for troubleshooting because it gives the GPU fewer pixels to render while retaining a familiar image. If your graphics card is at or near full utilization and frame times improve when you lower resolution, the GPU is the limiting component. Keep lowering resolution or use the game’s available upscaling before making every other option low.
Recommended Free Tools
If reducing resolution produces little change, the limitation may be the CPU, memory, storage, or an individual game workload rather than raw pixel shading. In that case, view distance and a realistic FPS cap are more useful than continuing to lower image quality.
When to use DLSS 2
NVIDIA states that players with supported RTX hardware can activate DLSS 2 in Palworld to accelerate performance. DLSS is hardware-dependent: the option will not be available on every graphics card, and the gain depends on resolution, scene complexity, and the selected quality mode. Treat it as an additional rendering path, not a guaranteed percentage improvement.

- Open the game’s graphics or display settings.
- Set the output resolution you actually want to use, beginning with 1080p.
- Enable DLSS 2 if your RTX card exposes the setting.
- Choose the least aggressive quality mode that delivers the frame-time stability you need.
- Check foliage, distant structures, and moving creatures for shimmering or reconstruction artifacts.
If DLSS makes the image too soft, raise its quality mode before lowering more detail settings. If it does not change performance, confirm that the game is using the intended GPU and that the GPU, rather than the CPU, is limiting the scene.
Which individual settings should you lower first?
View distance
View distance determines how far the game maintains or draws world details. It is the first setting to test when the CPU is limiting performance, especially around a large base, a settlement, or a scene containing many creatures and structures. Lowering it can reduce distant detail and make objects appear later, but it usually preserves the clarity of nearby objects better than dropping resolution.

Shadows
Shadows can consume substantial GPU time. Reduce them after resolution or upscaling when your graphics card is the bottleneck. A lower shadow setting generally changes softness, distance, and contact detail rather than removing the entire lighting system.
Effects
Effects matter most in scenes with attacks, fire, weather, explosions, and multiple active Pals. Lowering effects can improve the worst moments of a fight even when your average FPS looks acceptable. Judge this setting by the lowest-feeling moments and frame-time spikes, not only by a quiet field.

Post processing
Post processing covers screen-space and image-treatment work performed after the main scene is rendered. Reduce it after shadows and effects if you still need GPU headroom. You may notice changes in glow, depth treatment, or other finishing effects before you notice a loss of world geometry.
Anti-aliasing
Anti-aliasing smooths jagged edges. Lowering it can help when the GPU is constrained, but foliage, fences, cables, and distant silhouettes may shimmer more. Keep it at a moderate level when possible, and use DLSS quality modes to balance reconstruction and edge stability on supported RTX cards.
Textures
Textures usually affect VRAM capacity more than they affect the number of pixels your GPU shades each frame. Keep them high while you have VRAM headroom. Lower textures when you see texture pop-in, surfaces appearing late, hitching that coincides with area changes, or other signs that the graphics card is paging assets. Reducing textures will not fix a CPU-limited scene.
Motion blur and camera shake
These options do not represent the main performance path to test, but disabling them can make movement and combat easier to read. Motion blur can hide judder while turning, whereas camera shake can make a low or unstable frame rate feel worse. Turn both off when visual clarity and consistent aiming are priorities.

VSync and the FPS cap
VSync synchronizes presented frames with the display to prevent tearing, but it can add waiting at the presentation boundary. With VSync off, input can feel more immediate, but horizontal tearing may appear. Test both modes with a cap your PC can actually maintain. A cap that is slightly below the level your system reaches inconsistently is usually more useful than an uncapped number that swings widely.
Match the fix to the bottleneck
| What you observe | Likely limit | Settings to test first | What not to expect |
|---|---|---|---|
| GPU utilization stays high; lowering resolution helps | GPU or pixel workload | Resolution, DLSS when supported, shadows, effects, post processing, anti-aliasing | Lowering textures alone to create a large FPS increase |
| Performance drops near large bases or crowded scenes; resolution changes little | CPU or simulation workload | View distance and a stable FPS cap | A major improvement from reducing anti-aliasing |
| Textures arrive late, surfaces flicker in after travel, or hitching follows asset loading | VRAM capacity or asset streaming | Textures first, then resolution if necessary | Solving the issue by lowering view distance alone |
| Stutter continues across settings changes and area transitions | RAM, storage, shader or asset streaming, or a broader system issue | Verify the 16 GB RAM and SSD baseline; check for background load and retest in a repeatable scene | Assuming a graphics preset can overcome missing memory or a slow storage setup |
Hardware baseline before tuning
Pocketpair’s current Steam support listing specifies 16 GB of RAM minimum and requires an SSD. It also lists a recommended GeForce RTX 3060 Ti or Radeon RX 6700 XT class GPU. These figures establish a baseline for configuration decisions; they do not promise a particular frame rate, frame-time consistency, or resolution.
RAM
Systems below 16 GB may stutter as the game, operating system, and background applications compete for memory. If you are near the minimum, close unnecessary applications and confirm that the upgrade you consider matches your motherboard’s DDR generation, form factor, supported capacity, and installed configuration. Do not assume that any desktop or laptop memory module will be compatible.
SSD
An SSD is part of the listed requirement. If the game is installed on a slower storage device, changing shadows or anti-aliasing cannot remove every streaming hitch. Move the installation to a supported SSD and leave adequate free space for the operating system and game updates.

