Lune handles elemental setup and can provide recovery, Verso adds consistent damage and support, and Maelle turns setup into a Burn-to-Virtuose damage payoff. For a more specialized endgame Burn team, consider Verso, Sciel, and Maelle; for a flexible support lineup, try Lune, Maelle, and Monoco.
These are guide recommendations, not an official ranking. The best version for your save depends on weapon scaling, available skills and Pictos, and how reliably you handle the game’s real-time dodges and parries.

Which party should you build?
Start with the lineup that matches your experience and current gear. The roster-wide build guide from GamerHeadlines, updated September 1, 2026, recommends these three party templates:
| Use case | Party | What the lineup offers |
|---|---|---|
| General progression | Lune, Verso, Maelle | Elemental setup and recovery, consistent damage and support, then a Burn-to-Virtuose payoff. |
| Specialized endgame Burn damage | Verso, Sciel, Maelle | A higher-ceiling Burn composition that expects more gear and setup. |
| Flexible support | Lune, Maelle, Monoco | Maelle’s payoff alongside Lune’s and Monoco’s support options. |
The official Bandai Namco product page describes building characters around gear, stats, skills, and synergies to suit your playstyle; it does not publish a best-party ranking. The game has six characters to level, so treat these as active-party templates rather than a reason to neglect the rest of the roster.

How to build the recommended progression party
Lune: create elemental setup and keep recovery available
The guide’s Lune build, called Elemental Mayhem, uses Trebuchim. Generate Stains with Free Aim, then spend them on Mayhem or Elemental Genesis. The guide lists Vitality, Luck, and Agility as priorities and describes the setup as viable from early through late progression. If you want a recovery option while learning encounters, Rebirth is a beginner-friendly flex skill.
Think of Lune as the party member who helps establish the conditions the others can exploit. Keep the recovery option only when it is useful to your group; otherwise, use the slot for the encounter’s setup needs.
Verso: provide consistent damage and support
For a general-use, beginner-friendly Verso, the guide recommends Lanceram and a Rank C consistency approach. Use the Rank floor to recover quickly and keep enhanced skills available. Its listed attribute priorities are Luck, Agility, and Vitality before Might.
Rank #2
- Reactive Turn-based Combat - In this evolution of JRPGs, real-time actions enhance the heart of turn-based combat. Build your party and level up six characters. Craft unique builds for your expeditioners that fit your playstyle via gear, stats, skills, and character synergies. Open an active dimension in combat - dodge, parry, and counter in real time, chain combos by mastering attack rhythms, and target enemy weak points using a free-aim system.
- “Tomorrow Comes” - With only one year left to live, join Gustave, Maelle, and their fellow Expeditioners as they embark upon a desperate quest to break the Paintress’ cycle of death. Follow the trail of previous expeditions and discover their fate. Get to know the members of Expedition 33 as they learn to work together against impossible odds.
- A Hauntingly Beautiful World - Explore an enchanting realm populated by surreal adversaries. Wander through breathtaking landscapes, from the Island of Visages to the Forgotten Battlefield, discovering secrets and hidden quests along the way. Find allies of fortune in creatures of legend and recruit a special companion who can access new travel methods and secret areas in the World Map.
- Experience the debut game from Sandfall Interactive, fully realized in Unreal Engine 5 with stunning graphics and a heartbreaking soundtrack.
- European/ UK version
This is a consistency choice rather than a claim that Rank C has the highest possible damage ceiling. It suits a progression party that benefits from a dependable loop while the player is still learning enemy timings.
Maelle: apply Burn, enter Virtuose, and cash in
Maelle’s core loop is to apply Burn, enter Virtuose, then use a heavy attack to capitalize on the damage window. Medalum is the guide’s early weapon recommendation; Esquium is its late-game option. Follow the scaling of the weapon you are using. For Esquium, the guide prioritizes Agility, then Defense, then Might.
Maelle is the payoff character in this trio: the other two should help her reach the part of the loop that converts setup into damage. The exact supporting skills can change with the encounter and what you have unlocked.
Rank #3
- Engaging Storyline: Dive into a rich, narrative-driven adventure with unexpected twists.
- Complex Puzzles: Test your problem-solving skills with challenging puzzles.
- Immersive World: Explore a visually stunning alien planet with breathtaking details and treacherous terrain.
When to switch to another party
Verso, Sciel, and Maelle for a specialized Burn setup
Choose this lineup when you have the gear and setup to support a more specialized endgame damage plan. The same September 2026 guide’s Sciel build is called Permanent Twilight and uses Charnon: apply Foretell, enter Twilight, and extend it with Twilight Dance. It lists Defense and Luck ahead of Might or Agility and positions the build for late game.
Recommended Free Tools
This is not the safer default for a new save. The recommendation assumes that you can bring the needed setup together and manage the more demanding damage loop.
Lune, Maelle, and Monoco for flexible support
Keep Lune and Maelle’s elemental setup and payoff, then use Monoco to fill whichever support gaps your encounter exposes. The guide’s Ballaro support skill shortlist includes Troubadour Trumpet, Clair Enfeeble, Abbest Wind, Contorsionniste Blast, and Jar Lampstorm; Potier Energy and Boucheclier Fortify are additional options.
Rank #4
- This is KOEAN VERSION released in South Korea. Region Free title so you can play it on your system.
- Language: Korean, English, Japanese, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish
Monoco’s skill choice is tied to his Bestial Wheel: check the next mask before selecting a skill. This lineup is useful when buffs, healing, weakness coverage, or AP support matter more than committing another character to a narrow damage plan.

Build around a loop, not a copied attribute total. The September 1, 2026 GamerHeadlines guide says its recommendations were checked against official patch notes through v1.5.6 on August 31, 2026. It also notes that attribute totals vary with level, weapon, upgrade state, and available points. Treat the priorities below as direction, not a fixed allocation for every save.

- Choose the weapon first. Prioritize the scaling of the weapon you actually equip instead of copying another player’s Might, Agility, or Luck totals.
- Select the core skills. Equip the skills that establish your opening setup and deliver the payoff. Keep flexible slots for recovery, support, or encounter-specific needs.
- Check the opening AP. Make sure the party can execute its intended first loop without relying on a lucky kill to generate the resources it needs.
- Add a defensive fallback when needed. If missed dodges or parries regularly end attempts, favor survival or recovery instead of maximizing damage at any cost.
- Coordinate the other characters. Have them provide the setup, status, Mark, buff, healing, or Break that the main damage character needs.
- Adjust for the fight. Keep a boss-focused version and a group-fight version if the best skills or defenses differ.
Gustave’s guide build offers a useful example of a setup-and-spend loop: with Lanceram, build Charges using multi-hit skills, apply Mark, then spend a full Overcharge. The guide recommends following weapon scaling, then prioritizing Luck and Might. You do not need to use Gustave in the recommended party; the example illustrates how a character’s skills and party support can be organized around a clear payoff.

Combat includes real-time dodges, parries, counters, attack rhythms, and free-aim weak-point targeting. Xbox Wire’s April 23, 2025 beginner guide says a free-aim shot costs one AP in battle without ending the turn, allowing you to soften a target before spending AP on a skill. A build should help you use these systems comfortably, not require perfect reactions to function.
How Pictos and Luminas fit into the build
Pictos give an equipped character a passive effect. Xbox Wire explains that after four wins with a Picto equipped, it is mastered; its passive can then be used as a Lumina by party members who have enough Lumina points. A July 19, 2026 Playnews late-game guide describes three equipped Picto slots per character, with mastered passives shared through Lumina capacity.
- Equip useful new Pictos as you find them. Cycling them through characters lets you work toward mastery rather than leaving every new passive unused.
- After mastery, consider the Lumina version. Spend capacity on passives that support the character’s job and the party’s opening loop.
- Prioritize what the build needs. Secure enough AP to perform the planned opening; add a defensive passive if missed reactions often cost you attempts.
- Do not force identical loadouts. A damage character, a setup character, and a support character can benefit from different passives.
Use Pictos both as immediate equipment and as a way to expand the party’s Lumina options. The recommendations here are role-based rather than a universal named Picto list: prioritize effects that help your chosen loop, AP needs, and survivability.
What can change the recommendation?
Balance changes can affect the value of a build. The guide’s stated patch-check basis ends at v1.5.6, which it identifies as the newest numbered announcement it found on August 31, 2026; it mentions fixes touching Burn after Stun and several weapon or buff interactions. That does not establish whether later updates changed these builds, so check the game’s official patch notes if you are playing after that date.
The same guide cautions that Painted Power may be situational for characters that frequently hit the 9,999 damage cap; AP generation or survival may be more useful for support characters. Choose passives for the job your character actually performs rather than assuming a damage-boosting effect is always the best pick.