GPU and VRAM
The recommended RTX 3060 Ti or RX 6700 XT class indicates the level of graphics hardware used for the recommended configuration, not a universal performance target. Your available VRAM, resolution, driver state, and scene complexity still determine whether high textures are appropriate. If VRAM is the constraint, lower textures before sacrificing every other setting.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteA repeatable testing method
- Choose one test scene. Use a busy base, a populated area, or a repeatable route that normally exposes the problem.
- Restart the game after major changes when the menu or the scene does not appear to update immediately.
- Record a baseline. Note resolution, upscaling, cap, VSync, every quality setting, average FPS, frame-time consistency, and visible hitching.
- Change one setting. Start with resolution or DLSS for a GPU limit, or view distance for a CPU-heavy scene.
- Repeat the same route. Compare the same action and camera movement rather than a different area.
- Keep the change only if it helps. A higher average with worse hitching is not an improvement for playability.
- Recheck after an update. Patches can alter defaults, draw distance, and presentation behavior.
Do not use a single quiet outdoor view as proof that a setting solved stutter. Busy scenes are where CPU simulation, asset streaming, and effects expose weaknesses.
Fix Palworld stuttering on PC
Stutter appears everywhere
- Confirm the game is installed on an SSD.
- Check whether the system meets the 16 GB RAM minimum and close memory-heavy background applications.
- Set a conservative FPS cap instead of allowing large frame-rate swings.
- Test at 1080p and compare GPU utilization before changing every quality option.
- Retest after restarting the game and using the same scene.
Stutter appears near bases or crowds
- Lower view distance first.
- Use a cap your CPU can sustain in the busiest part of the scene.
- Reduce effects if combat or multiple active abilities cause spikes.
- Keep textures unchanged unless you also see VRAM-related symptoms.
Stutter appears while entering new areas
- Check the SSD requirement and available system memory.
- Lower textures if asset loading coincides with VRAM pressure or texture pop-in.
- Compare a repeatable route after each change; do not judge streaming from one pass only.
Performance worsened after a patch
Open the graphics menu and verify every option rather than assuming the previous configuration survived unchanged. Palworld’s Steam announcements document a PC default FPS-cap change to 120 and changes to graphics presentation and draw distance in v1.0-era updates. Patch behavior can therefore alter both the apparent defaults and the workload. Recheck the cap, resolution, upscaling, view distance, and synchronization mode, then retest in a busy scene.
What to preserve when you lower settings
Lower the setting tied to the bottleneck, not every option at once. GPU-limited players generally gain more from resolution or DLSS, shadows, effects, post processing, and anti-aliasing. CPU-limited players should prioritize view distance and frame-rate stability. VRAM-limited players should reduce textures and, if necessary, resolution. RAM- or storage-limited systems need to meet the baseline before a graphics menu can be expected to cure hitching.
A practical compromise is to keep textures high, use medium view distance, reduce shadows and effects, and disable motion blur and camera shake. This preserves nearby surface detail while spending less time on distant geometry and expensive lighting. If the image is still too soft, restore anti-aliasing before raising every other option; if frame times remain unstable, restore visual quality only after lowering the cap or addressing the underlying bottleneck.
How to choose a stable FPS cap
Start with the highest cap that remains steady in your chosen busy scene, not the highest number shown in a quiet area. The current PC default cap documented in v1.0-era Steam announcements is 120, but that value is a ceiling or default behavior, not a promise that your hardware will sustain 120 FPS.
Quick Recap
- Use the same scene and camera route for each test.
- Begin with a conservative cap.
- Raise it in small steps while watching frame-time consistency and hitching.
- Stop when the busiest section becomes unstable, then return to the last cap that held.
- Test VSync at that cap and keep the combination that best matches your priorities for tearing and input response.
Common mistakes
- Dropping textures first: this can make the image worse without helping a CPU-limited scene.
- Changing ten options together: you lose the ability to identify the useful adjustment.
- Chasing an uncapped peak: a high number in an empty field says little about a crowded base.
- Assuming DLSS works everywhere: DLSS 2 requires supported RTX hardware.
- Ignoring memory and storage: settings tweaks cannot replace the 16 GB RAM and SSD baseline.
- Keeping old settings after updates: patches can change caps, draw distance, and presentation.
Quick checklist
- Use 1080p as the initial troubleshooting resolution.
- Choose a cap your busiest scene can hold.
- Use DLSS 2 only when a supported RTX option is available.
- Lower view distance for CPU-heavy scenes.
- Lower shadows, effects, post processing, and anti-aliasing for GPU headroom.
- Preserve textures until VRAM symptoms appear.
- Disable motion blur and camera shake for a clearer view.
- Verify 16 GB RAM minimum and SSD installation before expecting stutter fixes from graphics settings.
- Change one option at a time and record frame-time behavior.
- Recheck the menu after every major update.
